Chapter 836: Halfway To The Top

As Maximus slowly walked forward with his whole family in tow, all individuals, regardless of their strength, unconsciously stepped back, forming a path for them.

Maximus’s aura was so overwhelming that they even forgot to breathe.

Like a sleeping beast, an invisible fear gripped their hearts, urging them not to wake it up.

Soon, while they were in a daze, Maximus took the first step toward the throne of the Aeon Plane.

Bang!

His feet suddenly stuck to the ground as he endured a fire fiercer than hell.

“Is this the trial?” Maximus asked, turning to the shocked crowd.

“Each stair bears the weight of all beings, amplified by each entity of law.”

“To ascend to the throne above, you must walk all the way up.”

Hearing the entity of origin explain the rules, the powerhouses behind finally reacted.

“You! Maximus, how could you be so strong?” Zar said, speaking up as he reignited his suddenly extinguished fighting spirit.

“If you want to know, catch up to me…” Maximus replied nonchalantly, continuing to step forward.

According to the rules, he only needed to bear the weight of the Aeon Plane, amplified by the entities of law.

Growing serious, he mobilized the raw power in his body, counteracting the burden preventing him from moving forward.

As if unable to withstand the sudden surge, the first step of the stairs spewed sparks of fire, desperate to hold him back.

“The rules are easy enough.” Maximus smiled as he looked toward the throne high above.

Under the sparks of fire bearing the weight of all beings, Maximus’s foot rose, stepping onto the next stair.

From the weight of fire to the weight of water, although the pressure increased, Maximus continued to move forward with ease.

As if climbing a regular staircase, he remained unhindered, slowly ascending step by step.

Meanwhile, unlike Maximus, his family didn’t have a better time.

Bearing the weight of the world, they nearly knelt on the first step.

Fortunately, as they resisted with all their will and might, their core of origin grew stronger, as if undergoing an evolution.

Forcing themselves up, they took another step, bracing their knees to avoid collapsing.

Withstanding greater pressure, the enhancement and evolution of their core of origin surged another notch.

Noticing this increase in evolution speed, they pushed themselves up and continued to ascend.

But as they reached the fifth step, some hit their limit, slumping to the ground, supported only by their four limbs.

“Go, don’t wait for us. We’ll catch up later…” Hazel said.

Because some leaned more toward support and hadn’t endured much baptism to strengthen their will and might, they could only stop at the fifth step, waiting for their core of origin to slowly evolve.

“Then take care. We’ll be waiting for you…” Skye took the lead, guiding the others to continue their ascent.

“We’re still weak…” Erica sighed, unable to even stand.

“Don’t worry Mothers, we’ll catch up eventually…” Serene comforted.

Meanwhile, the other powerhouses were in worse shape.

Most remained stuck on the first and second steps, while the new overlords lingered on the third and fourth steps.

Only a few could keep pace with the Shadowcrest family, stepping on the same level and ascending even further.

The ascent to the throne of the Aeon Plane relied not on raw strength but on the ability to withstand and bear the suffering, sorrow, pain, and despair of every being.

Because of this, the Old Overlords, Zar, Paragon, Marcus, Atlas, and others who had endured billions to trillions of epochs of battle and experience held an advantage.

Still, as they climbed, their feet grew heavier with each step.

As they ascended to the tenth step, most began to falter, with only a few able to continue.

Pushing further, at the thirtieth step, only the Old Overlords, Zar, Paragon, Marcus, Atlas, and some others pressed on.

At the seventieth step, only Lazo, Nyx, Sira, Zar, Marcus, Atlas, and a few of the Shadowcrest family continued to ascend.

At this stage, the Old Overlords and those powerhouses who only had their experience to hold them on didn’t have the power to climb up.

Without the potential and unique opportunity, they could only stand back and watch others continue to walk further up the stairs.

Reaching the hundredth, three hundredth, and five hundredth steps, no one backed down until they hit the thousandth step.

At the thousandth step, only Zar, Lazo, Marcus, Atlas, Skye, Max, Iris, and Nero could go on.

Zar and Lazo contained the potential of a pseudo-plane level physique.

Marcus has the combat ability reaching pseudo-plane level.

Atlas is the son of a plane, with a will tempered to the extreme.

Skye and Max, trained with endless battles and death.

Iris was supported by the power of immortality that could resist everything from chaos to dark energy.

Nero forged the perfect foundation of power at every step without any flaw.

Only the six had the ability to continue walking further, inching closer to the throne of the Aeon Plane.

Looking up, with their bodies trembling under the pressure, they saw Maximus blurring in the distance.

“How did Maximus become so strong?” Zar gritted his teeth, unwilling to accept the difference in their strength.

While their body and core of origin nearly broke under the pressure, Maximus moved leisurely, as if strolling through his garden.

“Hah, my husband is the strongest. There’s no way you can compare,” Skye muttered proudly, as if regaining her strength.

“Hmph! Keep going. A temporary lead doesn’t matter if you can’t reach the top!”

With this resolve, they pressed on, forcing every ounce of their might and will.

But at the three thousandth step, Iris gave up, cheering them from behind.

The power of immortality could only take her to such an extent, lacking the corresponding will compared to the others.

At the five thousandth step, Nero stepped down, unable to go further.

Although he had a perfect foundation and had been bearing the imperfection of the world from birth, which tempered his will, it wasn’t enough to keep going.

At the seven thousandth step, no matter what Max did, he could no longer move an inch.

Before his will collapsed, it was his body that gave out on him.

At the ten thousandth step, to everyone’s shock, Lazo was the next to give up.

“Huh~ I can’t go on. I’m tired. I’ll leave this to you youngsters…”

“You! Old man, how can you give up?” Zar shouted in anger.

Lazo was the strongest overlord in the Aeon Plane.

For him to surrender before them was a mockery to all beings!

“What can I do? I can’t go on. This is all I can manage,” Lazo said with a shrug.

He had never been the hardworking type.

He reached his current strength, becoming the mightiest in the Aeon Plane, simply by sleeping and eating. How much suffering could he truly withstand?

If not for the residue of the chaos eater bloodline, which let him grow just by eating, he wouldn’t have lasted a thousand steps.

“What a shameful old man! I despise you!” Zar spat.

“I don’t care. If you still have the energy to scold me, you’d better catch up to that freak of a man,” Lazo said lazily, pointing to the top.

While they struggled at the ten thousandth step, Maximus had already ascended halfway.
