This bloody idiot!!!

Not only did you ruin the road, you also caused us to lose all that loot! Is this your first time as a Mercenary or something?!

He actually had the audacity to turn around and look proud of himself, with his hands on his hip and his chin tilted up, like he was expecting us to clap for him or something.

Just saying, I wasn’t even the only one who was pissed because the other Mercenaries were also giving him the exact same look as I was. That being absolutely pissed at this guy of course.

Then, as if to add oil to the fire, he stretched out his arms like he was some kind of messiah out to the sides.

“There’s no need to thank me, everyone! I was simply doing my part!”

I narrowed my eyes at him and used [Screened].

Oh wow… I’m going to be honest, I expected him to be an Off-Worlder but it seems like he’s not.

Seeing that he’s a graduate of the Academy, I guess I can see why his magic is so strong then.

But seriously though, what the heck is this guy thinking? Why would he even think this was a good idea?!

Peeking to the sides, a few of the Mercenaries were more concerned about the crater that had replaced the flat, even ground where the road used to be.

Even if we were to go around the crater’s edge, it would be difficult to push the wagons through the grass on either side of the road.

As much as we want to beat this guy up… It wouldn’t change the fact that we were now currently stuck…

One of the Mercs didn’t think so, though, as she stormed up to the mage guy with her fists clenched at her sides.

The mage seemed to have the wrong idea because he struck a pose trying to act cool while gloating, “Please, no need to push, ladies. You can all receive a hug from yours truly!”

The female Merc stepped up to him and delivered a punch straight into that guy’s abdomen, causing him to cough out the air in his lungs before he collapsed onto the ground.

She then turned back and returned to her party without a second glance back.

The other Mercs shot glares at the guy before also turning away, probably to give the bad news to their clients.

“Geomancer!! Is there a Geomancer here?! We need a Geomancer to patch up the road because some idiot destroyed it!” Someone shouted.

Oh, right. We could just do that too.

Unfortunately, I don’t think my Geomancy is at a proficiency where I could cover up the crater and leave a ground flat enough for the convoy to pass over. So as much as I want to help, I don’t think I am the right person for this job.

Wait… Isn’t that guy himself a Geomancer as well? He even has a higher tier of proficiency than me too.

I turned back to look at them still shouting out for a Geomancer and I waited to see if anyone would volunteer themselves. Seeing that no one did, I made up my mind and went up to the idiot who was still rolling on the ground while hugging his stomach.

I was going to squat down to address him but Katsuki suddenly appeared with a stool for me to sit down on like it was the most natural thing for her to do.

Where did she even get this chair?

I decided not to question it and thanked her before sitting down on it.

“Hello there, nice weather today, huh?” I greeted him.

“Uggghhh…”

Sigh…

I stretched out my hand and healed him with a quick [Close Wounds] spell.

That should alleviate some of the pain but not all of it so he could at least be coherent enough to talk.

He groaned but still managed to sit up to shoot me a look of gratitude.

“Tha… Thanks… Umm…”

I’m not really interested in knowing him since all I need is for him to fix the problem he caused.

That’s why I ignored his obvious hint on trying to know my name and pointed at the crater he made, “Can you fix that hole?”

“Wha… What?”

“Can you fix this hole that you made? Enough that the wagons can pass through here?”

He looked back and as though only realising there was a hole there, he muttered a quiet “Oh”.

“‘Oh’? Is that all you have to say for yourself?” I asked.

He turned back to me, “Is… Is that why I got punched? I swear I wasn’t trying to make things difficult for us…”

I narrowed my eyes at him, “So what were you even trying to do then?”

“I… I thought if I eradicated all the monsters, everyone would be happy… And since there were so many of them, I went for the most destructive magic I had…”

I looked at him for a good long moment, “Is this your first time doing a Mercenary job?”

He nodded.

I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose.

I don’t even feel like lecturing him anymore because he did this clearly because of inexperience.

“Do you know… That monsters have valuable parts that can be dissected for money?”

“Eh? They can? I thought they were mostly for alchemical potions but since none of the monsters there were rare and I don’t think anyone here is an alchemist, there shouldn’t be a problem right?”

I narrowed my eyes at him, “Are you a graduate from Aerialla Academy?”

“Eh? I am! How did you know?”

Because I saw your stats, dumbass.

Of course I couldn’t say that but I just needed him to admit it so that I can pretend like I found out from him.

I furrowed my brows, “Did the Academy not teach you anything about Mana Crystals? You know, the thing that is present in all monsters that can be dug out and sold for Creas or even used as mana batteries?”

“Eh? But the Mana Crystals from these monsters would be really cheap right? Who would even want them?”

This guy…

Wait, he has a family name… So that means he’s a noble… That actually explains a lot… This is a completely clueless and rich brat who has no idea how the world works and came out to play around as a Mercenary or something…

I let out another sigh, “It may not be worth thousands of Creas but it’s still extra money that Mercenaries like us wouldn’t turn down you know? In a way, that monster horde was basically a walking money bag and then you went ahead to burn everything to ashes and even left a crater in its place which could lead to us being stuck here waiting for a Geomancer. Or we would all need to unnecessarily exert ourselves pushing the wagons through the mud around the crater you made which would be way more exhausting than fighting a bunch of monsters.”

He blinked for a good few seconds at me, “… Oh…”

“Yes, now you know why you got punched in the gut. I’m surprised more of them didn’t jump you to be honest. In fact, if you hadn’t admitted that this was your first job as a Mercenary, I would have thrown a punch myself afterwards. So back to my original question, mister Aerialla Academy graduate, can you fix the hole or do I need to punch you?”

To emphasise my point I started rolling my shoulder with my fist clenched as though I was warming up for a punch.

My threat seemed to have woken him up as he held up his hand, “Ah… Ah… I know Geomancy so I should be able to patch it up! No, I can do it! Just give me a while!”

I grinned and turned back to the other Mercenaries, “Hey! This guy is also a Geomancer! He says he can patch the hole up so we just need to wait for him to fix it!”

He shuddered when he saw over dozens pairs of eyes turn to glare at him.

Pretty sure even without them saying anything, he could at least understand the subtle threat that all the Mercenaries were shooting him with just their gaze.

Well, now the pressure is on you mister Academy graduate.

If you can’t fix it, I’m sure everyone here would definitely be lining up to take a swing at you.

That’s why… My job here is done! Good luck!

Now since he’s busy with doing that… Hey girls? I think now’s the perfect time for some snacks~
