Chapter 602: The Triple Alliance

The Imperial Army, ambushed by the artificial soldiers, was fighting back sporadically.

However, the artificial soldiers were swift and did not go down with just a single hit of an arrow.

For that reason, Leo, riding on Noir, was trying to reduce the number of artificial soldiers in the sky as much as possible.

But no matter how hard Leo fought, the number of artificial soldiers filling the sky did not decrease.

Because of the hit-and-run tactics where they dived down and attacked the ground troops, the Imperial soldiers were being annihilated one after another.

"Damn it!"

Even if he wanted to use magic, he did not know what kind of monsters the enemies were.

He could guess that they were moving with the intent of the Kingdom, but he could not understand why they could control monsters.

What came to mind was the "Evil Spirit", a vampire transformed from a human being, born under the Duke of Kruger.

But these creatures were even more monstrous than that.

The Evil Spirit was at best an aberrant human being.

However, the monsters in front of him had almost no human elements. They had heads, two arms and two legs, and wings growing out, making them grotesque.

Even if they were the same creatures as the Evil Spirits...

Could he restore them to normal with holy magic?

He had doubts because they were so far from being human.

"Your Highness!"

Brought back to reality from his thoughts by Theodore's voice, who was on the ground, Leo noticed that artificial soldiers were approaching him.

He tried to intercept them on the spot.

However, one of the artificial soldiers was pierced by a fireball in front of Leo.

The artificial soldier then fell while burning.

Leo looked up at the sky in disbelief.

There were countless dragon knights flying in the sky.

"They've come...!"

"Descend! Descend! Descend! Draw the enemies towards us!"

While issuing instructions, Roger, riding on a black flying dragon, used his dragon magic spear to take care of the artificial soldiers around Leo.

"I'm glad you're here, Roger."

"I'm sorry for the delay, Prince Leonard. Our king is heading towards the city, so he should be here to greet you soon."

"The Dragon King himself has come?"

"Our Dragon Knight Corps exerts its full power under the leadership of the King. Currently, we have 6,000 Dragon Knights that can be mobilized. We have come with the King. Leave the defense of the sky to us."

"I'm counting on you!"

The dragon knights who were descending rapidly and the artificial soldiers were engaged in a fierce aerial battle.

Thanks to this, the Imperial Army was released from the attacks from the sky.

"Retreat for now! Regroup!"

Inside Shantal.

Francine, Ansem's sister, was saved by William, who had descended from the sky.

However, even William did not fully understand the situation.

All he knew was that Francine, the princess of the Kingdom, was under attack.

So he asked someone who understood the situation better what to do next.

"What are you planning to do next, Prince Ansem?"

"Everyone knows... we fight for the people! The Crown Prince wants to win, even if it means turning the people into monsters! This is the end! Follow me, those who are proud to be soldiers of the Kingdom! We will not obey the Crown Prince!!"

"Tch!"

Upon Ansem's command, Lizette first targeted Magellan.

However, this was prevented by Magellan's direct soldiers.

"Out of my way!"

Lizette tries to break through the direct soldiers, but they are all fierce warriors.

Even Lizette could not break through them alone.

"Don't let them escape!"

Ansem, watching Magellan turn his back and walk away, gave the order.

However...

"Prince Ansem! Interception comes first!"

"If we don't defeat him, those monsters won't stop!"

"I know he's controlling them, but will they stop if we defeat him!? Do we have confirmation!?"

"Tch! All troops! Protect the people! Prepare for interception!"

If Magellan is defeated, there will be no one left to control the artificial soldiers.

That's why Ansem aimed at Magellan, but he didn't know what would happen if the artificial soldiers lost control.

For that reason, as William said, Ansem chose to intercept.

But that wasn't all.

"Destroy all the drugs that were brought in! Lizette! I leave the command of this place to you! While intercepting, take the people and get out of the city!"

"Are you abandoning the city!?"

"If we stay here, Magellan will come back eventually! We can't protect the people here! Retreat to the fortress!"

"But... the Imperial Army..."

"Leave it to me"

With that, Ansem got on a horse.

It was a tough task for his recovering body, but he gritted his teeth and endured.

"Prince William of the Dragons! I am grateful for you saving my sister! While you're at it, take on another job!"

"You are quite the high-handed younger brother."

"I... I apologize... Ansem! Can't you say it a bit more gently?"

"I've already said it gently enough. So! Will you take the job or not?"

"Interesting. Accepted."

"Then, I'll ask you to escort me to where Leonard is. I have something to talk to him about."

"The chief commander himself is rather bold. But, I don't dislike it."

With that, William took the formation to escort Ansem with the Dragon Knights he brought along.

After confirming that, Ansem spurred his horse into a full gallop.

He left the city and headed straight for the Imperial Army.

The only ones around him were William's forces; there were no Kingdom soldiers.

Just like that, Ansem yelled out to the Imperial Army in a voice that carried well.

"Kingdom Army Commander, Ansem has come to meet Leonard! Clear a path!"

The general of the enemy army was coming towards them alone.

The sight made the Imperial soldiers express their shock, but they attempted to intercept him.

However,

"Don't harm Prince Ansem! I, Dragon King William, guarantee his safety! I'd appreciate it if you could save face, Imperial Army!"

For some reason, the Dragon King of the Allied Kingdom, who should have been their reinforcements, was protecting Ansem.

All the Imperial soldiers could do was be utterly confused.

In the meantime, Ansem was galloping through the Imperial Army.

And then.

"It's been a while, Leonard."

"It has indeed. Prince Ansem."

In the middle of the Imperial Army, Ansem and Leonard met again.

The situation was urgent.

Both of them understood this well, so the conversation started immediately.

"The Crown Prince has turned the people into monsters. The people of Shantal are also targeted. We are heading to the fortress to protect the people. I want your cooperation."

"What's the compensation?"

"If I'm not there, the soldiers won't follow. So, I can't offer my head immediately, but you can do as you please after we defeat the Crown Prince. I can entrust everything to you."

He would offer his life.

That statement was undeniable.

He's the type of man who would dare to come to the enemy camp alone. He wouldn't go back on his word.

It wouldn't be a bad deal for the Imperial Army either, as they could take Ansem's life after everything was over.

After the Crown Prince is dethroned, the only one in their way would be Ansem.

However, Leo simply laughed and brushed it aside.

"While I may be the commander of 150,000 troops, at the end of the day, I am merely a field general. I cannot make such a decision. I'm sorry to have asked you this, but I'd like to discuss the compensation later. Our supreme commander should be arriving soon."

"Hmph... I wanted to settle this with my life... but it won't be that simple, will it?"

"That's right. I accepted your proposal. Our forces will also move to the fortress. Is there a chance that the fortress will resist?"

"There is none. The fortress is entrusted to loyal generals. The enemy still has a substantial amount of troops. We'll likely have to fight them off at the fortress."

"If we are at the fortress, we can evacuate the civilians via the sea. If we can buy some time, the Adventurer's Guild should start to move... indeed, it is the best strategy."

"I'm glad to have your understanding. I'd like you to allocate half of the Imperial Army to guard the civilians. We'll also allocate half to guard the civilians. The rest will deal with them. William, be our witness."

"As the Dragon King, I accept the role of witness. This is sudden, but shall we say this is a tri-nation alliance?"

William announced.

In response to that, both Ansem and Leonard nodded.

The soldiers around them might not be able to keep up with the conversation, but Ansem's army, who had fought fiercely, and Leonard's army, agreed to join forces here.
