Chapter 646
"Ah, shit... This is nerve-wracking," a trembling member of the Black Wind Guild muttered under his breath.
For them, who had always been the ones to bully others, a guild war that required the deletion of their game characters—a fundamental part of their gaming identity—was inevitable, especially since they were facing none other than the Saint of Tionis in battle. And so, the tension was unavoidably palpable.
"Think of it as a level reset. Why the hell are you stupid shits freaking out? Goddamn," another guild member retorted with a coarse curse, turning his head and annoyingly flipping his middle finger.
Such a display made it apparent that personalities were not taken into account in the selection of the Black Wind Guild’s members. But they all shared a common denominator—they were all fiercely devoted to combat.
"Why isn't this bastard showing up?"
Despite the clear instructions from the guild master to lure the enemy into the inner sanctum the moment Davey entered the castle, his absence at the scheduled time puzzled everyone.
"Hey. Why is your health decreasing?" a healer in the same party asked with a frown.
Another guild member gave a sly laugh. "Got bitten by a dog or what?"
"Shut up," the player coldly retorted, but he then realized that his HP was indeed gradually declining. "What the—"
Their eyes widened in panic as the tiny bit of HP that had been trickling away suddenly began to evaporate at an alarming rate.
"Aaaaargh!!"
Suddenly, the one with the lowest defense among them was engulfed in bright flames. He uselessly flailed around, as if doing so would put out the flames. Obviously, his continuous thrashing did nothing to help him, and his HP kept on dropping until it hit zero. He was then reduced into nothing but a corpse.
"..."
A chilling silence descended upon the members of the Black Wind Guild, as a terrible feeling settled in their chest, as if a dagger had been plunged into their hearts. They then started taking HP recovery potions without anyone having to say anything.
"Hey! Pop those potions!"
They frantically looked around for doping and buff magic, but...
"Crazy! The damage is getting stronger! What the hell is this?!"
"Fire damage! It's a fire debuff!"
"Run!! That bastard! He's set fire to the entire castle from outside!"
"What?! What did he set on fire?! Fire?!"
"Crazy son of a bitch!"
It was clear how the heat must’ve been unimaginably high considering how they were all suffering from burns without any contact with the fire. As if proving how scorching the temperature really was, the distorted glass shattered as it failed to withstand the heat any longer. This caused the player’s HP to plummet at an alarmingly rapid speed.
Unfortunately for them, they could not do anything if Davey did not come in. So their only option at that moment was to make a dubious attempt at suppressing the fire.
"Gather all the ranged attackers and head to the tower! Shoot that bastard down!"
"Crazy! Thinking we could actually kill him! Ah!"
Despite screaming in agony, the players still had it in themselves to desperately run toward the tower. They knew that they would all be wiped out without being able to fight back if they didn't.
Meanwhile, in the midst of their panicked and confused attempts, Davey was standing outside, swinging his arms gracefully like in a dance.
Boom!!!!!!!
A bright, white, donut-shaped flame from the sky rapidly spun, completely reducing a part of the inner sanctum into ashes.
Ping! Pppppping!!!
The enemies certainly did not remain idle. The players positioned in the tower unleashed all their skills against Davey.
But Davey was fast to notice what they were attempting to do. So he strongly stamped the ground, and a massive, roaring white tiger sprung up from the ground, causing a massive shockwave. The tiger then proceeded to either grab or deflect the incoming attacks.
"What the fuck?!"
As the players screamed, Davey waved his hand, and doom in the form of a white and hot toroid began pouring down on the tower.
The conditions for victory in a siege were already in sight. Davey could end the battle by destroying the giant stone inside the inner sanctum or by annihilating all the enemy players. And unlike the Black Wind Guild’s side, where the majority of the hundreds of players had already been killed, the Lotus side had not lost a single player. Which was a surprising but expected outcome.
Instead of looking for the players inside, Davey had made the decision to burn them all. Though the inner sanctum was supposed to protect them, the game was still grounded in some reality, making the heat attacks quite effective. But if that did not work, Davey still had the option to simply wield his large and mighty hammer—the Corona Destroyer.
As confusion and panic spread, the standoff continued until Davey once again took out his hammer. Of course, they tried to defend with defense buffs typical in siege battles, along with fire resistance buffs. But a defense that reduced damage by ten was useless against spells that caused immensely significant damage. Whether there was a percent reduction or not, the result remained unchanged—a hell of fire.
"Damn it!"
If dying was inevitable, whether they resisted or not, they might as well fight back. So the players began to emerge from the inner sanctum and surround Davey while their undying will consumed and took over them.
But they were naively ignorant.
"The first thing to do when exterminating bugs is to smoke them out of their hiding places. Didn't you know?"
Before anyone could respond to the smug and taunting question, a massive gust, like that from a weapon weighing thousands of tons, struck, which then instantly killed a player.
[Ylgr's Style Crowd Suppression]
[Straight to the Lord.]
“Pieces of shits no greater than simple entertainment...”
This guild war was nothing but entertainment for Davey. The level of resistance from the players was too low, and Davey did not need to wipe them out. If they were just enjoying the game, what would be the harm? But if they dared to challenge him recklessly like Black Wind did, the story would inevitably change.
* * *
As the majority of the guild members were quick to fall in battle, the Black Wind guild master clenched his teeth and yelled, "It’s different from what you told me, isn't it?!"
Beside him, Leora, with blue skin and a bald head, watched.
"Can't you resist, human?"
"Eeek!"
"Useless pawn."
"How are we supposed to beat that crazy monster?! What even is that?! You said you could win, didn’t you?!"
"In my eyes, he seems like a child trying too hard to appear strong."
Hearing this, the Black Wind Guild Master scoffed. "Then fuck!! Go handle that!!! If we lose, both you and I are done for. Got it?!"
However, Leora didn’t bother to dignify the guild master’s angry screaming with a response, opting to remain silent instead.
"Why don't you say something!!"
"How dare you seek help from Malicious Spirits, your original foes, while you antagonize fellow humans?"
"What?"
"It was a meaningless argument. I have mostly achieved my goals, so I have no business with you anymore."
After saying so, Leora then slowly started walking away.
"This- This scrap piece of shitty data!!!"
Driven by rage, the Black Wind guild master attacked despite knowing that Malicious Spirits were opponents that game players could not handle.
Boom!!!
The Black Wind guild master's sharp and heavy charge attack collided with Leora. However, it was completely blocked by the barrier that Leora had deployed.
"Urgh!!"
There was no pain, but the feeling of abrupt stopping was felt.
Looking down at him who had fallen on the ground in a pathetic manner, Leora showed a terrifyingly menacing smile. "One shouldn't trust foes recklessly."
"Eat shit, you bastard."
"I appreciate you for setting the board for me. Thanks to you, I can finally go hunt."
Ssssh...
Then, his body began to slowly change into something akin to liquid, and water-like waves started to emanate from his entire body. Then, bizarre-looking creatures started emerging from the waves.
"Go. Go catch those two."
Kyak!!!
The grotesque creatures with long tails that had sharp tips seemed to be capable of moving on all fours. And yet, they were standing and walking using their hair as two legs. Their fingers and nails were slender, and their thin arms had sharp spikes but were wrapped in crustacean-like muscle.
As the monster swiftly moved out, the blue-skinned entity, the Malicious Spirit Leora, moved again to leave.
Stepping outside the fortress, it was then that Leora saw motionless bodies turned to ash after the resurrection time had passed, all the while Davey silently watched it all happen.
Approaching quietly, Leora directly looked at Davey who remained silent.
"Got anything to say?"
"You seem to know quite a bit about my existence."
"It's my first time seeing you," Davey said indifferently, turning his stony and apathetic face to look at him. "You're the one, aren't you? The one who incited this guild war."
"..."
"I had a hunch there was some trap set inside the fortress." He smirked slightly as he tilted his head. "So? We're enemies. Do you really have anything you want to say?"
Davey's question was met with silence as Leora quietly waved his hand. That was when the air around them started to feel strange.
"How much do you know?"
Davey did not answer the question in length, vaguely saying, "More than you think."
"Do you also know about Atlantis?"
"The race of Malicious Spirits?"
Davey's words were met with brief silence from Leora. It was only after a couple of seconds of silence had passed that Leora finally said, "You possess quite an interesting power."
"I can see you're not just a piece of data."
“...”
At Davey’s relaxed remark, Leora quickly approached him.
"Join me, servant of Freyja."
Davey hesitated at his words. "Become allies with you?"
"Yes. I have the power to grant what you desire."
"Why would I become allies with you? Are you an idiot?"
Davey's sarcastic question made Leora’s eyes twitch in annoyance.
"You possess something I don't have. That is..." He paused, his eyes beginning to fill with intense hatred and madness. "Being outside. Human... Do you understand why this world exists in the first place?"
"How would I know?"
"This is... a prison designed to contain someone," Leora stated bluntly. "Release us, human. If so, I will help you put an end to Neltarid."
Davey did not respond to his offer.
And yet, Leora continued to say, "With your power..."
"Hey," Davey interrupted. He then flaunted the Corona Destroyer as he said, "Just get to the point. Stop beating around the bush."
"Your power is to be handed over to us. You're just like a child holding onto a power. But we can use that power for a greater cause, a higher purpose. Such pure power should be..." Leora trailed off, his eyes shining brightly. "It's meant for a superior race. Not for a lower species like [Horne]."
"My ears must have some problems. What am I even hearing?"
"Everything has already started, and it'd be best if you did not refuse."
Leora’s expression turned grim. "Those two who came with you are far weaker compared to you. They might be strong to humans here but..."
As Leora paused, the monstrous creatures on two legs began appearing around him.
"They too lack the power of immunity to death that the humans here possess."
Such words seemed to imply that if Davey wanted them alive, he should listen to Leora.
But then Davey merely took a step forward. Then in an instant, he swung Red Ribbon, and a red blade energy attempted to slice Leora. But it only ended up getting blocked by a barrier Leora had created.
"I am aware of the power you used to subdue Goumda. However, our preparations are already spread throughout this place."
As Leora was talking, a transparent rope-like substance started to become visible around Davey.
"And your power will soon be sealed. Even the great power of the Golong Race cannot withstand it."
Quietly, Davey strained against the cords that had wrapped around him, but it didn't seem like it would break anytime soon.
"In time, your power will be absorbed by us. But we'll spare your life, so just wait quietly."
Davey silently closed his eyes, looking like he was giving up. However, anyone who knew Davey would say, “You’re getting into trouble...”
"Hey."
After a moment, Davey slowly opened his eyes, and the eerie red glow in them caused Leora's eyes to widen a bit.
Crack!!!!
At the same time, the ropes tied around his body began to tear apart. While it was not a formidable power, all the constraints on Davey’s body were still ripped apart at once as if it was sliced.
Leora then instinctively tried to deploy a barrier just as he had against the blade energy before.
"You should be grateful your guys did not do anything to Perserque."
Otherwise, they would not have died so cleanly.
"What?!"
Rip!!!
Sure, the defense barrier was supposed to have immense defensive power. But the blue sword swung this time, and it seemed not to care, effortlessly tearing the barrier apart and precisely slicing Leora. And as his body was split, Leora seemed puzzled about what happened to him and how Davey managed to exert such power.
"How... How did you manage to break through the absolute defense..."
Davey walked up to him then coldly beheaded him. After catching the severed bald head with ease, he remarked indifferently, "Legendary items, you piece of shit."
