Chapter 1022: 1022 I Did The Math

After a quick goodbye to the Prime Minister and a few others, Wolfe led the delegations from Rencland and Kanheim into a side room where meetings could be held.

“Give me a second, I’ve only done this a couple of times.” Wolfe informed them as he focused on forming a Portal.

It was so much easier to just ask someone who had it as a natural ability that he didn’t even bother using the device he had obtained most of the time, much less spending the effort to practice casting it on his own.

He really should, though.

It was useful for many more things than picking up King Petros, and the spell to move around the planet wasn’t the same one as the interplanetary portal.

“Now that’s just cheating. I thought that you flew around the continent.” The Kanheim Representative gasped.

“Normally, we do. But this is a special occasion, and I don’t want to be stuck at that party until three in the morning.

If anyone from Gormana wants to come back to see us, they will have to fly. We have a shuttle from the airport, so it’s not a big issue, even if they use a large military plane.” Wolfe explained.

“You have an airport? Whatever for? We saw the video of you flying.” The Rencland representative’s assistant asked.

“That’s me. Most of the world can’t fly like that, and if you’re taking passengers on a long trip, it’s more comfortable for them to sit.

The only issue we have is that you need magic users with some power to operate the modified cargo planes that we use.

They burn a lot of mana, and if you’re going to fly further than their range, or do a round trip, you need someone to refuel them with mana.

That will be possible for your nations once there are mages trained at an Academy, but for most things that don’t fly, it is easier to use spells to charge batteries. That way they can be charged from an outlet, or by a mage when you’re away from civilization.”

“Are there mages here already? Locally trained human mages, that is.” The Kanheim representative asked.

Wolfe looked through the portal, and saw that it was getting dark, but there were plenty of people moving around.

“There should still be some awake. The best age to train them is right around their eighteenth birthday, or a few years earlier. So, as it’s already getting late in the evening, many of the younger ones will be in bed.” Wolfe explained.

Wolfe led them through the portal and into the park, which was one of the few calm places in the days leading up to a festival.

Everything else was packed with people, and Wolfe could see four other portals active right now, two of which led to the Fallen Empire.

They had been opened for merchants to come back and forth, getting set up and stocking their shops, as well as the students and craftsmen who were moving to the city.

Watching the wagons coming out of portals alongside the road, and the crowds of people so late at night, as they hadn’t realized that there was a three-hour time difference between Gormana and Forest Grove, the representatives were shocked.

“What about her? The girl in the hood, flying around with a bag of something?” One of the assistants asked.

“That one is actually a witch. Half-blooded, which is likely why you didn’t recognize her as one right away. But over there, working the hot dog stand, he’s one of the students.” Wolfe replied.

They walked over, and the representative gave Wolfe a concerned look. “Is it normal for students to be working so late on a weeknight? Or are there no classes tomorrow?”

The vendor laughed as he overheard the question.

“Actually, we don’t have classes tomorrow because it’s the first day of the monthly Festival, and we’ve got so many new people coming into the city. It’s move in day for the Fallen Empire workers and the new students, you see.

But it’s only a bit after eight. I end my shift at nine, and then one of the adults will work the night shift.” The boy explained, then gestured to his tray of toppings for the hotdogs, tempting the group.

“How about it? They’re a not so local delicacy. Chili cheese dogs. I believe they originated with the merchants from Myrrh Coven, but they’ve gotten quite popular. I like them with extra onion and mustard.” Wolfe suggested.

The thought of putting mustard on a chili dog horrified a few of the others, but Wolfe didn’t care. It was good.

When they had first been sold, he put hot sauce on them as well, but the Forest Grove version was spicier now than they had been when they came from Myrrh Coven.

“In that case, we will try whatever your bestseller is. Are they spicy? Rencland likes things extra spicy, but I’ve got ulcers.” The Kanheim representative asked.

The boy nodded and used an air spell to open the grill to finish some of the boiled hotdogs. Fire magic made it flare, and the humans watched, transfixed. He was really using magic, just casually using magic in his daily life.

“How about I make a group of our regular chili cheese, and a group of cheese dogs with no chili or peppers, and then Miss Ella’s favourite, with just corn relish and hot sauce.” He suggested.

“We will eat them for certain. We have been stuck at a high society party in Gormana all night, and it’s exhausting.” Wolfe replied.

“What about drinks? We’ve got soda, Dwarven Ale, Elven wine, bottled beer, or water.”

“Wine with hot dogs?” The Kanheim representative asked.

“It’s popular with the veggie dog special. That one has a savoury mushroom base, and it’s got berries in it. The humans usually treat it as breakfast food, but many of the Fae like it all day.” The vendor boy explained.

The representative shook his head. “This place really is something else entirely. I might have to try that tomorrow. What hours is the stall open?”

The boy laughed. “We’re in the central market. The food vendors don’t close. There are enough night people here that we just stay open, especially during the festival. In fact, starting tomorrow, most of the city’s markets will be open constantly for the next week.”

“One week of every month?” The representative asked in shock.

“Yeah, it seems excessive, but the number of people who come from other countries and other planets has increased to the point that four times a year plus monthly long weekends wasn’t enough. Who knows, soon we might have to keep all the markets open all the time.”
