Inheritor Of Magic: The Magi King

Chapter 1009 Capital Nuclear Reactor Complex

Chapter 1009: 1009 Capital Nuclear Reactor Complex

Once they were gathered on the helipad, Wolfe built a platform for them out of a mix of Gravity and Unholy Magic, so that it was opaque black and less disconcerting for people to fly on, then surrounded it with an air barrier and took off in the direction of the power plant.

It should be a large enough complex, and isolated from other facilities that it would be hard to miss even without directions, and sure enough, once it came in sight, the massive cooling towers caught Wolfe’s attention and guided him in.

“We will land at the gates. I’m assuming that you all have clearance to go in, and it will cause less chaos.” Wolfe informed them.

“Yes, we do. But the power plant is basically shuttered at this point, with only one last reactor online, and that is about to be decommissioned. It’s now a low-priority target, as an attack couldn’t take it critical, and the spent fuel is essentially worthless, not even good for their null stone programs, were they still active.

I know the guard on duty, there is one Demon on every shift, just to be safe in case of attempts at magical infiltration.” The Wrathbringer explained.

“Guardian Galrog. We saw on the news. You must be bringing the Magi Saint to come and fix the power grid, right?” The Demon on shift greeted them.

“Don, good to see you again. Yes, this is Saint Noxus and his companions, here to bring the reactor back online. Do we have the staff to start transmitting the power right away?” The Wrathbringer, Galrog, agreed easily.

“It takes just as many to monitor one reactor as six. We don’t have the usual number of extra staff for safety measures during reactor work, but I will count the Magi and his wives as enough of a safety buffer.

If they can cast the spell, they should be able to defend against it as well.” The Guard agreed, while his human partners chuckled at the joke.

It was unlikely that Wolfe would be using anything near his full power during this project, and just like everyone else on this continent, they had grown up on the horror stories about the power of the Magi Saints, who could destroy the world on a whim.

That was a bit of an overestimation of Wolfe’s power, but that was what the legends had turned into among the humans, and part of their justification for wiping out the Magi to begin with. After all, someone that powerful who refuses to engage in society must be a threat, right?

The fact that Wolfe was openly joining politics and doing big, visible things for his people actually made the humans trust him more.

The guards led them inside, where staff was waiting to greet them and lead them to the reactor area. They were all wearing bulky safety suits, but the witches knew after the war that the Elemental Magic Armour defended against radiation as long as it wasn’t breached.

With Wolfe’s five layered armour spells on them, there was nothing to worry about, and they just followed the group inside.

Wolfe extended an armour barrier over everyone out of courtesy, while the demons chuckled and gestured to the Geiger counters on the walls.

“The plant is safe to walk through these days, the suit is just part of the safety protocol. But we thank you for your consideration.”

A young blonde staff scientist who looked more like she should be attending a tour than giving one at her age gestured toward a hall on their left.

“That is Reactor One. It isn’t ready for work yet, and we won’t finish taking it offline until at least one of the others is online. With the exception of the cooling water inlets and outlets, the six reactors are completely separated so that they can be operated independently, or taken offline without affecting the rest of the facility.

That was one of the major drawbacks of the early designs, but it was rectified by the time that this facility was rebuilt after the war.

This is what is known as a Plutonium Reactor, or it was until today. The difference in fuels might not matter, but it seems best that I mention it now.” She explained.

Wolfe smiled. “The technicalities make some small differences, but I can see what I need to do. I had thought that this might be one of the so-called Molten Salt Reactors, where the reaction takes places suspended in a fuel solution.”

The young scientist shook her head. “No, we ran out of Thorium a hundred years ago. There are a number of those plants still waiting on an alternate fuel source, but they have been closed for a century, and I am not certain it will be possible to use them again.”

She turned them down a hallway with ever-increasing warnings and safety placards, but with dust in the corners of the room that said it was only minimally maintained, and rarely visited.

“This is Reactor Two. There is a control room for the reactor here, if you would like to look at it.” She offered.

“That would be good. My scans say that you have the fuel rod holder lifted out of the containment right now, and that everything has been cooled with liquid Nitrogen. That seems like it has been properly preserved and maintained, and I don’t see any damages that might become an issue.

But I will have the Witches double check before we do anything else.

Cassie and Ella both used Earth Magic to check the area, and found that while it was aging, and some spots in the concrete underneath needed a bit of their attention, the Finance Minister hadn’t been lying about the fact that it would reasonably be expected to last another century in this condition.

The other Reactors were all in similar condition, and they patched any issues that they found before they gave Wolfe the signal to continue.

“Alright, we will do one Reactor at a time. I will be enchanting nearly every part of the process, so don’t start bringing anything online until I give you the direction.” Wolfe cautioned them.
