Seven Sins System Chapter 383. Stuck
The atmosphere at the table was undeniably strange, like stepping into a parallel universe where demons and goddesses could sit down for a meal together without trying to kill each other. It was weird, to say the least, and more than a bit awkward. Who would've thought we'd ever end up sharing a peaceful moment like this?
I could feel Puriel's eyes on me, her gaze flicking over every now and then like she was trying to read my mind or something. It was like she had something to say, but every time she opened her mouth, the words got stuck in her throat.
And yeah, I admit it, I found myself sneaking glances at her too. Maybe it was curiosity, wondering what was going on in that head of hers, or maybe it was just frustration, wanting to shake her and say, "Quit with that sad face. You're killing my appetite here!"
Speaking of appetite, mine seemed to have taken a nosedive since she put her gloomy face. I mean, I had been planning on ordering some fried fries or something after I polished off these sandwiches, but suddenly, the thought of food just didn't seem all that appealing anymore.
'Right, I should stop overthinking,' I reminded myself, mentally cursing myself for getting all worked up.
We finished our dinner in silence. It was strange, but somehow, it felt right—like two puzzle pieces finally clicking into place after years of searching.
With our plates cleared and our stomachs filled, I turned to Puriel. "Hey, do you want anything else?" I asked, gesturing towards the diner's menu. But she shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips as she declined my offer.
After a brief discussion, we decided to head back to the academy for the night. The prospect of sleeping in a proper bed, rather than on the hard floor of our cell, was too enticing to pass up. But as we made our way back, our thoughts inevitably turned back to our mission.
So, with a shared nod of understanding, we abandoned our plans for a comfortable night's sleep and refocused our efforts on the task at hand. It was clear that our mission took precedence over our personal comfort—a fact that neither of us could ignore.I summoned another clone of myself, this time as Dr. Allen, and tasked him with carrying out my daily duties at the academy. Puriel did the same, creating a duplicate of herself to maintain appearances while we were away.
Once back in our dreary cell, we set about enacting our plan. I retreated my tentacles back into my body. Then, using my Devil's Craft skill, I fastened the chain back around my wrists, securing myself once more.
I settled down onto the hard floor. With a weary sigh, I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep. I couldn't shake the unease that settled over me. Sleeping in the same room as Puriel felt strange, like treading on unfamiliar territory after a lifetime of walking the same path.
But as I tossed and turned, unable to find a comfortable position on the hard floor, my mind wandered to a question that had been nagging at me ever since our encounter: What if I fell in love with her?
The thought sent a shiver down my spine. It was a ridiculous notion. A devil like me, falling in love with a goddess like her?
But still, the question lingered, stubbornly refusing to be ignored. What would happen if I found myself succumbing to the same feelings she had confessed to me? Would it tear our worlds apart, plunging us into chaos and destruction? Or would it be the catalyst for something greater, something beyond the boundaries of our wildest imaginations?
I shook my head, trying to clear away the intrusive thoughts. 'Nah, it's just a crazy idea,' I muttered to myself. After all, love was just a fairy tale for a devil. But deep down, a small voice whispered, daring me to entertain the possibility.
The morning crept into our cell, there was no sign of sunlight to brighten the gloomy surroundings. Instead, the only indication of the new day came from the subtle shift in the atmosphere, a faint stirring in the air that hinted at the passage of time.
I sighed heavily and glanced around the cell, the same walls and the same chains. My tentacle-shaped flea had been keeping watch, silently gathering information that could prove invaluable to our mission.
Sadly, I learned the truth: our ordeal was far from over. Despite my hopes that today would bring an end to our captivity, it seemed that fate had other plans in store for us. The leader's assistant had called, announcing a delay in our scheduled pickup due to some unforeseen problem.
I cursed under my breath. How could they keep us waiting like this?
So yeah, it looked like Puriel and I would stick in this place for a while longer. Well, I hadn't had a problem with that since I had my clone. It was just my mind couldn't help but wander to the upcoming invitation from the twin vampires. I wasn't about to miss out on the festivities. After all, who wouldn't be curious about the menu they had planned? Sure, I was used to dining on the finer things in life back at the palace, but I wasn't about to turn down an opportunity for a good meal.
Not to mention, the quality of our meals in this cell left much to be desired. Seriously? Lame bread and a cup of water? That was hardly fit for a devil of my stature. Did they think we were on a strict diet? It was like they were trying to starve us out or something.
