Chapter 1042: 1042 Saints

As the fog cleared from the city of Forest Grove, and the mana levels began to return to normal, the citizens began to recover from the day’s events, and that led directly to chaos as everyone searched for answers.

Before it got out of hand, Wolfe made his way to the stage and activated the microphone, whose mana crystal showed 110% charge.

[Attention residents of Forest Grove, visitors and guests. What you have just experienced is a once-in-a-lifetime event. The fifteen witches and Demons of the first three Pentacles have advanced to the exalted status of Saints and Overlords.

The fog that overcame the city was an excess of mana from fifteen such advancements occurring in the same place and time.

It should not have caused any lingering damage, but everyone with children or latent magical abilities should take some time to get checked, as the surge might have awakened dormant powers.

For our resident magic users, Fae and Demons, you will likely notice an increase in your power level. This increase should be a permanent boost, and is not known to fade with time.

Today’s event was an unexpected one, a chain reaction after one of the members advanced. That was not a reaction we had foreseen, and we do apologize for any distress that this might have caused.

Mana levels are now returning to normal, but if you feel any lingering negative effects, please proceed immediately to the healers located at the five main market districts, as well as the spire and the healers’ hut on the road from the main gates.]

His voice seemed to calm the crowd and assure them that this was handled, that they were not under attack or in immediate danger. They were still overwhelmed by the mana surge, but they weren’t injured, except a few who had fallen or knocked over items when caught by surprise.

There were a few burns in the food cart sections, but nothing major, as the influx wasn’t so sudden that most of them couldn’t get comfortably seated before it became unbearable, it was only the few who tried to power through who ended up in trouble.

Even the ones advancing hadn’t been able to easily stand that power influx, so it was just Wolfe and the other Saint Rank or higher locals who could deal with the situation while it was in progress.

Wolfe could feel all of the individual Saints in the town, fifteen new points of power, perfectly attuned with nature on a level that not even the Fae were, as their nature magic was not of this world.

He had never gotten to see a Witch Saint actually using their magic for the good of the people, or even at its full output, as the last two Witch Saints had been fading fast when they came after him, and they hadn’t been able to use even half of their potential power.

But most of the Saints here weren’t even twenty yet. They had been dragged up the ranks so fast that they didn’t have the time to get the matronly years on them that were normally associated with Saints.

The Witches weren’t as long-lived as most of the Fae and Demons, so making it to Saint Rank before they reached old age was extremely uncommon.

There was so much to celebrate today that most of the residents weren’t certain where to start.

Unless they were particularly close with one of the Pentacle members, there was no clear sign who to congratulate first, and nobody outside that group knew that there were ten new Pentacle members, not even the other twenty candidates.

However, Wolfe could sense something rather interesting. A few of the Elders of the Noxus Family from Morgana Fortress were here today, running a stall at the market selling Morgana Coven charms and trinkets.

They had also been force-fed mana during the process, and both of them were just beginning to form their third mana core now.

No longer was there only one functional Magi over Rank One in the world. There might actually be others who had Magi blood and awakened latent powers or formed mana cores during the event, but the two Elders already had some magical talents before today, and were well known to the Witches for their work to heal the nerve gas damaged soldiers after the winter invasion.

“Saint Wolfe.” A gentle voice called out from somewhere near his feet as Wolfe got down from the stage.

There was a bunny girl hiding under the stage, so Wolfe reached down to help her to her feet and dust her off.

“Are you alright? I’m sure this was quite the shock for you.” He started, then realized that there was something odd about this particular bunny.

She gave off the aura of a magic user, which was not unexpected, but it wasn’t the same as the Academy students, she had a Witch’s aura.

The bunny nodded, and pointed to her arm, where the sleeve had a bit of blood on it. It looked fine, but it must have been injured.

“Did you heal that yourself?” Wolfe asked, wondering if that was what had her freaked out.

She nodded with wide eyes, silently pleading for answers.

“The surge of mana activated your dormant magical potential, and as it turns out the strongest potential that you had was a bit of Witch blood, not the human blood that lets most people learn magic in the new style.

We will have to start getting newly awakened people into classes this week, before anyone accidentally hurts themselves.” Wolfe explained.

She didn’t look any less confused.

“I’m a witch?” She asked slowly.

“Well, you have Witch powers, as far as I can tell. You healed yourself, so with some training, you will be able to do it reliably and on purpose.” Wolfe explained.

There was a sigh behind him, and one of the women Wolfe vaguely recognized from the Witch school came up to check on the bunny.

“Another one? I’m grateful for the power boost from the new Saints’ breakthrough and all, but did they have to do it here?” She asked as she checked the girl and dusted her off to make sure there were no more hidden injuries.

“Risa broke through first, and she was in the middle of a sparring match. It was sudden, and that just dragged everyone else along with it in a chain reaction. If we had any warning, we could have left the city the same way that I did to advance.” Wolfe explained.

“Oh, that makes sense. I thought it was some sort of ritual thing that got out of hand.” The teacher explained.

Wolfe shook his head. “Nope. And I can assure you that nobody was more shocked than the Candidates that we had shadowing the Pentacle members.”
