Chapter 2822: The Wall

Godslayer had told Alex how dangerous a situation it was for both him and Midnight. Because of how long it would take for Alex to reach the Immortal Transcendent realm, he needed to save up as much energy as he could.

So, unless Alex absolutely needed his help, he was not to disturb him.

Alex found the situation with Death fulfilling that requirement. If not to help him fight, Godslayer would have to wake up just to give him advice on what he could do with Death.

However, before things reached that point, Alex had two more things left to do.

First, he had yet to fully drain her Divine Sea. She had fought many beasts and drained a lot, but the beasts had never been enough. He always ran out of beasts. But soon, that wouldn’t be an issue.

He would finally reach a point where he could see whether or not the things that were meant to be floating in Death’s Divine Sea were, in fact, at the bottom of that sea.

If they were, he would need to find a way to reinstate those things above the sea.

If not, there was another thing to try.

Second, he had yet to properly attack Death up close with his sword, which he now had evidence could cut through her. He needed to do that much to see if he could jolt her awake, causing her soul to appear out of nowhere.

This was more wishful thinking than anything, but after how she had reacted the last two times he had attacked her, hopefully pain would bring back some emotions to herself.

If all things went well, that would bring intelligence to her.

Alex wasn’t sure if either of those things would work, but he had to try. It was only when those two things failed that he would have to rely on Godslayer.

He would find out very soon whether he would require that help or not.

Once the sandstorm passed, Alex and Death continued walking deeper into the desert. At some point, Alex could start seeing something, even from far away.

A sort of haze in the air that seemed to shimmer, almost like the shimmering sky itself.

As he got closer, the shimmering sky itself seemed to somehow split into parts, half of it coming down not far from where they were.

A large dune stood before them, so they climbed all the way to the top. When they reached the top, they saw what lay beyond.

A mountain of beasts piled up, each crawling over one another, attempting to enter a region.

The shimmering sky that split far high up stopped shimmering part of the way down, and now formed a barrier beyond the beasts. A solid spatial barrier that was completely invisible.

Alex looked at the shape the mountains of beasts made and how it slowly curved around a massive circle. The barrier at the center was large enough to be miles in diameter.

And this edge was the final destination of every single beast from the start of the desert all the way here. Their purpose in life was to get stronger and make their way here.

All so they could pile on top of each other and die in the process.

“So… this is what they were talking about,” Alex spoke softly. “This was where the Hell Emperor’s army came and stopped.”

Millions upon millions of beasts were gathered here with nowhere else to go, stopped by the barrier. That made Alex wonder.

What lay beyond that barrier?

“Is it the center of the Yin spirit veins that encompass the entire desert?” Alex wondered. “Or is it an ancient formation that runs the metal veins underneath?”

Either could be the answer, and so could neither. The only way to find out was to go inside.

But first, he needed to do what he had come here to do, of course.

Finally, these millions of beasts would have to be more than enough for what he wanted.

There were a few things he needed to make sure of first of all. He needed to be sure that the beasts couldn’t sense him, so that he could rescue Death when she was fully drained of her Divine energy.

If he failed to do that, then everything would be wasted.

So, he went down on his own and arrived at the midst of the crawling beasts that stepped over each other trying to get inside the barrier, like moths attracted to a lantern.

This close, he could feel the ground shaking so much to a point that there was no doubt these beasts had a body cultivation at the Divine realm at the very least.

These beasts were stronger than any beasts Death had fought until now.

After roaming the area for some time and making sure not a single one of those beasts noticed him, he flew back to the top of the dune where Death stood.

He then grabbed her hand and pulled her down below, but Death resisted.

Alex turned around with a confused look. She had never resisted him before at all.

‘Why would she…?’ He looked back down below and a thought came to him.

‘There are too many beasts here. To her senses, they must be another village or city. She wants to avoid them if possible,’ he realized.

This was the first time he had seen Death actively resist him. Still, it was minor resistance. She didn’t stick her feet and refused to move.

So, pulling her along was no issue at all.

Alex felt a little bad for the beasts, but looking at them slobbering over each other like rabid dogs made him feel slightly better about bringing Death to them.

At a certain point, Death started throwing out attacks as she sensed the beasts as a potential threat to herself.

This time, however, Alex could see the attacks failing to kill the beasts in one go. She needed two, or even three attacks to kill a single beast.

With such a situation, Alex had no doubt he would succeed in what he had come here to do.
