The Queen stared at where Klaus had sat just a moment ago for ten whole minutes before a sigh escaped her lips. She stood up and began to walk out of the hall when her nose picked up a scent.

It was subtle, but it was there; she smelled it. Turning, she saw a small drop of blood frozen in ice sitting on the chair where Klaus had been.

She moved closer, picked it up, and brought it close to her nose.

When the smell entered her nostrils, her eyes widened. However, before she could take a second whiff, the ice and the blood turned to mist and evaporated.

“What?” she muttered.

“My Queen, what happened?” one of the zombies, who stood behind her, asked, approaching her. When he got close, he saw the Queen’s hands twitching and her eyes widened…

“My Queen, are you alright?” he asked again. However, the zombie queen didn’t answer; instead, she turned and looked at everyone inside the hall.

“The Cure… he has the cure.” Everyone’s eyes widened when they heard her words.

The Cure!

The one thing preventing the Queen and her cult of pseudo-vampires from taking over the world. That one cure that would have turned them into true vampires had just evaporated into a mist of dust, like it was mocking her for the chance she let slip.

“My Queen, are you perhaps insinuating that the cure we’ve been looking for all these years was with the human boy who just left here?” For the first time, one of the zombie elders spoke.

The Queen turned and looked at him. “That is exactly what I am saying, Lamarr. The cure we wanted, which would have allowed us to walk in the daylight without fear… the human child has it.”

The six zombie elders and the two guards shuddered in unison. It was within their reach, yet they had let it slip.

“What? That’s why he was here… to give us the cure?” another zombie elder asked, looking toward the Queen. They knew everything now relied on the Queen, so he asked.

“I believe so, but it isn’t as simple as it looks.” The Queen walked back and sat down. This wasn’t something to be taken lightly.

When she inhaled the blood Klaus had left behind, she felt a suppression lift for a moment, and in that instant, she felt powerful, almost alive. She felt like an actual vampire.

It was a feeling she had longed for over the past 54 years. However, it just slipped away from her, and there was nothing she could do.

“I believe we should invite them back. However, I doubt they would want to come back again or even want to talk to us. After all, I may have pushed them away.”

Regret set in.

This regret wasn’t because she nearly had the cure and let it slip; it was because she let her pride, as Jaguar had said, cloud her judgment. In doing so, she chased off the one person who could have made a difference for her and her race.

That was a huge blow, and even though she wanted to act tough and show Klaus who was boss, she immediately regretted her actions.

She extended her innate domain further, but Klaus and his companions were already back at the military outpost.

Klaus and Queenie appeared 400 meters away from the military camp. Immediately, Queenie turned to Klaus and frowned.

“What just happened?” she asked.

“I believe the Zombie Queen doesn’t want us in her domain again,” Klaus said with a smile. Queenie’s frown deepened.

“I am talking about what just happened. Wasn’t the plan for you to negotiate with her and get her on our side?” Queenie asked, but Klaus just smiled.

Looking at the frown on her face, Klaus cupped her cheeks and planted a kiss on her forehead. “Oh, my dear Asura Princess… you are too innocent to be called an Asura. Do you know your existence is naturally that of a warrior?”

“Your life is meant to be fierce, unyielding, and dangerous. But it seems the human life you lived before your awakening may have softened you up a bit.”

“Not that it’s a bad thing—I believe it is a good thing for you. You will need it when the true memories come.”

Queenie’s frown deepened further. “You still haven’t answered my question,” she said, though she would love to talk more about her nature as an Asura. Klaus seems to know more than she does.

However, she first wanted to know why Klaus had messed up the plan. She felt the pressure from the Zombie Queen, and the feeling she got told her the lady was dangerous. She knew that killing her would be impossible.

So why, then, let someone that monstrous go when they could have pulled her to their side?

Klaus didn’t stop smiling. He never expected to see Queenie frown like this… ‘She actually looks cute when frowning.’

“Who said anything about letting her go? I just put a pin in our discussion,” Klaus said.

Queenie looked at him for a few minutes before a sigh escaped her lips. “What are you planning?”

“Simple. The Queen was someone who had been there from the beginning of the apocalypse and gathered the best of the best. I’m sure not every zombie could mutate like her, so she went through a lot of trouble to locate the best part of the zombie race.

She spent years protecting them, ensuring their needs were met, and even allying with the humans. Back then, I knew if you and the overlords tried, you would have brought her down.

But you didn’t do that because you also wanted to protect the humans, and having her on your side is a blessing in disguise. She also wanted to protect her race, so she went to bed with humans on the whim of blind trust.

However, she became the strongest person on earth that we are aware of at the moment. You also saw her army. They are on the same level as us.

Do you think someone like her would willingly accept becoming my subordinate? The answer is no… she is prideful, which is normal considering this was her hard work.

And while I could lie and use my blood to suppress them, I promised myself I wouldn’t do that. So the best way is to get in her head and show her that becoming my subordinate wouldn’t be the bad thing she thinks.

So relax, my love. She will reach out soon enough, and next time, we can have our negotiation.” Klaus held Queenie by the waist and kissed her.

Though she trusted Klaus, she also knew that going to war with the zombies would be bad. Klaus told her he could choose to let the monsters and zombies be, but he had a feeling he would regret that soon enough.

So, to be on the safer side, every power on earth may come under his rule. As it stands, the alliance with the Vampire Zombies is hanging by a thread.
