Chapter 1935 - 1935: "Ambush" (2)

Volans and Blaise were shocked to hear that. They had not even moved; how could they lose twelve God Ranks? This was worse; losing twelve God Ranks would reduce their chance of succeeding in their mission.

“Sir Tang Shaoyang is waiting for you. I will explain as we walk…” Roger led the team of twelve to meet Tang Shaoyang as he explained what happened.

They lost twelve God Ranks not because they were killed, but because they switched sides. They betrayed Volans for his brothers.

“I don’t know if it’s Benedict or Albin, but they did not come to meet us here.”

They arrived at the place where the God Ranks gathered. Volans was furious when he heard the details, and Blaise Osmond’s face turned ugly. With no help from the twelve God Ranks, they just turned this mission from a small chance to succeed into an impossible mission.

However, they were shocked even more when they saw a pile of nine bodies behind Tang Shaoyang. The mercenary was the only group that was at ease even after knowing they lost twelve God Ranks. Volans and Blaise Osmond’s eyes were glued to the pile of dead bodies.

“It seems your brothers want you to die quicker for them to send assassins,” Tang Shaoyang pointed at the pile of bodies with his thumb. “They tried to be sneaky around our meeting point, so I killed them.”

Ruben and Mathias threw the bodies one by one in front of Volans and Blaise before they reached the bonfire.

“Do you recognize them? If you can identify them, then we can identify who sent the assassin, too.”

Volans stood on his spot, furrowing his brow. His eyes immediately locked on how these assassins died. He could not overlook the twisted neck, and it was clear these assassins were caught off guard by a surprise, getting their necks twisted one hundred and eighty degrees.

Blaise Osmond acted faster than his grandson, immediately checking the identity of the assassins. All God Ranks across the Eptas Monarchy were recorded, and he recognized all of them. He let out a sigh because he recognized these people.

“Can you not kill them the next time? I know we are in a conflict right now, but killing them will weaken the Sorcerer Monarchy incredibly. The Dominion will keep targeting us if they know we are losing the God Ranks. You just need to scare them next time.”

The old man still looked into a bigger picture despite the conflict, even when his grandson’s life was in danger. That deserved respect, and Tang Shaoyang genuinely admired the old man.

“If you are worried about the Dominion, then you don’t need to worry about them. They will not think of attacking the Sorcerer Monarchy after this war.” Tang Shaoyang responded with confidence as he got up and walked to the dead bodies, “Do you recognize them?”

“This is actually quite worrying. They are both people under Benedict and Albin. It means they are working together to kill Volans.” Blaise Osmond massaged the space between his eyes.

“Or not because we found them in two different locations,” Tang Shaoyang pointed at the four bodies and the five bodies. “They came in two groups from two different locations, so they are not working together. However, this explains why your twelve God Ranks didn’t come. They switched to his brother’s side, or else your brothers would not know our meeting spot.”

Both grandson and grandfather let out another defeated sigh. Losing twelve God Ranks meant they might not even win the succession battle against Benedict and Albin. They were different from the two brothers; they didn’t have a huge force behind them to support their claim. Losing twelve God Ranks was akin to crippling their force.

“Let’s take the positive thing from this. At least, you manage to weed the traitors out, and it’s a good thing that we keep my participation in this mission a secret,” Tang Shaoyang tapped Blaise Osmond’s shoulder twice. “Since we are all here, let’s leave now. We have found where the Dominion’s army is.”

“Are you crazy? We lost twelve God Ranks, and you still want to continue this impossible mission?” Volans could not believe what he heard.

Tang Shaoyang let out a chuckle, “If you are too afraid to go, then you can stay… not here. They know we are here, let’s move you to another safer place, and I will take care of the rest.”

Volans’ eyes widened as if he were looking at the madman. He understood what Tang Shaoyang tried to imply. The mercenary was telling him not to go back and remained outside, out of his brother’s eyes, and the mercenary would face the whole Dominion’s army.

Of course, Tang Shaoyang did not want to cancel his plan even though it meant he was exposing his true power to many people.

“I am not planning for you to join the fight anyway.” He shrugged and turned toward Blaise Osmond, the actual person in charge of the Sixth Young Lord’s force, “Bring him to a safer place, and I will fulfill my part of the deal.”

Canceling the plan meant he had to wait for the Dominion to attack the city. Not only would it take him longer to complete his actual quest, but he had to share his kills with the others as well. That would slow his main quest down. On top of that, he would be exposing his power to even more people than just to Volans’ subordinates.

Blaise Osmond did not really like their odds, but he had to agree with Tang Shaoyang. He nodded at Tang Shaoyang and picked his four trusted people. “Bring Volans to our secret villa. I will send you a message whether we fail or succeed.”

“NO! You don’t have to follow this madman, Grandpa! We can make a deal with Benedict. Did you forget that he came to meet us before with an offer? We can take the deal. It’s not too late!” Volans opposed the idea this time. It would be stupid to go to a losing battle.

“It’s too late, Volans. Your brother sent an assassin after your life. Do you think he will not kill you just because you help him get the throne? Don’t be naive, Volans. This is not just for your safety, but also for our family. Follow them to my secret villa and wait there,” Blaise Osmond was even more determined to follow their original plan.

“If you are determined to follow the plan, then let me follow you too! Let’s die together!” Volans realized that he could not persuade his grandpa and decided to follow him to the battle.

“Let’s make it quick. You guys are being so dramatic, even though I am doing all the work. Make your decision right now!” Tang Shaoyang could no longer watch the argument between the grandfather and the grandson. From his perspective, this was light work for him as he used the God Ranks from the Sorcerer Monarchy and the Raven Monarchy to measure how strong the God Ranks on this floor were.

The God Ranks on this floor were clearly weaker than the God Rank he faced outside the tower, but still stronger than an ordinary Demi-God Rank. The God Ranks on this floor were more like pseudo God Ranks.

“You don’t have to worry about your grandson’s safety, old man. I have my people protecting him from the danger and assassins,” Tang Shaoyang added, “Let him follow us, as it would be more convenient for us later.”

Blaise Osmond recalled what Tang Shaoyang showed him last night, and he agreed to let his grandson follow them.

“Let’s… go…” There was a pause in his response because the nine dead bodies disappeared. He did not see where it disappeared and looked at Tang Shaoyang, “Did you take the body?”

Tang Shaoyang shrugged and turned around, “Follow me. I want us to be quick and attack them before they get closer to the city!”

Blaise Osmond no longer questioned the corpses, but he was curious as to why Tang Shaoyang was interested in them. He did not question it further as he organized his people to follow Tang Shaoyang.

Losing twelve God Ranks reduced their main force to twenty-two God Ranks. They had twenty-eight God Ranks with Tang Shaoyang’s team. However, Volans and Blaise were aware of the secret God Ranks, and they might have fifty God Ranks for this secret ambush.

They followed Tang Shaoyang’s trail, taking the detour as they planned to attack the Dominion Army from behind. That would delay the reinforcement that was from the frontline. Their main target was the supply.

Volans started to lose his breath as he tried to keep up with Tang Shaoyang. He was a Sorcerer, something he must be proud of, as the people of the Sorcerer Monarchy. He invested a lot of his stats into Magic Power and had a low Stamina for a Demi-God Rank.

“Why don’t you use some skill to match the speed. I have purposely slowed down my speed, and you are still struggling. This is pathetic for a genius prince.” Tang Shaoyang started to regret letting the Volans follow them.

“I need to reserve my mana for the battle later,” Volans replied stubbornly instead of using his movement skill that could make him fly faster.

“I told you that you don’t need to join the fight. You just need to be there and be the hero.” Tang Shaoyang was annoyed that these people were slowing him down.

“Mind your words when you are speaking to Young Lord Volans!” One of the God Ranks reprimanded Tang Shaoyang.

“Or what?” Tang Shaoyang turned toward the God Rank, and so did the five knights. That made the God Rank nervous when six pairs of eyes were on him.

Tang Shaoyang clicked his tongue, “You stay with them and lead them to us, Ruben!”

After saying that, his figure disappeared from the group and was followed by the four knights, leaving the Valiant Soldier – Ruben, with Volans’ people. Everyone was startled, including Blaise Osmond, because they could not see Tang Shaoyang’s movement.

“We’d better treat them as equals from now on. They are not just ordinary mercenaries,” Blaise Osmond warned his people.

It took the group three hours of non-stop marching at their maximum speed to reach Tang Shaoyang. They climbed up a hill and arrived at the cliff where they got to see a sea or an army, camping for the night on the open field.

Volans and his grandfather approached Tang Shaoyang at the edge of the cliff. They saw two dozen watch towers. The Dominion Army set up a tower for the patrol, ensuring they would not get ambushed. It was an impressive defensive line for Volans and was quite troubling for them. It would be hard to sneak on them.

“If my guess is correct, they will start marching to the city before sunrise. We can attack them when they start to move,” Blaise Osmond voiced his thoughts.

“Nope, scratch that plan. We will attack them right now. You can burn their supply once they get distracted by me if you want to. Though I would say you are doing senseless things. You can take the supply for yourself.”

Volans was about to shout like a madman, but Tang Shaoyang shushed the young lord, “Be quiet, unless you want to tell your enemy where you are.”

The young lord immediately kept his mouth shut as he glanced toward the camp. He almost shouted for sure.

“If you want my advice, stay here quietly and watch! That’s the only thing you need to do!”

Tang Shaoyang motioned to Blaise and Volans to be quiet as he summoned his first three spirits.

Jet the Sky of Abyss, Baccara the Black Phoenix, and Zephyr the Black Wind Calamity. He motioned the three spirits to move forward, and they did not waste their time as they headed toward the camp, toward three different directions.

The three flying spirits moved, cutting through the air; they were so fast that they made a whistling noise. As if they were announcing their arrival, and then it was followed by a booming sound. Two different spots in the camp exploded in the black fire, and a strong tornado wrecked another spot in the camp.
