Vol 2 Chapter 12: Plotting the Grand Venture
“Spatial teleportation technique?!”
Lin Jing, watching from below alongside the Dragon Carp, widened his eyes in amazement. The Pine Leaf Mouse truly disappeared, only to reappear moments later.
“Indeed.”
“Spatial teleportation,” the Shen Pine chuckled. “It aligns perfectly with the properties of the Spatial Evasion Grass. It seems the little mouse digested it well!
“While it’s not a combat-oriented spatial spell, it’s quite impressive. Keep in mind, spatial mastery typically begins at the Void Profound stage.
“At that level, cultivators truly gain control over spatial forces.
“For example, the academy jade slip you carried—likely crafted by the Void Profound stage headmaster of Qianlong Academy—can instantly connect you across domains from the Great Wasteland Domain to the academy for inter-domain teleportation.
“Similarly, the large teleportation arrays in ancient nations were all constructed by Void Profound or higher cultivators.
“Oh, and the academy itself—it may not seem vast, but in reality, it’s enormous. It contains numerous ‘pocket dimensions’ created by Void Profound cultivators. They’re similar to Cavern Heavens. You’ll understand better during lectures, as teaching at the academy typically happens within these pocket dimensions rather than in the external world.“Of course, the Void Profound stage’s perfect mastery of spatial forces doesn’t mean lower-level cultivators can’t use them.
“However, unlike the miraculous abilities of Void Profound experts, low-level cultivators usually need external aids to use spatial spells.
“For instance, crafting storage bags and tools, setting up spatial formations, or laying spatial seals requires access to spatial resources.
“Your little mouse falls into this category. Using the spatial red leaf as an anchor, it achieved a form of spatial teleportation.”
The Shen Pine sighed with a hint of pride. “At the very least, it now has an excellent escape mechanism when facing opponents without spatial abilities!”
“...”
By now, the Pine Leaf Mouse had returned to the ground, letting out a small sigh. It still longed for the internal leaf-space Lin Jing had mentioned.
“Thank you, Senior Shen Pine.” Seeing the Pine Leaf Mouse unharmed and even gaining such a significant ability, Lin Jing was thoroughly satisfied.
“No need to thank me. I merely ensured it wasn’t poisoned to death by a Fifth-Grade spirit herb. Its gains are due to its spatial talent—or perhaps its sheer determination.” The Shen Pine chuckled. “But this ability lacks direct offensive power in combat.
“If you want to defeat a Divine Physique of the same rank using this skill, you’ll need to be creative!”
“Understood!” Lin Jing mused. The value of the spatial teleportation technique lay in its unpredictability.
“Wait, it’s already been over ten days. Do you think anyone in Qianlong City is still looking for you? Shouldn’t you leave by now?” The Shen Pine dispelled the formation it had set up, signaling the end of its assistance.
It needed rest—it had just cared for the Dragon Carp and then the Pine Leaf Mouse. It wasn’t Lin Jing’s protector; it felt more like a glorified babysitter!
“Ten days…” Lin Jing froze. “What? That long? Did the Mechanized Bamboo Rifle auction start without me?!”
How could he have missed such an important event? Quickly, he stowed the Pine Leaf Mouse back into the Suspended Gourd, urging it to practice its teleportation technique while he dashed toward the academy’s cave dwelling. ŖΑŊőᛒËŠ
“I rented that place with spirit stones. If no one’s there, it’s a waste!”
After tossing the Dragon Carp at the cave’s entrance to guard it, Lin Jing hurried to the Lotus Pavilion. Just as he stepped into the street, a figure intercepted him.
“Where have you been these past days, Lin Jing?”
Xu Zhizhi had been waiting here for a long time and finally ran into Lin Jing.
“You missed the Mechanized Bamboo Rifle auction! Do you know how intense it was?” he said, looking regretful.
“Brother Xu!” Lin Jing sighed in relief upon seeing him. “So, did everything go smoothly?”
“I was in seclusion, cultivating spells, and lost track of time. Can you fill me in on the details of the auction?”
“Of course.” Xu Zhizhi smirked. “Let’s skip the other items. Your Mechanized Bamboo Rifle? It was a madhouse!”
“Oh?” Lin Jing was surprised. While the rifle was innovative, it was still just a Qi Refinement weapon.
How could it cause such a frenzy?
“At first, a few Qi Refinement cultivators bid for it.
“By the end, guess which two groups were fighting over it?” Xu Zhizhi’s expression was amused.
Lin Jing shook his head, clueless.
“One was a cultivator from the Agricultural Bureau.
“The other? Someone from the Divine Mechanism Manor!”
“Unlike the others, I think they cared more about the materials of your rifle!
“Perhaps they mistook it for a mutated spirit plant and wanted to study it. After all, the Spirit Bean’s power is quite remarkable.”
“And do you know the final price?”
“Three full slabs of low-grade spirit stones!”
“???” Lin Jing was stunned. He couldn’t believe it fetched such a high price.
“Was it the Agricultural Bureau or the Divine Mechanism Manor that won?” he asked instinctively.
“Neither,” Xu Zhizhi replied with a mysterious smile.
Lin Jing: ???
“Then who?”
Xu Zhizhi explained, “Just as the bidding reached its peak, a young man dressed like someone from the Demon-Slaying Bureau raised the price so high that both sides backed down.”
“The Demon-Slaying Bureau?”
“Yes, he introduced himself as Gao Sheng. I looked into it—he’s from a prominent demon-slaying family. They’re quite wealthy. I’m not sure what he plans to do with your rifle. Maybe this is just what they call ‘having money to burn.’ Exciting, isn’t it?
“Lin Jing, you struck gold this time! Don’t forget to treat me to three meals at Xianke Lai! After all, I instructed the bidders to sing your praises during the auction.”
Lin Jing fell silent. He had a bad feeling about this.
When he finally reached the Lotus Auction House to collect his earnings, Gao Sheng was waiting for him.
Accompanying him was a Foundation Establishment cultivator with a wealthy appearance, who stood to the side with a flattering smile.
“Lin Jing, finally! I’ve been waiting for you!” Gao Sheng, dressed in the black uniform of a demon-slaying officer, greeted him with a hearty laugh and brandished the Mechanized Bamboo Rifle.
“Look!”
“Why’d you spend so much on that thing?” Lin Jing muttered, his lips twitching as he eyed the rifle.
“Well, it’s your creation. I couldn’t stand seeing it go cheap! It’s just pocket money, no big deal.” Gao Sheng waved dismissively. “I wasn’t too thrilled when the old man sent me to the academy, but meeting you made it worth it.”
“What do you want?” Lin Jing asked warily.
“To plot a grand venture together! That item is still with you, right?” Gao Sheng said cryptically. “I’ve got some promising opportunities lately. Let’s partner up! The extra spirit stones from the auction will be your commission.”
Lin Jing’s vision darkened. This guy was probably like the Cold Moon Sword Immortal—someone who wanted to exploit him for personal gain.
There was no way he’d team up with this guy. At least with the Cold Moon Sword Immortal, he knew what he was getting into.
“Of course, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. He must know I have the Longevity Body and is eyeing me,” Lin Jing thought. Still, since Gao Sheng had given him so many spirit stones, he hesitated to outright refuse.
“We’ll see…” Lin Jing replied evasively.
He then turned to the wealthy-looking cultivator beside Gao Sheng. “You must be the person in charge of the Lotus Auction House?”
“I’m Zhang Duobao. I didn’t realize Lin Jing and Young Master Gao were such good friends. Here’s a Blue Lotus-level token from our pavilion. With it, you’ll enjoy discounts at any of our establishments.”
“Thank you.” Lin Jing accepted the token. “Can I withdraw my auction earnings now?”
“Of course,” Zhang Duobao said with a smile.
“Also, I’d like to consign more Mechanized Bamboo Rifles for auction,” Lin Jing said.
“Absolutely. How many?” Zhang Duobao asked eagerly.
“Two hundred. But I’d like 150 of them sent to other cities for auction,” Lin Jing replied with a grin.
“Two hundred?!” Zhang Duobao was stunned.
Beside him, Gao Sheng also blinked in disbelief. “Why not keep them? We could take them to the mountains, round up some monkeys, train them to use the rifles, and wipe out small Demonic Dao strongholds. You’re a Beast Tamer, right? Imagine 200 rifles firing simultaneously—unless it’s a Core Formation expert, we’d be unstoppable!”
