The helicopter’s rotors slowed, the vibrations settling as they touched down at the military base.

Noah stepped out first, his boots hitting the ground with a firm thud. His expression was unreadable, his gaze distant.

But his mind?

His mind was elsewhere.

As his team disembarked behind him, he was already listening—his earpiece filtering through the signal coming from the tracking chip inside Riner’s body.

Crackling radio static. Then—voices.

“Riner. What happened? You guys were meant to eliminate the target. You had already cleared all the guards that were on the property.”

A pause. Then, Riner’s voice—weaker than before, strained, yet steady.

“I’m not sure. But it was definitely the doing of that demon.”

Noah’s lips curled slightly.

Demon, huh?

A deep voice scoffed through the radio.

“Demon? You mean the person who was with you before we started shooting?”

“Yes. It’s him.”

Noah could hear Riner breathing heavily, as if recalling something truly terrifying.

“He isn’t normal.”

“What do you mean?” another voice asked.

“We were entering the estate as the helicopter arrived,” Riner began, his tone dark. “I placed two snipers to deal with them as they descended, but they failed miserably. And most of the team was stationed outside to handle the reinforcements.

“But shortly after we entered, the teams were non-responsive.”

A long silence followed.

Then, the man beside him spoke again.

“This is a problem. If what you’re saying is true, then why did he leave you alive?”

“…”

“Hurry up! Check my body for any equipment!” Riner’s voice rose suddenly, frantic. “We might be targeted! They might have a tracker on us!”

Noah leaned back slightly against the military jeep he had walked to, arms crossed as he listened.

This was the moment of truth.

On the other side, there was rustling—the sound of a bag unzipping, equipment being pulled out.

“Hold still.”

A faint hum filled the speakers as a scanner swept over Riner’s body, tracing his arms, his torso, his legs.

Then—

A sigh of relief.

“You’re clear.”

The chip was undetectable.

The man with Riner shook his head, leaning back in his seat.

“You might be overthinking it. I don’t think this ‘demon’ is as strong as you’re making him out to be. He missed all his shots as we dragged you away.”

Noah could almost hear Riner’s teeth grinding over the radio.

“Impossible.” Riner’s voice was firm. Unshaken.

“He shot me in the calf while I was in the smoke. Do you know how impossible that is? It wasn’t luck.”

His breathing grew heavier.

“Even his movement… it’s not normal. He moves like he sees everything before it happens.” Riner continued.

“It might’ve been a lucky shot. But there is indeed a problem—since the whole team died. It seems like the military had a hidden card.” The man said.

Silence.

Then, the man let out a slow exhale.

“Either way, we’ll find out soon enough. Through him…”

Riner sat quietly in the car, something was wrong.

He could feel it in his gut.

Why had he been left alive?

He had seen how Noah fought. The sheer brutality. The precision.

There was no logical reason to keep him breathing.

“Was I really overthinking it?”

The car rumbled along the dirt road, but Riner’s mind was spinning, racing with one single thought.

“No. He let me live for a reason.”

And that meant—

Noah wasn’t done with him yet.

The helicopter touched down, its rotor blades slowing to a deep, rhythmic thrum as the dust kicked up around the landing zone. The metallic groan of the aircraft settling was drowned out by the heavy boots hitting the tarmac as Noah and his team descended onto the base.

Lieutenant Adam stood waiting at the bottom, his arms crossed, his expression unreadable.

He had already been briefed—reports had flooded in from the field, confirming the details of the successful extraction.

But what he was most interested in was the impossible number attached to the mission report.

Nineteen confirmed kills.

By a single man.

Adam’s eyes flicked toward Noah, but before he could say anything, a blur of movement shot past him.

Dr. Elliot Graves rushed forward, his hands clutching his laptop bag like a lifeline, his body practically vibrating with frantic energy.

“Lieutenant Adam!” he blurted out, barely stopping himself from crashing into him.

Adam, slightly taken aback by the sheer desperation in the scientist’s voice, raised an eyebrow. “Doctor?”

“I made a breakthrough!” Graves exclaimed, his breathing uneven. “I need a lab immediately. I need to check it out as soon as possible!”

Adam blinked. “A breakthrough?”

“Yes!” The scientist’s eyes were wild, darting between Adam and Noah, who simply watched him in mild amusement. “I need a secured facility, a fully equipped lab. I—I don’t care about anything else right now!”

Adam frowned, glancing at Noah for context.

Noah, still standing a few feet away, gave a nonchalant shrug. “He made a breakthrough with his technology, on the way here,” he said simply.

“Captain is trying to say that, the doctor was stuck on a part, and he helped him with it slightly,” Natasha butted in.

“Small details,” Noah rebuked.

Graves whipped his head toward him. “Small detail?!” he nearly shouted. “You don’t understand! That detail just cracked the entire framework! Do you even realize how—”

He stopped himself, inhaling sharply before muttering under his breath, “Unbelievable…”

Adam exhaled slowly, rubbing the bridge of his nose before nodding. “Alright, I’ll arrange a lab for you. But first, you should rest. We’ll need time to secure the right facility for your research.”

Graves hesitated, clearly not wanting to waste time—but the exhaustion weighed on him now. The adrenaline that had been pushing him forward was fading fast.

Finally, he gave a small nod. “…Fine.”

Adam turned to one of the soldiers nearby. “Lead Dr. Graves to his rest area.”

“Yes, sir!”

With a reluctant sigh, the scientist followed the soldier out of the area, his grip still tight on his laptop bag.
