“You’re on special duty today.” The regiment commander said early in the morning to Lin Fan.

“Special duty? What is that?” Lin Fan couldn’t help asking with a confused look on his face.

However, the regiment commander didn’t say anything as he waved for Lin Fan to follow.

Lin Fan was still confused about what this ‘special duty’ the regiment commander mentioned until he realized which way they were going. There was only one place that they could go by heading in this direction.

When they arrived, the ones that were already in this place were not happy to see them.

The ‘special duty’ that Lin Fan received today was having to watch over the emperor.

For a normal royal guard in any other country, this might be considered an honour. It certainly was a special duty to be trusted enough to watch over the ruler of the country.

After all, this was an emperor who had already lost all his power. He was nothing more than a puppet of the factions that actually controlled the power in this Kalos Empire, so he really wasn’t important at all.

Once he brought Lin Fan here, the regiment commander patted Lin Fan on the shoulder and said, “This is something that all of us have to do at one point, so don’t feel bad. I brought you here early so you don’t have to do this later on.”

But Lin Fan didn’t mind it at all.

After all, there was something that he needed to discuss with Emperor Kalos and he wouldn’t have a better chance than this.

“You’re finally here.” Emperor Kalos suddenly said this when Lin Fan walked in.

After a long moment of silence, Lin Fan finally asked, “What were you waiting for?”

Emperor Kalos didn’t panic as he looked calmly back at Lin Fan for a moment before saying with a shrug, “How would I know? You’re the one that called for me in the first place.”

Lin Fan just looked at Emperor Kalos without saying anything at first, but then he suddenly went forward to give a small bow that caught Emperor Kalos off guard.

Emperor Kalos couldn’t help looking around as if he was expecting some kind of trap, but there wasn’t anything like that.

After bowing, Lin Fan calmly said, “Your majesty, like I said before, I am on your side.”

Emperor Kalos had a strange look on his face when he saw this as he didn’t say anything.

It was just too hard for him to believe that what Lin Fan was saying was true.

It had been a long time since he had lost his power and it had been a long time since anyone had said that they were on his side. If it was a bit earlier, then he would have thought that this was some kind of trick.

But at this point, he didn’t believe that he had anything worth tricking.

He was nothing more than an empty shell sitting on an empty throne.

Seeing the way that Emperor Kalos looked at him, Lin Fan took out an amulet that he raised in front of him for Emperor Kalos to see.

The moment that Emperor Kalos saw this amulet, his expression changed immediately. There was a complicated look that also had traces of disbelief in it the moment that he saw this amulet.

In a trembling voice, he asked, “Where, where did you get this thing?”

“This belonged to my father. He passed it to me last year when he passed away.” Lin Fan said in a calm voice, but there was a tremble to it.

Emperor Kalos’ expression became even more complicated when he heard this.

“What is the name of your father?” Emperor Kalos said after a long pause.

“Timothy.”

A tremble ran through Emperor Kalos’ body the moment that he heard this.

It was clear that he recognized this name and that this name had a very deep effect on him.

After another pause, Emperor Kalos finally asked, “What was the final message that your father passed onto you?”

Lin Fan didn’t answer right away this time as he took a moment to think as well. There was a complicated look that appeared on his face before he said, “My father told me to come and support your majesty. To help your majesty in any way that I can.”

Emperor Kalos shook his head and gave a sigh before saying, “Silly child, what can you do? You should already know what the situation is, why would you still come here? I don’t want to see the child of my dear friend acting this way.”

Lin Fan shook his head before saying, “No, I believe that there’s still a chance. As long as your majesty is willing, I will find a way to restore your power.”

Emperor Kalos gave another sigh as he said, “No, it’s already too late. If you came earlier, then it would have been possible for this to happen. But now that the six factions have completely split the power that I once possessed, I really am a man that has nothing at all.”

“I refuse to give up. It was my father’s final wish for me to help your majesty.” Lin Fan said in a firm voice.

Emperor Kalos once again revealed a complicated look at this.

He took a deep breath and instead of responding, he asked, “What were your father’s last moments like?”

Lin Fan once again revealed a complicated look as he said, “My father was injured because of the wounds that he suffered while following your majesty in the past, which was why he was never able to recover properly. In the end, those injuries got the better of him and he finally died because of them. It happened at the end of last year.”

A tear appeared in the corner of Emperor Kalos’ eye when he heard this.

It seemed that he really was filled with grief when he heard this, which just went to show how important the person that Lin Fan mentioned was to him. It seemed that this person held a deep position in his heart.

Taking a moment to calm himself, Emperor Kalos finally said, “That is even more reason why I can’t let you take this risk.”

“Your majesty, you don’t have to do anything. I have already prepared everything, all you have to do is act when the time comes.” Lin Fan said all of a sudden.
