Chapter 185: The Emergence of the Emperor’s Corpse!
After dealing with two adversaries, Lin Qi’an chose not to continue exploring but returned to regroup with Lin Liuli and Zhao Yunji.
When it came to seeking fortuitous opportunities, it was best to leave it to the “Destined Child.” They were the true professionals when it came to treasure hunting!
“Lin Qi’an, why are you here too?” The two women were visibly surprised, yet their expressions revealed a sense of relief. Having Lin Qi’an around simply felt reassuring.
“It’s a coincidence. So, how did it go? Found anything?” Lin Qi’an asked.
“No, nothing. What about you?” Zhao Yunji responded.
“Not much either. Let’s move together.” Lin Qi’an led the two women forward.
They followed the path already cleared by the Western Dynasty, where numerous traps and mechanisms had been disarmed. Lin Qi’an, with the two beauties in tow, walked leisurely as if they were out for a stroll.
“Lin Qi’an, how can you be so relaxed? Aren’t you worried those people might try to ambush you?” Lin Liuli remained on high alert, scanning their surroundings.
“She’s right. They’ve been harboring ill intentions all along. You should stay vigilant,” Zhao Yunji added with a nod.
“Princess, are you actually concerned about me?” Lin Qi’an teased.
“I’m not concerned about him!” Zhao Yunji retorted immediately, her tone defensive.
“I was just asking casually; no need to get so worked up…” Lin Qi’an coughed lightly. “You probably won’t believe this, but I’ve already dealt with those from the Heavenly Dao Domain.”
“What?!” The two women exclaimed in unison, their beautiful eyes wide with astonishment.
“You mean to say you killed those three god sons?” Lin Liuli asked incredulously.
“Yes, I took care of them earlier,” Lin Qi’an replied casually, as if it were no big deal.
While his tone was light, the women were utterly shocked. The members of the Heavenly Dao Domain were genuine powerhouses at the peak of the Celestial Realm. Yet, within such a short time, Lin Qi’an had eliminated two of them without them sensing a single disturbance.
Fortunately, Lin Qi’an was on their side. If he were their enemy, they’d never sleep soundly again.
Meanwhile, the Xi Chao’s team had reached the innermost stone gate, having disarmed countless traps along the way.
Upon inspecting the gate, they discovered a small recessed slot that perfectly matched the shape of the “Mystic Ice Flowing Fire Jade” they possessed.
“Heaven truly favors me!” the Western Dynasty divine son, Xi Chao, exclaimed. The secret treasure he had obtained by chance turned out to be the key to this gate.
Only he could open this door. Lin Qi’an and his group would have no chance of reaching this opportunity, or so he believed. Placing the jade into the slot, the door opened with a loud rumble, sending dust into the air.
Just as Xi Chao was basking in his triumph, hurried footsteps sounded behind him—it was Lin Qi’an and his group.
“Damn it…” he almost cursed aloud. He had just unlocked the mechanism, and before he could shut the gate, these people had arrived. How could their luck be so absurd?
“Well, if it isn’t the god son of the Xiling What a coincidence!” Lin Qi’an greeted with a smile. “Never thought you’d open this gate. Looks like we’ve benefited from your hard work.”
“Wait! This door was opened using my secret treasure. I should be the first to enter,” Xi Chao protested. “Daoist Liuli, you’re welcome to accompany me. The rest of you can wait outside.” He spoke confidently, thinking Lin Liuli would be grateful for such a privilege.
To his dismay, Lin Liuli, ever the blunt Daoist priestess, scoffed and spat a single word: “Pfft!”
“When Lin Qi’an stole the key to open the outer door earlier, didn’t you shamelessly follow along? Now you’re burning the bridge after crossing it? Disgusting!”
Xi Chao felt a pang of anguish. Not only did Lin Liuli fail to appreciate his gesture, but she outright berated him.
“Sis, don’t be too harsh. Xi Chao was probably just joking. He wouldn’t stoop to something so petty,” Lin Qi’an remarked calmly as he stepped forward.
“You’re right. A dignified god son of the Xiling would never do something so laughable,” Zhao Yunji chimed in, following closely behind.
Xi Chao’s face twitched, but he restrained himself from retaliating. It wasn’t the right time to openly confront Lin Qi’an.
Still, where were the other god sons from the Heavenly Dao Domain? If they were here, they could serve as allies against this group.
The group entered and found themselves in a gloomy, eerie underground palace. At its center rested an ancient coffin, flanked by a low stone table covered in dusty jade slips.
“Be cautious! Something’s in that coffin,” Bai Jiuli’s voice warned in Lin Qi’an’s mind. Her four tails were inside the coffin, and opening it would undoubtedly bring danger.
Still, having come this far, how could they not open it? To leave without investigating would make the journey pointless.
As the group approached, their attention was drawn to the jade slips on the table. Zhao Yunji and Lin Liuli each grabbed one. However, when Xi Chao reached out, Lin Qi’an intercepted him.
“What are you doing, Lin Qi’an? Are you planning to betray me here?” Xi Chao snapped angrily.
“Relax. I’m not that kind of person,” Lin Qi’an replied with a chuckle. “There are four of us, but only three jade slips. It’s not enough for everyone.”
“So, what do you propose?” Xi Chao demanded.
“Fair distribution, of course. Since you opened the door, you should have the best opportunity,” Lin Qi’an said, pointing to the ancient coffin. “How about this? Whatever’s inside that coffin, we won’t compete with you for it. It’s all yours.”
“Really?!” Xi Chao’s anger turned to surprise.
He had initially planned to grab a jade slip first and then investigate the coffin, as it undoubtedly held something extraordinary. Yet Lin Qi’an was willing to forgo it entirely?
“Wait,” Lin Liuli’s voice broke the tension, stopping him in his tracks, “There could be the greatest opportunity hidden in that coffin! We can’t just hand it over like this!”
“Exactly! Lin Qi’an, you should fight for your share too,” Zhao Yunji echoed.
The two women felt that giving up the potential treasure was a massive loss.
Meanwhile, Bai Jiuli couldn’t suppress her laughter. “Pfft, you’re truly a devil… You know there’s danger in that coffin, yet you’re letting someone else take it. That’s absolutely ruthless.”
“I, Lin Qi’an, always keep my word,” he declared seriously. “This place is full of dangers. It’s best for us to work together and avoid infighting. Otherwise, none of us might make it out alive.”
The women’s lips twitched at his words. He has already killed several people and now talked about cooperation? It was clear he was simply stringing Xi Chao along.
But Xi Chao didn’t know this.
“Very well. Cooperation is indeed necessary. Acting selfishly will only leave us all empty-handed.” He paused and added confidently, “But we’ve agreed—the contents of that coffin are mine!”
Lin Qi’an nodded, his tone calm and composed. “Of course. Be my guest.”
Xi Chao activated his Mystic Ice Flowing Fire Jade, enveloping himself in a protective aura and preparing to open the coffin. Lin Qi’an, meanwhile, subtly retreated, using divine sense to transmit a message to Lin Liuli and Zhao Yunji.
“Be ready to run at any moment.”
The two women exchanged silent, exasperated looks.
The air grew tense, heavy enough to stifle breaths. Xi Chao swallowed nervously and began to move the coffin lid. Despite his full preparations, dread filled his heart.
The instant the coffin opened, a horrifying aura erupted forth. The terrifying pressure, ancient and monstrous, transformed into a shockwave that surged outward like a tidal wave.
Boom!
Xi Chao, being closest, bore the brunt of the blast. His protective spiritual energy shattered instantly. Blood spurted from his mouth as his bones cracked and his body was sent flying.
The others weren’t spared either. Lin Liuli and Zhao Yunji both spat blood, and even Lin Qi’an, despite his strength, suffered internal injuries. The sheer intensity of the aura spoke volumes of its danger.
“An Emperor’s aura…”
Their faces paled, their hearts filled with sheer terror.
“It’s an Emperor’s Corpse! It’s taken over an emperor’s body. Run!” Bai Jiuli’s urgent voice resounded in Lin Qi’an’s mind.
She had warned him before: if her four tails could turn even a small creature into a ferocious beast of the Celestial Realm, then an Emperor’s Corpse empowered with her tails would be a nightmare beyond imagination.
Fighting was out of the question; survival hinged on escape. Even Bai Jiuli abandoned the thought of recovering her tails, focusing solely on getting Lin Qi’an out alive.
The Emperor’s Corpse began to stir, slowly rising from the coffin. It was clad in a blood-red robe, and its forehead bore the glaring, crimson character “Sin“.
“Run!” Lin Qi’an grabbed the two women, dragging them into a desperate escape.
“Wait for me!” Xi Chao clutched his chest and staggered after them. But as he reached the door, a blazing inferno greeted him.
Lin Qi’an had deliberately left Xi Chao behind as a scapegoat, and now it was time for him to fulfill that role.
“Lin Qi’an, you shameless bastard!” Xi Chao roared in fury, but his anger was quickly drowned by a surge of fear.
The Emperor’s Corpse was closing in, each step resonating like the tolling of a death knell, its oppressive aura paralyzing him with dread.
Xi Chao’s face turned ashen, his body trembling uncontrollably. He couldn’t move. A rotting hand reached out for him, stopping just inches away…
“My kin?” The hand recoiled.
The Emperor’s Corpse didn’t harm Xi Chao. Instead, it ignored him entirely, turning to pursue Lin Qi’an and the others.
Xi Chao stood frozen, his mind racing as realization struck. The Mystic Ice Flowing Fire Jade had marked him as kin to the Emperor’s Corpse. It wasn’t mere luck that allowed him to open the gate.
As the realization set in, his fear transformed into elation. He had survived. He had outlasted Lin Qi’an.
“Heaven favors me!” Xi Chao grinned maniacally. “Lin Qi’an, your end has come. There’s no way you’ll escape from an Emperor’s Corpse!”
