Chapter 1008: 1008 Explain To the Demons

Wolfe led the witches out of the room, while they pretended that they weren’t just as amused as he was by the situation. Politics in Gormana seemed to be a shouting festival of chaos, where everyone just put their opinion out in the open as soon as the one with priority stopped speaking, and then they picked the opinion that they wanted to address.

How that made a functional government was a mystery, but they suspected that these voice were only secondary to the process, and that the actual decisions were made without any of their input, except for the rare few who managed to say something that impressed those who had drafted the new plans, or those who were on the committees for the various programs.

The Guardians met Wolfe in an office right behind the large parliament room, where someone had set out coffee and snacks for them.

“Saint Noxus, welcome. I didn’t expect that it would be so easy for them to enlist your aid with our situation, given that this isn’t your territory.” One of the Guardians began.

Wolfe laughed and waved his hand to dismiss the concern. “You’re thinking of things as a Royal or a Politician, this is purely business. Gormana needed power for their factories, the people of the Forest Grove Alliance want their goods. Setting up a deal where I make money off the power plants and the price returns to an affordable level is a win for everyone from a business point of view.”

The Demon smiled. “Well, when you put it that way, it makes sense. But can you really make power at a mana cost that is affordable and sustainable? We did the math on running generators on Lightning or Fire Magic, and it was not cheaper than the current price, where nobody can afford to use it.”

Wolfe nodded. “Arrays are much more efficient than simply triggering a low-level explosion in an internal combustion engine, or charging a generator coil with Lightning Magic. The fact that I can combine multiple elements into the layers makes all the difference, but for the nuclear power plant we’re looking at hundreds of layers of complimentary spells to get the reactor temperature up high enough that the plant comes online.

In essence, all the power plants in the nation are steam plants. Something creates heat, and that heat is transferred as pressurized steam through a turbine to turn the generators and create power. I can make every step of that more efficient with magic, even the force that the steam exerts.

So, a conventional power plant to replace all the extra magic needed for their daily lives is a simple solution to your problem of converting the nation.

Once they have magical power, all you need to do is find a source for all the raw materials that they need.

That’s on you as Guardians, but you can consider the problem halfway solved. Eventually, they will have more magic users, and they will start adding magical devices alongside their technology, but the core power grid is just too simple and efficient to fully replace.

Can you imagine having to make four hundred million fire magic heaters just for buildings and vehicles? Using the existing power grid is a much better alternative than converting.”

The Demons shuddered in horror at the amount of work that it would realistically take just to change the climate control system of the nation.

“Point taken. They aren’t primitive, they just ran out of power. I suppose it’s a bit like entering the tourmaline desert without mana crystals.” One of the Demons agreed.

Wolfe didn’t know where that was or what was different about it, but the other Demons nodded along.

“Oh, right. The Tourmaline Desert is, as you might have guessed, made entirely of tourmaline crystals, which are highly mana receptive. They’re great for making magical items, but when you have an entire desert full of them, they soak up mana from any source you can think of.

Even standing there will slowly drain your mana cores if you’re under Rank Four, when you have the power to block the effect. So, you need to bring mana crystals to cast spells, as there is no ambient mana.

It’s deadly for many magical creatures, and a haven for brigands, criminals and fugitives of all sorts, who are afraid of law enforcement or assassins coming after them.” A Wrathbringer Guardian explained.

He was speaking to Wolfe, but mostly looking at Risa with a bit of longing in his gaze.

He was on the low side of Rank Five, considered weak for his species, and she was shooting up through Rank Six at a much younger age.

The Wrathbringers valued power as much as beauty, and in the eyes of their species, she had both. The fact that she had been born a Pygmy, at only two and a half metres tall instead of five, was the Wrathbringer equivalent of smol and cute, despite the hulking muscles.

“Should we accompany you? We have the access codes for the reactor complex.” One of the Guardians suggested.

She was one of the so-called Ancient Demons, the ones that looked mostly human, with horns and in her case, also cloven hooves.

“That would be wonderful. We could get it done while they argue, then send a message back that the first stop is complete. Tell me, are any of you afraid of heights? Because I have a particularly effective flight magic that will save us hours of travel time.” Wolfe asked.

In response, most of them spread their wings a little, while the others shook their heads.

“Wonderful. Is there an upper balcony? That’s usually the best place to use.” Wolfe asked.

“There is a helipad on the roof. We can just leave from there.” One of the Demons laughed.

Right, human nations are used to that sort of technology, so they have built to incorporate it into their government buildings.

It felt a bit like a grand escape, with the way that they hurried through the halls before the meetings let out and someone could bother them, but they only had to make it to the stairs, as the Elevators weren’t large enough for some of the Demons.

“Stupid human architecture. We will have to renovate eventually, but we’re holding off until they have a better opinion of us, and not just as something they tolerate as necessary.” The big Wrathbringer grumbled.

“It’s only been a few months. Give it a few years of them seeing the good the Guardians do, and almost everyone should be on board. Even though they don’t live as long, humans are just as resistant to change as the Demons are.” Cassie agreed.
