Chapter 301: Breakthrough (1)
Jayce had his eyes closed, busy controlling the spiritual Qi present in the Magma Pools towards his Dantian. He originally thought that he would only need another hour or so in order to reach the middle stage, however the Qi was getting thinner by the minute.
’I guess I need to go a little deeper.’ He thought, sinking deeper into the Magma.
It wasn’t until he reached the 5 meter mark that he felt the Qi in the surroundings thicken. Once again, he stopped in place and began to absorb Qi into his Dantian.
The heat from the Magma was a little uncomfortable, but it was not at the stage where it would affect him just yet.
After only 10 minutes he felt as if he had absorbed all of the Qi around him, causing him to frown in response. Now that Jayce was so close to a breakthrough, he would not give up easily.
Which was why he began to descend once again.
Elder Qing who had been keeping his divine sense on Jayce suddenly opened his eyes wide in shock. He was about to jump into the Magma Pool, thinking that the young man had bitten off more than he could chew.
There had been a few times where disciples would faint and descend to the bottom and if someone didn’t save them in time they would turn into ashes.
However, it seemed that Jayce was fully conscious and was steadily controlling his descent into the magma.
“I guess I underestimated him…” Elder Qing muttered, seeing the state of Jayce.
Now that he had reached 10 meters deep, Jayce felt as if his body was in the midst of an inferno. The temperature had increased by at least twofold from the 5 meter mark, causing his entire being to be in pain.
However, while the pain was distracting, it was not yet at the level of the Heavenly Tribulation that Jayce had experienced on Earth. After a few moments he was able to tolerate and move past the pain before beginning his cultivation once more.
The Qi seemed to be thicker the further he descended, hinting that their was probably a heavenly treasure at the depths of the Magma Pools.
After around 10 minutes, Jayce could feel a change happening inside his Dantian, or specifically his shining Red Core. Without hesitation, he moved his consciousness into his Dantian in order to get a closer look.
He saw the Spiritual Qi that he absorbed rushing into his core. At first, it seemed as if the Qi was blending into the core, causing it to increase in size. However, cracks began to form on the outside of the core, starting off as micro fractures.
Yet as the Qi continued to pour in, the cracks grew in size. Jayce wasn’t worried, as this was the breakthrough described in his Soaring Dragon Cultivation manual.
To reach the middle stages of the Core Formation realm, one needed to break down their original core and reform it with all of the accumulated Qi. This was only possible if one had a solid foundation, otherwise the consequences would be dire.
If one lacked a good foundation, the core would fail to reform, causing a Qi deviation and possibly killing the person. This was why those who had poor backgrounds with little resources weren’t able to ascend past the early Core Formation stage.
If Jayce did not receive the cultivation manuals from Rubick, he would have fallen into this category with his trial and error approach to cultivation. Thankfully, his foundation was as solid as could be.
The sound of glass shattering entered his mind at the same time he saw his Core fall to pieces, revealing his solid foundation in the center. Jayce felt a sharp pain inside, causing him to grit his teeth, however he kept his attention focused on his Dantian.
After a few moments of torture, the Qi in his Dantian seemed to awaken from its slumber. It gathered together and began spinning around his foundation, forming a sphere which covered it.
Jayce felt the Qi in his surroundings begin to thin once again as his body absorbed it on its own. When the Qi began to dry up, the pain he felt in his Dantian began to increase tremendously, almost causing him to scream in response.
The breakthrough began to stagnate as the sphere of Qi began to slow its rotation. Jayce could instinctively tell that if the sphere of Qi completely stopped, something bad would happen.
’I need more Qi!’ Jayce exclaimed.
He didn’t have any mana stones since he no longer had his spatial ring, which meant he needed to find more Qi to absorb and fast.
There was no other choice than to descend further into the Magma Pools, braving the extreme heat.
“Oh? He’s descending again?” Elder Qing was surprised, yet he frowned in the next moment.
“His Qi is in turmoil… HUH!?” His eyes shot wide open and he quickly got to his feet.
“He’s breaking through? In the Magma Pools no less. What a fool!”
Elder Qing could only stand by the side and wait for Jayce to complete his breakthrough. If he were to interrupt Jayce, he could very well cause him to go into Qi deviation and cause his death.
However, if Jayce was unable to breakthrough he would die within the Magma Pool. There was only 1 path to survival in this situation and that was for him to break into the middle stage.
If he was successful, Elder Qing would pull him out before he was consumed by the heat.
He shook his head, lamenting at the foolishness of youth.
Jayce did not know what was going through Elder Qing’s mind, nor did he have time to care. Feeling as if he was being torn apart from the inside, he descended further into the magma, trying to resist the incredible heat that attacked him from the outside.
’Just a little bit further…’
