VILLAIN MMORPG: ALMIGHTY DEVIL EMPEROR AND HIS SEVEN DEMONIC WIVES
Chapter 1062 - 1062: Nothing More Than FormalitiesVillain Ch 1062. Nothing More Than Formalities
Allen straightened slightly. “I’ll excuse myself now,” he said, his tone returning to that professional calm he had mastered so well. “We’ll continue later.”
Mila watched him, her heart still pounding, but now with a softer rhythm, more hopeful than before. “Okay,” she whispered, her voice quiet. She wasn’t going to give up, and he wasn’t going to shut her out—at least not completely. That was enough for now.
Allen gave her one last look, his expression still guarded but softer around the edges. Then, without another word, he turned and walked toward the door. Once he reached the door, he paused for just a second, his hand resting on the handle as if he were about to say something more. But he didn’t. Instead, he opened the door.
Once Allen got out, Kai immediately fell in step behind him, his movements silent and professional. However, just before the door shut, Kai’s gaze flicked back to Mila, still standing in the room and looking at Allen. It was only a brief glance. When the door clicked shut, he shifted his focus entirely to Allen, ready to follow wherever his young master led.
Allen didn’t hesitate. He walked briskly, his formality slipping back into place like armor as he made his way toward the lobby. His posture was straight, his expression neutral, and anyone observing him would see nothing out of the ordinary—a composed and professional young man, as expected from a representative of the Goldborne family.
Kai, walking beside him, kept his voice low as they moved. “I guess everything went the way you wanted?” His tone was curious but careful, and his words were intentionally subtle.
Allen didn’t break stride. He raised an eyebrow, though his gaze remained fixed ahead. “Are you talking about the venue or my private conversation?” he asked, his voice steady but slightly distant.
“Your private conversation,” Kai clarified, glancing at Allen from the corner of his eye, his pace matching Allen’s exactly.
Allen let out a long exhale, the kind that carried something unresolved. “I don’t even know what I want from her or from the conversation,” he admitted, his voice lower now, more introspective. “I expected nothing more than formalities. I just… let her get her thoughts out. Whatever they were.”
He paused for a moment, as if replaying the conversation in his mind. It had been more emotional than he had anticipated. Mila’s persistence, her raw vulnerability—it had caught him off guard. “That was why I was so guarded,” Allen continued. “So formal. I didn’t expect anything from her beyond what was needed to maintain appearances.”
Kai nodded thoughtfully, his eyes sharp as always. He had seen the tension during the meeting, the way Mila had seemed out of place, her energy not aligning with the rest of the room. “She threw off the vibe in the meeting,” Kai said, almost as if confirming what Allen had sensed. “While everyone else looked pleased about the deal, she was quiet, like she was somewhere else. Like she was heartbroken.
By you.”
Allen gave a small, humorless chuckle, shaking his head slightly. “How could I have broken her heart? I’ve only met her a couple of times in person. The rest of our interactions have been in the game. That’s it.” His tone was a mixture of disbelief and amusement, but there was also a flicker of something deeper—perhaps confusion since didn’t understand how people could love someone they barely knew.
It didn’t make sense at all, at least for him.
Kai didn’t press, but he had his own thoughts. He had seen Mila’s face, her shock when she saw Allen in that room. She wasn’t just a girl caught up in a moment of business. There was something more, something emotional, something personal. “She looked like her heart was broken when I saw her,” Kai said, his voice calm but firm. He was always careful with his observations.
“Not by me,” Allen said quietly, his gaze fixed ahead. “But by her own expectations.”
Kai nodded slightly, processing Allen’s words. “That makes sense,” he admitted. “People often get hurt when they expect things that aren’t there.”
Allen’s eyes flicked to Kai, his expression thoughtful. “Yeah, her position was difficult from the start. Even though my heart might want to give her a chance, my logic keeps saying no.” His voice was steady, but there was an underlying tension—an acknowledgment of the inner conflict he couldn’t quite shake. A long exhale came out of his mouth. “Well, I gave her the chance though. But a limited one.
I need to keep my distance.”
Kai frowned, glancing at Allen curiously. “Why?”
Allen paused for a moment, as if gathering his thoughts. His voice was quieter now, almost contemplative. “Her name is Mila Sterlinghart. Noah Sterlinghart’s sister.” He paused. “She’s a well-known model in the fashion industry—appearing in designer runways, magazines, you name it. Her job?
That’s not an issue for me. But where she comes from… that’s where the problem starts.”
Kai’s frown deepened as he listened. He hadn’t known this much about Mila’s background before. He thought she was simply one of those young ladies. “What do you mean?” Kai asked, his voice calm but curious.
Allen stopped once they reached the lobby, his eyes scanning the entrance as they waited for the car to arrive. “Her parents,” he began, “are the owners of MagicSword Interactive.”
Kai’s eyes widened slightly in understanding. MagicSword Interactive. Goldborne’s main competitor in the gaming industry. That was no small detail. The rivalry between the two companies was fierce, and the idea of Mila being caught in the middle of it brought a whole new layer of complexity to her feelings for Allen.
“She might genuinely care about me or even love me,” Allen continued, his voice more serious now. “But what about her family? There’s no guarantee that they won’t use our relationship—or the feelings she has—to extract information from me. Or worse, to manipulate the situation for their own gain.”
