Suho was already well aware of Liu Zhigang.
The one and only six-star hunter in China. He was seven-star in his past life, I believe. What a coincidence. He had been searching for Siddharth Bachchan, only to run into another ex-National Level Hunter by pure chance.
It seemed Liu’s body already held a follower of Itarim. Suho observed the blue mana streaming from the man’s body and nodded. So the theory that the Itarim approached all past National Level Hunters was right.
It was surprising to see Liu here, but it was convenient, as it meant less delay.
“Young Monarch! Give Liu the Echo Forest Spring Water!” Beru said.
Suho immediately pulled the potion from his inventory, but he could see it wouldn’t be easy. The man was sending attacks in every direction nonstop. How could he get close enough to give it to him? Spraying it at him, like he did with Thomas Andre, probably wouldn’t work.
The best method was definitely conversation, but there was a problem—the language barrier. Suho didn’t know any Chinese, so speaking with Liu Zhigang was impossible from the start. None of his shadow soldiers were capable of speaking Chinese either.
Suho began, “Looks like the only way is to—”
“Don’t fret!” Beru cried. “I shall catch a passing Chinese person and devour their brain for knowledge of—!”
“Enough,” Suho said, urgently stopping the shadow ant from continuing his threat. In their current location, it would be faster to find an Indian person fluent in Chinese than to hunt down—and eat—a Chinese person. As it happened, however, the ideal candidate for the job was running up to them.
“Suho! I’m here! Whoa! L-Liu Zhigang?”
“What is that man doing here?”
Rio and Jackson, who had arrived with Gordon, widened their eyes at the sight of Liu.
Suho shouted to Rio, “Hey! You can interpret Chinese, right?”
“Of course! I’m an elite member of the Asura Guild! I speak no fewer than ten languages!”
“Excellent! I understand, Young Monarch! I’ll just feed on his brain instead, and all will be settled— Oof!”
With a foot, Suho pushed down on Beru, who had been smacking his mandibles as he prepared to fly over to Rio. He continued, “I need you to interpret my words for Liu Zhigang!”
“Got it!” Rio nodded confidently to Liu, who was currently locked in a fight with Greed. In Chinese, he said, “Liu! We are not your enemies—”
But the chaos was too intense for words to resolve anything. Liu’s sword energy sliced through the air, grazing Greed’s body and splitting the forest behind him in half.
“No!” Greed shouted. Liu Zhigang had suddenly turned his attention toward Suho and launched himself in the young hunter’s direction. Greed clenched his teeth and chased after him. “How dare you! Planning to attack the Young Monarch over me?”
Liu abruptly flipped in midair, finding an opening in Greed’s defenses and aiming an attack. The shadow soldier barely managed to block it. Their eyes glinted violently as their energies collided.
A faint smile appeared on Liu’s lips as he stared at Greed. “I see. So you’re all in this together.”
Liu’s fighting style was completely unstructured. Two years of hardship had molded him to be that way. His style was incredibly freeform, blurring the line between feints and lethal strikes. This was the path of martial training Liu had attained in this life, and the very reason that a former National Level Hunter had been given nicknames like “Berserker,” “Butcher,” and “the Ghostly Sword.”
“Ah! So this is Liu Zhigang in this life!” Greed said, grinning widely. He vividly remembered this man’s past-life reputation. It was disappointing that Liu was no longer a National Level Hunter, but Greed himself had weakened considerably compared to the time he had been Sung Jinwoo’s soldier. “I’ll take you seriously now,” he declared.
In an instant, the beautiful landscape was obliterated as a cataclysmic wave of destruction spread in all directions.
“My god, how can this be…?”
“Is this Liu’s power?”
Rio and Jackson were speechless in front of the overwhelming devastation. At the same time, there was a question on their minds: How was Greed able to fight as Liu’s equal?
It’s impossible. He’s on the same level as Liu?
Suho isn’t even fighting personally. How can a simple summon wield such power?
Rio, in particular, was familiar with the number of summons Suho usually commanded. He could barely process his shock. What if all those summons were gathered here instead of being scattered by Suho’s orders? Would Liu even have a chance?
Rio gave up even trying to imagine it. There was no time to marvel— getting caught in this clash would mean almost certain death.
“Jackson! We need to pull back! We can’t communicate right now!” Rio shouted.
He and Jackson retreated, abandoning the idea of interpreting.
However, they weren’t the only ones who were scrambling to avoid the chaotic shockwaves of the battle. The dragonkin who had encountered Liu before Greed arrived were also suffering from the onslaught, even though they were no longer the targets.
Suho narrowed his eyes when he saw the names above their heads.
[Mutant No. 8]
[Mutant No. 8]
Mutants?
Suho decided to let Greed handle Liu for now. He focused on these dragonkin, whom he’d never seen before. They were supposed to be half dragon, half human, but the distinction was not perfectly clear. Their appearance leaned more toward human than the typical lizard men.
Suho noticed with shock that they also had Star Fragments embedded in their bodies. The Fragments continuously emitted streams of blue mana, just like the ones in the members of the Church of the Outer Gods at the black market site.
“Don’t tell me they planted Star Fragments in the magic beasts, too?” Suho had seen all sorts of bizarre sights since arriving in this country. Non-awakened citizens wearing Stardust necklaces and surviving in a field-type dungeon was one thing, but now even beasts were roaming around with Star Fragments in their bodies.
“Antares! Do you know anything about those mutants?” Suho asked.
Ragna chirped, but his expression suddenly grew serious. A look of displeasure appeared on his cute face. “A disgrace to the dragon people. What halfwits!”
“Halfwits?”
Antares’ gaze toward the mutants was filled with unmistakable disdain and contempt. “Those creatures were not born by the usual means. It seems someone found some half-grown dragon eggs.”
“Half-grown eggs?”
“Young Monarch, could he mean…”
Suho and Beru looked at each other, both thinking the same thing.
“Could they be the ones my mother found…?”
“The empty eggs, Young Monarch.”
Cha Haein and Sirka had found countless dragon eggs in the Grave of the Dragons. With the exception of the tiny egg from which Ragna had been born, all the others had disintegrated the moment they were touched.
“These were born from those eggs?” Suho asked.
“I wouldn’t say ‘born,’” Antares responded. “The energy of the dragons inside the eggs was extracted and likely injected into creatures of another race. A forced evolution, if you will.”
He looked deeply upset. Even though he claimed to care only about destruction and ruin, it was a matter of pride for him that his own kind were being treated as experimental subjects.
“How dare they!” Antares’ gaze turned as sharp as a blade as he glared at the mutants.
Suho nodded, his gaze turning to the cataclysmic destruction around them. His eyes gleamed. “Okay. Let’s handle this mess and figure out what’s really going on. Harmakan?”
“Yes, Young Monarch.” Harmakan, the shadow demonic spirit, rose from the ground at Suho’s call.
“Capture all the mutants. Check their condition.”
“I’ll examine them thoroughly.” Harmakan immediately swooped toward the creatures.
Suho then shouted, “Sillad!”
[Sillad is watching you.]
He felt the Monarch’s gaze and declared with confidence, “Blistering Blizzard.”
In that instant, a true natural disaster began to unfold across the entire battlefield.
[Skill: “Blistering Blizzard” has been activated.]
[Required Mana: 100 per second.]
The bitter blizzard that had once reduced Facade to a frozen city now swept over India. The mutants that had scattered shrieked as they froze. Even Liu could not escape the blizzard’s effects, which blanketed the land.
[“Debuff: Curse of Extreme Cold” has been activated.]
[Attack speed decreases by 30%.]
[Movement speed decreases by 30%.]
“He’s much more evil than I thought… Using an area-of-effect skill without regard for his own men?” Liu murmured, scowling. He currently believed that even the mutants were in league with Suho.
Quickly, he came to a decision. I will target the source! His form shot through the blizzard, heading straight for Suho.
In an instant, the two Vulcan’s Horns that Suho was holding clashed against Liu’s sword.
“Young Monarch!”
“Greed, no!”
Suho shouted to stop the shadow soldier, who had approached to help. His gaze deepened as he looked into Liu’s eyes. A follower of Itarim…
Perhaps it was because of the blizzard, but Suho recalled the moment when his mother, Haein, had cut down a follower with a single swing. Her power had been breathtaking, awe-inspiring.
What if it were me now? His heart raced. He was eager to find out. With his level now higher than back then, he had to know just how much closer he had gotten to his mother’s strength.
I’mgoing all in. Suho’s strength finally clashed with Liu’s, and the impact caused the storm around them to surge, shaking the earth.
Antares silently watched Suho with a cold gaze, never looking away. Soon, a ghost of a smile appeared on his lips. “Not bad for a kid.”
Eventually, the wind died down.
