Rui’s pitch-black eyes darkened at the question.
He had the answer even before he had learned of the question.
“We adaptively evolve to it, after all.”
His voice was clear.
Devoid of uncertainty.
“I have no idea just what could possibly earn the fear of the Martial Transcendents, but…”
His eyes sharpened.
“I will overcome it.”
Emperor Rael smiled with a light expression.
It was only after Rui returned that he recalled how reassuring his son’s presence was.
Human civilization had many tribulations it was undergoing and others it had yet to face, and yet with the presence of his son, he felt truly able to overcome all of them.
He wasn’t the only one who felt that way.
In that moment, he would have loved to spend the entire day simply speaking to his son for the first time in years since he departed for the Central Highlands of the Beast Domain.
However, they didn’t have time.
Some matters were more important than others.
“Tell me about this alliance with Jormungandr.” His tone grew serious. “It is hard to believe that the serpent has truly awakened. As well as terrifying, with its sheer size, it would be able to destroy this and other continents if it truly wanted.”
“He won’t,” Rui shook his head. “If he had such a careless disregard for the biosphere and for Gaia herself, he would not have remained content to remain a stationary fixture of the deep ocean bed of the planet of Gaia. It is the exact opposite of the Eldritch chimera in that regard.”
“…That is a relief,” Emperor Rael heaved a deep breath. “The alliance you have formed with it will serve us well, it appears. I already have a myriad of emergency reports detailing how the monsters of the depths of the Great Nam Ocean are attacking the outsiders of this continent.”
Rui nodded. “The Beast Excursion isn’t strong enough because we killed all the quasi-Trancendent beasts, something that I intend to fix, and it by itself is not enough. I had been able to foresee that a month ago.”
Emperor Rael’s eyes widened. “…Is that how you knew immediately what you needed to do? The Eye of Prophecy? Is the technique really that powerful? Not even your grandmother has the power to peer that deep into the future, even after she became a peak Sage.”
“It was temporarily enhanced to extraordinary levels,” Rui shook his head. “It’s hardly something that I can tap into on a regular basis. I was only able to foresee it after the Unfolding because of the manifold previously blocking my power of prophecy.”
That was unfortunate.
It would have been of invaluable strategic significance if it were something that could have been used more regularly.
“…And just how much do you know of the threats that we face?” the Emperor of Harmony asked with a severe tone.
His voice carried with it the dread that all those native to the Panama Continent experienced with the invasion of the true world. The sheer scale of the threat they faced exceeded even the Beast Incursion, which hadn’t overwhelmed human civilization as quickly as the true world invasions had.
Not to mention, human civilization today was vastly more powerful and tempered by the Beast Incursion, and the true world invasions had crushed their resistance despite the collectivization of Martial Sages and the World Bridge.
The air grew heavy with his voice.
The atmosphere tingled with tension.
“…I know the scale and the severity,” Rui replied with a careful tone. “I know the crumbling strategic outlook. I know that we are dealing with civilizations that are more advanced despite being deprived of esoteric matter. But…”
He shook his head.
“I don’t know the details.”
The Emperor of Harmony’s expression darkened.
“The devil is in the details.”
Rui frowned. “What do you mean?”
“We are dealing with forces that are beyond our reckoning and capacity,” his father answered his question in an ominous tone. “We are dealing with forces that can outmatch even our greatest combatants.”
Rui’s expression grew serious. “…The Transcendent Candidates?”
“They have been overwhelmed on multiple occasions,” Emperor Rael spoke with an intense tone. “And in the instances where they haven’t been overwhelmed, they have been able to just barely rival their opponents. We have intelligence indicating that none of the latter are the strongest of their respective civilizations.”
Rui’s eyes sharpened.
“So, Transcendent Candidates are no longer the most powerful individual combat assets?”
“I’m afraid not,” Emperor Rael shook his head. “Not even Amare is able to overcome the strongest among them.”
Rui’s eyes lit up with ecstasy. “Amare?”
The Emperor of Harmony nodded seriously. “It takes a healing fruit for even her to match the Supreme Commander of the Evolutionary Army, Anthea.”
The Emperor heaved a deep, shaky breath. “The Beast Excursion and the alliance with the Great Nam Ocean is great, however, they do not solve our biggest problem, which is being unable to counter the greatest individual powers of our enemies.”
No number of Sage-level beasts and monsters could ever hope to even put a scratch on someone who could overcome a Transcendent Candidate empowered by a healing fruit. The quasi-Transcendent beasts and monsters of the Great Nam Ocean were powerful, but they couldn’t fight outside of the waters, and thus their ability to attack people in the air or on land was very limited.
In other words, even though the Beast Excursion provided a powerful upgrade to the Panama Continent as a whole on a strategic level, it could not eliminate all the threats that were there.
“The evolutionaries seek to colonize our continent and exterminate our species.”
The Emperor’s voice was intense.
The air darkened despite the bright light of the morning Sun.
“They seek to make this continent their new home.”
His golden eyes were severe.
The atmosphere grew electric with tension.
“And they have the power to do just that,” he spoke with an ominous tone. “No beast on land or in the waters can exile them or the giants from this continent.”
He gazed at Rui with reckoning.
“Against them we have only you.”
