Chapter 1026: 1026 Visiting Hours

“It looks like you are adjusting well. Would you say that the other students are getting along well? Nobody is getting bullied?” Petros asked the beastkin student.

Kesteros nodded. “No bullying anymore. There was one, but they made us stop after she apologized for making fun of bunny ears. The bunnies really love Mister Wolfe, you should go see them.”

She really did look like an excited puppy, despite being close to Wolfe’s own age.

“Oh, is there a particular reason that Saint Noxus is so popular with the Bunnies?” King Petros asked.

The girl blushed and stammered, realizing that she had gotten to a question she didn’t want to answer.

“Uhm, well, it’s like this you see… There is a fan fiction, with Mister Wolfe and a Bunny, well, a bunch of Bunnies… and um…”

King Petros began to laugh. “And the entire student body has read it and ships the big bad Wolfe with the gentle and innocent Bunny?”

Kesteros gasped and pointed at the King. “Your Majesty, you have read it as well?”

Petros laughed and shook his head. “No, but I’m not a young man, I’ve seen more than a few of them make the rounds in the past. It’s an honour for him to be so popular with the students. It’s far better than being written as the villain.”

The student looked like she would prefer to run away at this point, but decorum stated that she couldn’t turn her back on the King without his permission to leave, so she was a bit stuck.

Wolfe gestured to the street ahead of them. “Why don’t you join us on our walk to the Academy? You can fill us in on how things are going for the students, and then we will meet some of your classmates so we can be certain that they really have solved the bullying issue.”

“Yes, Sir. Oh, there is one. Jenna, come say hello to Mister Wolfe.” She called out, and one of the Bunnies came jogging over, blushing a deep crimson at being called out in public.

Then she noticed King Petros, and almost fell to the floor with a deep bow.

“You may rise. While you are here, we will follow the local customs, and there is no need to kneel as a Royal passes.” Petros spoke softly, so he was heard, but his voice didn’t carry.

Wolfe gave him a curious look.

“She came from my staff, and her father was caught trying to pawn a golden statue from the house, so his entire family is under punishment as criminals.” Petros explained.

“His whole family?” Wolfe asked.

Petros nodded. “There are two customary penalties for grand theft by a commoner. Execution, or ten years of shame on their family. Minor theft would result in the removal of the offending hand.

Needless to say, thievery among household staff is incredibly uncommon.

It seemed too cruel to leave the children without a parent, as their mother was heavily pregnant, so they were punished, and he was demoted to mucking out the pigs and prohibited from the main house.

But she showed promise as a mage, so I chose her to join the group.”

Wolfe was startled that he would pick someone who was under punishment and likely bore a grudge against him personally to join the Academy team, but King Petros was an odd person that way. He had his prejudices, but they were inconsistent, and seemed to be applied at a whim based on personal experience instead of ingrained social standards.

Jenna nodded. “I am grateful for the chance, Your Majesty. I have already begun showing promise here as well. I can create water.”

She held out her hand, and her face bunched up as her ears wiggled, followed by her backside, and then finally, a gentle spray of water came from her hand to sprinkle over the flowers along the roadside.

It was the lowest form of creating water, the sort that Wolfe had seen in the first month at the Witches’ Academy, but many of them hadn’t managed that much in the first two weeks, even with a Familiar.

“Good work, Miss Jenna. You are indeed showing promise.” Wolfe informed her, while the Bunny beamed with pride.

King Petros nodded. “I have made a fine choice in you, and I believe that you deserve a reward. Your mother and sisters will be taken off punishment detail as of today. Once you finish the year as a Rank One or greater Mage, your brothers will be as well.”

Jenna nearly hugged him, then remembered her lessons on Decorum, which made King Petros chuckle at her hesitation. Wolfe didn’t hold back, though, and pulled the bunny into a celebratory hug, before giving her a spin and setting her back on her feet.

Jenna blushed, giggled, and then promptly ran away, leaving King Petros laughing and Kesteros looking nervous.

“Relax, he’s here on official business, but as a concerned citizen looking out for his people, not as a King overseeing his subjects.” Wolfe informed the floppy eared beastkin.

She nodded reluctantly, and began to lead them to the dorms, where the students had begun to gather on the lawn, chatting about the new students who were coming, and how they would arrange them.

From the chatter, it sounded like the Dorm Mothers, as they called the Witches who were supervising them, had put them individually in rooms meant for two. So, they would all gain a new roommate today, when the rest of the students showed up.

There were far more of them starting today than there were in the first group, so not everyone would get an experienced roommate, but they had brought in more Witches to keep order.

Wolfe recognized the dark hair and eyes, with the dusky almond skin tone as being citizens of Sylvan Coven, and while they were all Rank One Witches, they were getting close to Rank Two after living here for just a few weeks.

But more importantly, Wolfe didn’t see any of them under fifty years old, so they likely all had grandchildren of their own, and plenty of experience with excited teens.
