As soon as the house was set on fire, the guards who were patrolling the city were shocked. They all looked at the raging fire and then turned to look at one another before running to the gongs that were kept at the centre of the city.
“Run! Run for your life! The city lord has been killed.”
The entire city was thrown into chaos as soon as the emergency gongs started to ring.
Yu Dong looked at the chaotic situation and didn’t say anything before she disappeared into one of the alleys and headed out of the city. Of course she was not going to kill these people without letting them have a chance to survive. As for whether or not they could escape before the army arrived at the city, it depended on their luck and wits.
Bang!
The sound of a vase breaking in the bedchambers of Xien Xieren. The servants lowered their heads and didn’t dare to breathe. They all looked at one another and hoped that Xien Xieren would stop causing trouble because if she went on like this, then she would harm someone.
“That damned woman!” Xien Xieren was furious. If she had known that Xien Zhenya would prove so problematic, then she would have killed that girl when she was just a child! Look at this; she had caused so much trouble for her and there was no end to it.
She could not understand how that woman was bringing down one city after another. The more cities Xien Zhenya brought down, the more she was terrified for her life. She had hoped that Xien Zhenya would fail this time around for this city was not far from the capital.
“One more city… there is only one more city left!” Xien Xieren was really worried. If this went on, then the day where her head was hanging on the city wall wouldn’t be far.
“Your majesty, there is no need to be afraid,” the woman standing behind Xien Xieren stepped forward. She looked at the frantic woman in front of her and said to her in a calm voice, “As long as I am with you, what are you afraid of?”
When Xien Xieren heard the voice of the woman, she turned to look at her and was overjoyed. She reached out and held her hands before saying to the woman, “Master Ji, you need to do something about this situation. I am worried that if this continues, then we will all die.”
Master Ji’s eyes flashed with disgust when she saw how cowardly Xien Xieren was acting in front of her. If she had known that this woman was this weak, then she would have tried to gain control of Xien Zhenya. At least that woman had the courage to fight a war. But Xien Xieren? Not only did she not have the courage to face the challenges in front of her but she also got spooked at the smallest thing.
However, it was too late for Master Ji to change her target. She could only smile and say to Xien Xieren, “Don’t worry, Miss Xien. I will try to help you, as long as I am here, there is no way you will lose your throne, because if this woman lost her throne, then even she would be in trouble.
When Xien Xieren heard the words of the dark arts master, her heart was moved. It was Master Ji who helped her claim the throne, since it was she who had helped her once; she could naturally help her again.
Master Ji had a very good idea. What was going on in the head of the woman in front of her but she said nothing. She said a few more words to Xien Xieren before stepping out of her bedchamber. But as soon as she stepped out, Master Ji’s expression was no longer as good as it was before.
She had joined hands with Xien Xieren in hope that she would be able to rule over the nation and continue with her dark arts without being riddled with troubles. However, now that the condition was spiralling slowly out of control, Master Ji had a feeling that she was the one who made the wrong bet in the start.
She wasn’t strong to begin with; even the matter of trapping the soul of the late empress was done through the small artefact that her master left. She wanted to reside in her sect and cultivate her powers with limitless resources but—
Master Ji gnashed her teeth. Feeling angry and annoyed, the one behind these victories had better not fall into her hands. Because even if she was to fight to the death with her, she would rather drag that woman down with her than lose without a fight.
“Achoo!” Yu Dong sneezed as she sat up straight in her bed. She had been working all night long and yet she was woken up early in the morning. She looked at Xien Zhenya, who was smiling down at her and for one horrible second wished to betray her. “Why did her highness wake me up?”
“Don’t look at me with so much love,” Xien Zhenya sat down on a small stool and looked at Yu Dong before saying to her in a calm voice, “I came here to tell you that there is a slight problem within the camp.”
“A problem?” Yu Dong’s eyes flashed as she questioned Xien Zhenya, “What kind of problem?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Xien Zhenya took out a porcelain bottle that she turned upside down and threw out a large larva that had been killed.
“What is this?”
“We also want to know,” Xian Zhenya looked away from the larva with a look of disgust on her face and relayed what happened to Yu Dong. “It seems like the sect master of the sect supporting Xien Xieren had finally made a move. These larvae were found in moving corpses.”
“Moving corpses?” Shit.
