The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1576 - 1576: Succeeding the Right Move

Music hummed through the air.

Melodious. Fulfilling.

A sudden emptiness filled the room when the music stopped, changing to another song.

Rex opened his eyes.

His crimson eyes glowed amid the dim room, and he was greeted by an unfamiliar ceiling.

Though he wanted to move, his body was heavy.

It seemed the pain still lingered, not because his regeneration was not sufficient to heal the wounds, but because of the gradual penalty. On top of bearing the weight of the emerald star, he also needed to endure the internal pain.

One of the main reasons why he was completely crushed and pitiful.

Rex forced himself to sit up, groaning in pain as he supported his body with his arms, and leaned back against the headboard. It was only then he realized that he was on a soft and massive bed. Even if there are two of him stacked vertically and horizontally, the bed would still have room for more.

“System, how long did I pass out?”

<Nine hours.>

Seeing this, Rex sighed in relief.

It was good that he wasn’t out for too long.

Outside the window, the shaded moon could be seen.

But Rex wasn’t exposed to the moonlight; he was too far from the window—the room was that big.

“I don’t know where I am, but I assumed I was picked.”

Rex didn’t recall anything after making the ninth step, but he reckoned that he heard Princess Davina’s voice, and also the weight of her soft hand against his. Surely, he won over the Crown Prince. It wasn’t surprising to him.

Just the sourness of Princess Davina’s face, repulsed, she clearly doesn’t like the Crown Prince.

So, she’d pick any other option as long as it’s not the Crown Prince.

And her only option was Rex.

<The Blood Moon is nearing!>

<Please choose the pack members who would be induced with the gradual penalty!>

Rex gritted his teeth when he saw this.

He was in so much pain already, and though his mind was steadfast, his body wouldn’t.

At this point, he has already chosen himself two times.

If he chose himself again right now, it’ll be the third time, and he didn’t know how he’d operate.

“I need to think about myself. If I’m impaired, then we’re all doomed.”

Though he wasn’t going to burden the others with this problem, reality slapped him hard; there was no other choice but to share the pain. But even then, he was still reluctant and unwilling, “System, can I split this one with another pack member?”

<Yes. Please determine the ratio for the splitting.>

“Fifty-fifty. Give half to me and half to Flunra.>

<Affirmative. Distributing the gradual pain….>

<Completed!>

Almost instantly after the last notification, Rex felt his nerves throbbing, causing his body to burn.

His nerves were spasming, paralyzing him from head to toe.

Veins all across his body bulged painfully, like someone had filled them with water until they were near their bursting point. Rex endured the increasing pain like a madman, head against the wall, and both of his hands gripped the bedsheet until it ripped.

Rex gritted his teeth hard, suffering in silence until even the blood vessels in his eyes snapped.

Gradually, the white part of his eyes turned red, merging with the blood-red color of his iris.

Almost instinctively, his body began convulsing involuntarily.

It was forcing him to transform into his Werewolf form, but he couldn’t.

Not when Princess Davina is somewhere nearby.

Fighting back the pain, Rex rolled over and fell to the floor.

He used the desk as a support to stand, and slowly made his way to the window.

As soon as he was touched by the moonlight, he instantly felt better.

But it wasn’t enough.

“More… I need to be exposed more.” He panted and headed for the door.

Upon opening the door, he found that there was nobody around.

It was quiet, probably because it was already late at night.

Still, Rex spotted the backyard ahead, an open space filled with magical plants and, more importantly, no roof to block the moonlight—what’s left of it—from touching his skin directly. Gritting his teeth, he pushed forward, staggering along the wall and stumbling over carpets and furniture as he made his way toward it.

He exhaustedly pushed the sliding door open, took a few steps, and collapsed to the grass.

Almost instantly, the pain lessened substantially.

It went from excruciatingly painful to painful, which was enough for someone like Rex.

For a brief moment there, he only breathed.

Allowing his body to get used to the new height of pain from the gradual penalty.

An unknown amount of time passed.

“Lord Rex…?’

Rex heard a voice calling to him, and when he lifted his head to look, he was relieved to find Rosa.

Now, Rex was sitting on the wooden chair with Rosa beside him.

Both of them gazed at the dark sky, savoring the quiet the night offered them.

“So, how is it? I’m sure you’ve talked with them.”

“Yes—you will marry Princess Davina as you wanted, but it will be held privately.”

“Good.”

Rosa turned to Rex, mildly surprised at his nonchalance.

“Good?” She raised a brow. “I may be emotional and biased right now, because I’m on your side, but with what you showed earlier—the marriage should at least be done publicly. You earned the princess’ hand with blood. Keeping things private meant they were still ashamed to introduce you. It’s a disrespect that you shouldn’t tolerate. I’m sure this is the princess’ idea.”

“No need to fret about that. I’m a nobody here,” Rex clasped his hands on his stomach and closed his eyes, not bothered at all. “It’s natural for her to do this. I’m only a Master Immortal Spirit, a weakling. Besides, I’m not doing all of that for her.”

“Sigh…” Rosa leaned back. “I just wish they’d appreciate you a little after all that trouble.”

“Never mind that, I have things to do.”

“The Sky City?”

“Yes.”

It was the sole reason Rex was here right now—to gain access to the Sky City.

His gradual penalty was getting worse, so he’s running out of time.

“Do you want me to help?”

“Help? What kind of help?”

“You need to get close to Duke Lorcan, right? If you can’t smile and socialize more, you won’t be able to get close to him quickly as you wanted, even if he approves of you.”

“You don’t need to do that…”

Rex shook his head—there’s no need for Rosa to go to such lengths to help him.

It wasn’t her problem in the first place.

“I’m pretty sure our deal ends with you bringing me here. You don’t have to do it.”

An acute smile crossed Rosa’s face when she heard that.

Just from how Rex acted alone, she already knew what kind of man he was.

A man who thought all relationships must be transactional and fair, black or white, which made him quite an annoying ally, but a fearsome emperor. She wasn’t going to let him be. But to do that, she will have to play by his rules first.

“Fine, let’s make another deal.”

Exactly as predicted, Rex’s eyes flashed when he heard this.

Clearly, he was eager to make another deal, as long as he could get what he wanted.

“Before you can marry, you’d be bestowed a royal status first. And when you marry the princess, you’ll have influence in her territory and beyond. I want you to persuade the princess to siphon more resources for my territory.”

Rosa raised a finger and explained.

It was plausible with Rex’s influence, even without Princess Davina’s help.

Of course, it wasn’t that she needed the extra resources badly.

Just so that Rex would accept her help.

“In exchange, I’ll help you with getting closer to Duke Lorcan. How about it?”

“Deal.”

Rex didn’t even need to think for long—this was already a good deal from the start.

He didn’t need extra resources.

At least, not the kind of resources Rosa was talking about.

In order to complete his Original Echo, he needed blood and a corpse, something that could only be earned with his own two hands. “Just tell me what to do, and when the time comes, I’ll do what you asked. I won’t hesitate even if I need to beg the princess to do it.”

Rosa stood up and extended her hand.

Seeing this, Rex smiled to himself and rose to his feet—unsteadily, but determined.

Once he was upright, he reached out to shake Rosa’s hand.

“I’ll head back to my room, then. We’ll talk about the details tomorrow.”

“Right. Thank yo— Oh, wait… You mentioned I’d be given a royal status, didn’t you?”

“Probably the lowest kind. A knighthood, just for formality’s sake, so you can marry the princess.”

“A knight, huh… Who’d be the one to grant it?’

Rosa rubbed her chin, thinking.

“Not sure. But since it involves the Duke’s daughter, I’d guess either the Empress or the Saintess of Purity.”

“Kei Xun…?”

“Yeah.”

Knowing the change in the air around him, Rosa patted his shoulder.

“Get some sleep, you’re still hurt.” She then glanced at the backyard, staring at the spot where the grass was shaded deep crimson. “Also, make sure you ask the servants to clean that up. It would only make you look bad if you didn’t.”

As soon as she said that, Rosa walked past him, exiting through the main entrance.

Instead of going back to bed, Rex slumped back down into the chair.

“Since Viora is agitated, I’m sure Kei Xun would not show her face. She’s in trouble—so the Empress would be the one to grant the title to me—perfect…” Rex leaned back easily. Everything seemed to be going smoothly. “Other than the Duke, I need to get closer to the Royal House, too. Marrying the princess is the right move.”

Other than saving Devo, he also would need to obtain the Maw of Oblivion and the Phoenix Feather.

For that, he needed to approach the Spirit Emperor.

Though he was hesitant at first, marrying Princess Davina was the right move.

Rex closed his eyes, savoring the peace and silence of the night.

Initially, he thought of sleeping out here where the moon was closer to him.

But his mind trailed off somewhere else.

Memories surged into his mind as he recalled what had happened earlier today clearly.

Even though it was fuzzy as he was going through multiple phases of being awake and unconscious, he vaguely recalled a voice between Princess Davina and Crown Prince Lukas. It must’ve happened right after he passed out.

‘I hope you can accept this decision of mine, Your Highness.’

‘You’ve made your choice, princess.’

‘Still, I’m asking you not to make a big deal out of this. I rejected you once, and that hasn’t changed.’

‘You think so little of me. Rex Silverstar… I’d never get jealous of a dead man.’

‘What do you mean by that?’

‘Congratulations on your wedding, Princess Davina. I’d say this now since I won’t be attending.’

As soon as those words were said, Rex opened his eyes again.

Sunlight streaked towards him, making him realize that it was already morning.

Just from the shaded sunlight and birds chirping was enough to tell that it was early in the morning.

It seemed Rex fell asleep.

But even so, his mind still remembered what he heard—the talk between those two.

“Crown Prince Lukas…” Rex frowned at the mention of that name, worried—that this might lead to something he couldn’t control. “What does he mean by me being a dead man? Is he going to try and kill me for taking the princess?”

Quickly, Rex shook those thoughts out of his mind.

“No, that can’t be,” He mumbled silently. “If he were, I’d get a killing intent quest by now.”

Surely, Crown Prince Lukas wouldn’t try and kill him.

But the way he said those words, Rex knew that it wasn’t nothing.

And the way the crown prince said his name—it was almost as if he already knew who he was.
