Transcendent Dawn

Chapter 685: Beast Disaster

Sureda Kingdom, northern border.

Rushing Wolf Fortress.

This is a steel fortress situated in the mountains’ crevice, its surface densely packed with needle-like cannons aimed at the white wasteland beyond the mountains.

There, a multitude of bloodthirsty beasts dwell.

This Rushing Wolf Fortress is the most crucial defensive line and base protecting the border of the Sureda Kingdom.

In the snowy white, several black specks can be vaguely seen.

They are cheetah-like mechs, galloping at high speed on the snowy field with all four feet.

Trailing behind them is a pack of bloodthirsty leopards.

Each of them is over six meters tall, their skin decaying to reveal vibrant red muscles. Their fangs are sharp, with traces of blood-red rust-like signs. There isn’t much consciousness in their eyes, only madness.

“Straight north, beast pack detected. Prepare the Magic Tattoo Cannons!”

In the fortress, a row of cannon barrels inscribed with many magical tattoos began to charge.

The Sureda Kingdom was already famed for its magic inscription studies, and the Rushing Wolf Fortress had spared no expense, having eighteen ‘City Destroyer’ class main cannons, and over three hundred auxiliary cannons.

What is being used now are neither the main cannons nor the auxiliary ones, but just the most basic firepower support.

Boom!

The Magic Tattoo Cannon roared, exploding amidst the pack of bloodthirsty leopards in the rear.

The extreme heat erupted, a heat wave swept across, bringing with it fragments of limbs.

“Prepare to open H-13 door and greet the vanguard’s return!”

“Ha ha… just a group of bloodthirsty leopards coming to die?”

For the fortress’ defense army, this was just routine. Whether it was those on the lookout or those operating the cannons, they were all relaxed.

A small, inconspicuous door of the fortress opened. Although merely a small door, its size was ample enough for a leopard-shaped mech to enter.

The hatch opened, and a military man from the Sureda Kingdom jumped down, his face filled with terror: “First level alert! Beast Tide! Beast Tide!”

Beast Tide!

These two words were like magic, causing the airport ground service and security personnel’s movements to halt.

After a long while, they began moving frantically as if they had been whipped, and the piercing sound of the alarm resonated throughout the entire fortress.

“A new wave of… Blood Beast Tide?”

At the top of the Rushing Wolf Fortress, General Pewitt, known as the “Wolf of the Kingdom,” watched the scene from his high vantage point and murmured to himself: “This once-in-several-years or once-in-a-decade Beast Tide. After numerous investigations, it has been confirmed that it is on the verge of breaking out!”

He hesitated no longer, and said to the messenger behind him: “Immediately send word to the Capital requesting reinforcements. Turn on the broadcast, I want to address the whole fortress.”

Soon, only General Pewitt’s voice resonated throughout Rushing Wolf Fortress:

“… We cannot escape, behind us are our families, our land, our kingdom…”

“Beast Tides are terrifying… But the Rushing Wolf Fortress has stood firm through 17 of them. I believe, it can continue to stand amidst the mountains!”

“Victory to mankind!”

“Victory!”

“Victory!”

In this inevitable race war, the soldiers of the Rushing Wolf Fortress exploded in a last burst of valor, shouting loudly.

They believe that under the leadership of the Wolf of the North, they can survive this Beast Tide!

Three days later.

On the snowy field, a multitude of red lines emerged.

The ones leading the front were hundreds of ten-meter-high mammoth elephants. Around them was a sea of blood, with minions like bloodthirsty leopards everywhere, along with various nameless mutated bizarre creatures.

In the sky, blood-red eagles and vultures danced, and within the pitch-black clouds, pairs of bloody wings stirred.

“This scale?”

Flying in the sky in his Mecha, General Pewitt lost his voice for a moment.

He had served in the military for decades but had never seen a Blood Beast Tide of this scale before!

‘This time, it is ominous…’

A sense of foreboding spread within him.

At that moment, he saw the dark clouds in the sky disperse, and a massive pressure began to spread out.

A colossal blood-colored creature emerged.

It resembled a giant lizard with terrifying claws and a monstrous head. It had three broken blood wings on its left and four on its right, creating a sense of asymmetrical distortion.

Its scales were dark red with twisting patterns, its vertical pupils were cold, but not mad.

At this point, it scanned General Pewitt with the eyes as though sizing up prey.

‘It…has wisdom?’

Pewitt’s heart sank.

Kinsley Kingdom, Mechanical University.

Su Lu walked into the research institute to find an unusual atmosphere.

“Where is the professor?”

He asked.

“Professor James is in a meeting… discussing matters concerning the north,”

Sha Lina was drinking coffee on her lounge chair. She responded casually, “About the situation in Surida.”

“Surida Kingdom, did something happen there?”

Su Lu frowned.

Something that could affect the Kinsley Kingdom wouldn’t be a small issue.

“Yes… A large-scale Beast Tide broke out in Surida’s North Territory, Rushing Wolf Fort fell, and General Pewitt perished…”

Sa Lina’s voice was slightly low, “It’s said that an intelligent Blood Beast appeared, and killed Pewitt, the Ace Mecha Master, in direct combat.”

An ‘Ace’ Mecha Master could undoubtedly turn the tide of an entire battle.

There were only a few of such people in a Kingdom.

The loss of one would surely reduce the overall power of the Surida Kingdom significantly.

“In this ‘Blood Beast Disaster’, it has spread across Surida’s North Territory. Capong, Dolo, and Mountain – all three cities have fallen… casualties… over a million!”

Sha Lina was clearly well-informed.

“That many…”

Su Lu knew the situation was indeed serious, “It almost seems like Surida Kingdom is being destroyed?”

“In fact, it already stands on the brink of extinction. It can’t afford to worry about previous frictions anymore and has asked Kinsley and Sass for help. There’s a high likelihood that both will agree. After all, we’re all humans. Moreover, if Surida Kingdom becomes extinct, we’ll be the Blood Beasts’ next target!”

Sa Lina replied, “For now, this news needs to be kept secret so as not to cause public panic. But it’s just a matter of buying time. Once total war preparations begin, the news will definitely be announced.”

“If enlistment happens, the Kingdom’s Mecha Masters will surely be the first to be conscripted.”

Sha Lina stood up, revealing the perfect curve of her body, “I will be among the first. If the situation is unfavorable, even the reserve Mecha Masters won’t be spared…”

It seemed as though she was hinting something. She smiled and stroked Xila’s face, “My dear ones, you better not die like this…”

She left the research institute amid peals of laughter.

“We… we won’t be affected, right? We’re engineers, researchers!”

Xila seemed to be frightened and stuttered as she asked.

“We should be…”

Su Lu was somewhat uncertain, “As long as the war doesn’t reach the borders of the Kinsley Kingdom…”

Once it did, it would signify the extinction of Surida Kingdom and humans standing on the brink of chaos. At such a time, would there even be a difference between an engineer and a Mecha Master?
