Chapter 2821: A Particular Property

Chapter 2821: A Particular Property

Alex immediately teleported 3 meters away to the edge of his sphere, and then again and again in quick succession until he was out in the sandstorm, his body being blasted by the sand.

He held his sword high, ready to fight Death. He felt the fear of what was coming, his heart beating through his ears like a war drum.

He did not want to fight, but he was ready.

However, as he waited, the only thing that attacked him was the rushing sand in the storm.

Death didn’t come.

Alex paused for a second, confused by the situation. She had become so violent all of a sudden, so why didn’t she follow up her attack?

Had he gotten away from her senses?

That couldn’t be right. She could tell his location even when he was completely invisible and concealed. She had a different sense that allowed her to detect him.

So, the lack of an attack confused him.

He sensed movement in the sand finally as Death slowly emerged from underground. She climbed out, but beyond that, she did nothing and just stood there.

Alex waited for a short time before he was more or less certain that she wouldn’t attack him. At that point, he quickly covered her from the sand and formed another small dome underneath the sand where he took her in.

Once they were inside, he waited for a moment, trying to see what she would do once they were confined. Would she still attack him?

She had never shown such a response before to anything. Even when she killed humans and beasts, she just did it. But this time, she seemed aggressive. That was so unlike someone lacking a Soul.

‘Is pain what is changing her?’ he wondered. The first time he had hit her, she had begun following him, no longer attacking him.

This time, he had cut her, and that had changed her again, making her aggressive.

If he continued down this line, if he directly attacked her hard enough to perhaps sever her arms, how would she react?

This was the first time he had drawn blood from her, so he could only do more to get more responses from her.

Alex slowly reached for Death’s palm in the darkness, hoping she wouldn’t get violent. Her palm still bled and needed to be stopped.

He wrapped her palm with his own blood, stopping it from bleeding. Hopefully, her body healed naturally.

Once Alex took care of her injury, he focused back on what had started it all. He now had Death’s blood, so he sent it to Playground to check.

Playground took almost no time to come back with the results.

“Average,” it answered. “Her bloodline has nothing special, and her Body constitution is nothing great either. Both are average.”

Alex paused. “Are you sure? Because there is something special about her.”

“Nothing special in terms of bloodline or body,” the Playground answered. “I can’t answer in regard to any physique she might have learned later on, or techniques she uses.”

Alex frowned. That gave him nothing either.

“There is, however, something very weird going on within her physically,” the Playground said. “I do not believe this will help you, but would you like to hear it?”

“Of course. Anything helps,” Alex said.

“It’s about her race,” the Playground said. “She is a human, but somehow she has a property within her that could only be present within a Demon.”

“So… what? She’s a hybrid? That’s nothing surprising, is it?” Alex asked.

“She’s not a hybrid, Master. If she were, it wouldn’t be surprising. But she’s different somehow,” the Playground said. “I do not have enough information to tell you exactly what is going on, but it’s just that one of the properties that is usually available within a Demon is off the charts in her case.”

“Aside from that particular property, she is entirely a Human.”

“Huh?”

Playground’s words confused Alex even more than they helped him.

“She’s not a Demon, but has a property of a Demon?” he asked.

“Yes, it’s one of the properties that Demons have in small amounts, and hybrids have in negligible amounts. But for her, it’s far beyond any Demons I have ever tested.”

“What property is this?” Alex asked.

“I don’t know. I wasn’t given that knowledge, so I only know that something is high. I cannot help you any further.”

Alex took a moment to think.

Demons and Humans, while mostly the same, had some differences within them physiologically that one could separate them from one another just based on sight.

From what Alex could remember, Demons had horns, bright-colored hair and irises. Death didn’t have horns, and neither did she have colorful hair.

Her eyes were regular gray as well, so that wasn’t it either.

‘There’s nothing physically different between Humans and Demons besides the two, is there?’ Alex thought.

He hadn’t interacted with Demons more than once to have any important information. What he knew was what he learned from Ronron’s master or Bai Jingshen. Neither of them ever went into detail.

‘Did Demons have better body constitutions in general?’ he wondered. He was sure something along those lines had been mentioned to him so many centuries ago.

But even if that were true, that didn’t matter in this instance, since Death’s body constitution was as average as it could be.

Alex was stumped, and the Playground was of no help anymore.

“I’m sorry, Master. I wish I could help you more.”

Alex let out a sigh. “That’s alright. You did your best. I didn’t expect to succeed today from the start. I’ll see what I can do on my own.”

“Have you asked Senior Godslayer?” the Playground asked.

“Senior?” Alex asked with an amused tone to his voice.

“Of course,” the Playground said. “He’s the Spirit of such a powerful sword. As an artifact, he is no doubt my senior.”

Alex chuckled a little. “No, I haven’t asked him. I should, but… he’s busy using up as little energy as he can to protect what remains of Midnight. I should ask him, but I don’t want to do it unless I have no other alternatives remaining.”
