Chapter 1052: 1052 Training Grounds
King Petros looked intrigued. “So, you’re saying that you might have an entire continent that not only turns out advanced magical technologies, but skilled technicians and household servants? Basically, everything that the Fallen Empire is short on?”
Wolfe nodded in agreement. “But with enough Saints around to repel a main battle force in a matter of seconds, even if they made it past the trial grounds.
I think that it’s both a reasonably safe and mutually beneficial arrangement.
Once the mages start to spread to the villages, we will have dozens of outposts training our residents. With that base established, we will be able to turn out thousands of trained workers every year. They are ones who are already migrating to fill gaps in skills, so as long as they are replaced, either with incoming beastkin, or with reproduction, it shouldn’t be an issue to send quite a few of them off world for work.”
Petros sighed. “Alright, I will admit that your plan has merits, even if I can seed it making your world fabulously wealthy at the expense of every other world you are allied with.”
Wolfe shrugged. “If it’s not going to benefit the people, what’s the point, right? If they can send money home and help their less talented or less fortunate kin, everyone benefits. Plus, they will come home with connections if they sign a term of service contract.
I know that a lot of the Nobles are actually after eye candy as much as they are after actual servants. Having a good-looking household staff is a point of pride for them, so they replace them long before they get to middle age.”
While Wolfe had a point, magic users aged more slowly, so it could be decades before they aged out of household service and the Nobles started looking for younger faces to take their places. But by that time, they would be so valuable to the household that they would almost certainly be offered a higher position, and not dismissed.
King Petros thought that Wolfe might not be getting as many of his beastkin back as he had expected, while Wolfe was thinking that reducing the Bunny childhood mortality rate from the 80 percent that they suffered in the wild to nearly zero was going to leave the world drowning in Bunnies if he didn’t find a way to spread them out.
They couldn’t help it. They grew up in a third the time as other species, and had both multiple children at a time, and a reduced gestation period.
They both thought that they were getting the better end of this deal, and they were both willing to go along with it, as long as they could do it without causing chaos among their own people.
Trying to force the transfer would be a disaster, and implementing it too quickly would cause even more issues, as the other nations on Wolfe’s continent still needed more mages for their transition from conventional to magical technology.
After a few minutes of silence as they both considered the future, Petros sighed and nodded. “Alright, I won’t give you trouble about the Mages, but I will be expecting assistance in the future when we need help with new Elemental spells, assuming that we can’t get them from the Mages who remained in that world.”
Wolfe nodded. “That is fine. It won’t be long before I have proper Magi Family members again, who can make use of at least some of the Inheritance. They will be valuable teachers of magical knowledge once they have access to the legacy knowledge of the Noxus Family.”
King Petros perked up at that mention. “You think you can recover some of the Noxus Legacy?”
Wolfe nodded. “That’s where I’m going after the celebration of the new Saints. All three of the existing Pentacles advanced at once. That’s what started this whole chain of events.”
Petros nodded. “I can see how that will be an issue. It’s a shame that the last two weren’t ready.”
Wolfe shrugged. “I created them in a hurry. The humans are behind, as none of them had awakened yet, but the new Fae Pentacle is progressing quickly. Give it a few years and they will all be Saints anyhow.
But that just means that we need to work harder on their training. The Academies are normally four years, but they will all be Saints by then.
It would be a bit embarrassing to be celebrating Saints that haven’t finished their basic training.”
“Who did you pick from among my people? I can send someone for the others if you like.” Petros asked.
“Serra, Lucy, Jessica, Francisca and Melanie are our new human Pentacle members. The Fae Pentacles got a light and dark Elf, a dwarf, a nymph and a Faerie.” Wolfe replied.
“A dark Elf? Are you certain that is a good idea? They’re known to be rather bloodthirsty.” Petros asked.
“That’s precisely why it’s a good idea. Not everything needs a gentle touch. Sometimes you have to remind people that the terms are actually agree or die, and that they are being informed, not negotiated with.” Wolfe chuckled.
Petros’ smile matched Wolfe’s. He understood those terms very well.
“Alright, I will look forward to the good news after you finish your search for historical relics. Do you think that there might really be more Magi left in your world?” Petros asked.
“Not a lot of them, and definitely not pure blooded, but there should be at least a few more who have enough Magi blood to inherit at the legacy of their Families if we can find an Inheritance Stone to grant it to them.
If not, some of them can be gifted the generic version without Family-specific spells and programming, which will pass down to their offspring with the gift. It would be like starting a Family from scratch, but it would keep the Inheritance alive.” Wolfe explained.
Petros stood up and shook Wolfe’s hand. “I won’t keep you any longer. You have enough to do without any more distractions. But do keep me informed if there are more Magi Families formed.
That would certainly be an event worth celebrating.”
