Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4480: One Swing Of A Scythe

Chapter 4480: One Swing Of A Scythe

*BOOM!*

The Nether Devilarch’s strike split the heavens. The massive bone sword sliced down, creating a crescent-shaped wave of dark energy that roared across the sky. Space was torn apart in its path, and the very clouds recoiled in fear.

At the same time, three artifacts lit up in unison around the towering devil. One was a drum that released invisible shockwaves, another a mirror that inverted spiritual perception, and the third a glyph scroll that bound movement through spatial disruption.

All of them targeted Davis.

Yet, as the air twisted and suppressed around him, Davis didn’t retreat. He didn’t even blink.

Instead, he calmly raised his hand. Two of his three cultivation systems surged in tandem.

The space around him stilled, the shadows beneath his feet stretched unnaturally, his pitch-black soul force surging like a rising tide. The pressure of the three artifacts stalled for a moment against the pressure unleashed by Davis.

Death energy poured out of Davis’s soul like a river overflowing its banks. It was not a violent burst but a slow and ominous release, seeping out like smoke from a funeral pyre. It crawled through his meridians, winding around his bones, suffusing every vein in his body. His aura darkened. The sky above him lost color.

The oppressive aura of death let every being know that he couldn’t be trifled with, even if they were at a higher level. The howls of the slaughtered Nether Devils echoed faintly in the death energy as though their last moments had been trapped within it.

Yama, his scythe, responded, draining the aura of death from the slaughtered Nether Devils and quickly breaking through to a higher level.

Years of nourishment and now the death aura from the Nether Devils. His black-white scythe was now at the pinnacle of the Empyrean Grade.

The curved blade trembled in his hand as the death energy flooded into it. The black blade on one side pulsed, veins of eerie gray light running along its edge. The scythe released a silent cry only those sensitive to death could hear.

The artifacts that tried to restrain him began to shiver and crack. The binding runes trembled and tore apart mid-air. The sound drum quaked before a line of fracture appeared across its surface. The perception mirror fogged, its reflections twisting into warped, unreadable shapes.

Davis’s cold gaze never left the Nether Devilarch.

He brandished the scythe with one hand. The death energy on its blade coiled like a wolf waking from slumber. When he swung it, there was no fanfare, no explosion of light. The motion was clean, quiet, and final.

"Heaven Cleaving Abyss."

The Nether Devilarch’s sword wave collided with the arc of the scythe.

*Hsssssssshhh!*

A long, shrill hiss echoed through the air as the death energy ate into the nether-darkness energy like acid on paper. The mighty slash that was meant to destroy Davis was devoured in an instant, leaving behind only ghostly wisps of nullified power.

The Nether Devilarch recoiled.

Its eyes, already narrowed with caution, widened with disbelief. For a moment, it even seemed to forget its next movement. Its body was nearly split into two while the bone sword was fully ripped open.

"Devilarch Arokien, leave!"

Before the Heaven Cleaving Abyss could completely sever the Nether Devilarch, it was pushed away by the other peak Empyrean Nether Devils. In its place, the Nether Devils were cleaved apart. Another one of them threw the Nether Devilarch towards the portal, intending for it to escape.

Davis watched the Nether Devilarch flee.

He really didn’t want to kill this Nether Devilarch since it could grow much stronger. To reap its core before it could grow into an Exalt was not fully extracting its potential, in his opinion. But at the same time, absorbing its core while it was still weak should be the easiest while still retaining the benefits a Nether Devilarch Core could give.

However, he didn’t know what to do with these cores.

It didn’t help humans and was mostly only useful for nether beasts and ghost cultivators. It could be exchanged for a huge amount of wealth or treasures if they could find the right buyer. However, they also had alchemical geniuses like Tina, Dalila, and Myria, so they couldn’t easily give it away either.

Davis guessed that there must be some kind of unorthodox or exclusive pill recipe out there that uses a Nether Devil Core as a main ingredient, and the resulting pill could be of help to humans. He wanted to look for such a thing.

Nonetheless, he wasn’t in any hurry to stop the Nether Devilarch from fleeing.

"Stupid devil. Go back to fight!" Stella’s voice echoed with amusement.

A wave of incredible spatial pressure stopped the fleeing Nether Devilarch and sent him flying back as though the entire sky pressed on him from above, and space bent like a rubber band and flung him down.

*Booom!~*

The Nether Devilarch crashed into the continent, forming an enormous crater that shook the very core of the floating continent. Black blood flowed like a river as it swelled from his giant wounds. The Nether Devilarch was simply unable to withstand the terrifying strike from the Heaven Cleaving Abyss.

The gazes of the Heaven’s Warriors flickered with trepidation.

The color of the heaven and earth had changed when he had unleashed it. It was already a Divine Technique. In these years, they heard he was frolicking with his women and siring many children, so how come he was improving at a blinding speed?

"Graaa!~"

Nether Devilarch roared at the heavens, "Ancestors, I have failed. Pull me back!"

Immediately, a giant suction power emerged from the portal.

"What!?"

Stella’s spatial seal that disallowed the Nether Devils from pouring in abruptly began to shake, and a strange force stretched out, grabbing Nether Devilarch Arokien and taking him away with immense speed.

"This is..."

Davis’s brows squinted.

He could see the aura of death and darkness superimposing with nether energy to form a strange invincible mist that passed through most attacks, almost like karmic energy. He brandished his black-white scythe, intending to cut it off with his reincarnation energy.

However, the Nether Devilarch abruptly came to a stop and began falling again.

"It’s complete~"

A voice resounded from above, causing Davis to look as he saw Clara erect a triangular barrier on the portal. The barrier was gold-blue in color, making Davis raise his brows as he sensed a multitude of energies intermingle and form a powerful barrier.

The Nether Devils were able to step out of the portal, unlike Stella’s spatial lock that held them at bay. They started attacking the seal. However, they were unable to cause even a small ripple in it.

"Humans, you dare keep our little king there!?"

A furious voice emerged from the other side.

From the portal, they could see many terrifying faces. Their mountainous pressure didn’t come across, but anyone with a little bit of brain could tell that they were Exalt Stage Nether Devils.

"Ridiculous~"

Clara responded calmly while standing close, "Why speak when you can break through my seal? Are you afraid of the backlash from this layer?"

"We Nether Devils aren’t afraid!"

One of them tried to overcome, his giant devilish hand stretching out. It barely touched the seal when suddenly space and time froze.

Immediately, that hand was gruesomely compressed and crushed in many parts at the same time and wrapped around like a meatball, along with the entirety of the body behind the portal. It was then thrown into the void.

Davis’s gaze shook as he saw a Level Nine Exalt Nether Devil become crushed into meat paste just like that. It made him remember what Fairy Runalise reminded him of what would become of his second son in the future. The bigger the violation, the greater the backlash from the Void Dimension.

The world became still even when color returned to the world, silence echoing across the region.

"Exceptionally retarded~"

Clara was the first one to speak, her gaze serene yet full of disdain.
