Chapter 1053: 1053 Party Ain’t A Party
Once he was done speaking with King Petros, Wolfe quickly returned to Forest Grove, ready to face the building chaos of a celebration party for the Saints.
However, what he found was a lot of tense anticipation and new mages flocking through the city, seeing the sights and meeting new people.
“What’s the holdup? I thought that the party would be in full swing by now.” Wolfe asked the clerk at the first stall he passed.
“We’re waiting for you to return and take the stage with your Pentacles. They said that it wasn’t appropriate to start the party while you were still working, and it’s early, so we’re just meeting the new people.
You didn’t get in trouble for taking them, did you? It’s not exactly a secret that they were considered enemies of the Fallen Empire, and you were meeting with King Petros.”
Wolfe laughed and shook his head. “Nothing I couldn’t handle. He’s mad about the lost knowledge, but he’s not going to do anything drastic because we’re hiring them as teachers, so the people he sends here can still learn the skills that he wanted.”
“Oh, that is great news. There is a rumour that some of them want to go see the villages as well, to work as teachers.
I swear, they’re as bad as Mary. They’re just obsessed with the beastkin.” The clerk laughed.
Wolfe chuckled. “Their people are always kind of stressed out and grumpy. But the people here are so friendly that it’s inevitable that they would be enamoured with our lifestyle. But they will calm down after a day or two. They always do.”
Wolfe left the clerk to his customers and headed for the stage, where he could sense most of the witches gathered. The bodyguards were already on their way over to him, but the Witches were surrounded and answering questions, receiving congratulations and meeting the visitors who they hadn’t seen before.
Being the festival, there were people from all over the two worlds in Forest Grove today, and most of the visitors had to change plans to remain longer so they could get their newfound magic under control.
The visitors from the Fallen Empire were already magic users, but the ones from the Covens, Grand Dutchies and Gormana were not.
That made this event especially valuable to the Grand Dutchies visitors, as they didn’t have a great relationship with Forest Grove and were initially here mostly to make connections and try to mend hard feelings so they could have a greater presence in the future.
But now, they had dozens of magic users, which were virtually unheard of in the nation before last winter.
Some of the One World Army’s witches had stayed with them, though not many. They didn’t know Elemental Magic, though, so the amenities here were all new to them, and the diplomats were eager to make a deal.
The real issue was that with so many new Saints, they didn’t know who to suck up to. If there were just one, you go to the most powerful. But Wolfe Noxus had been gone all day, and the Witches tended to hold a grudge.
Especially the Sylvan Witches.
Then they spotted the man everyone had been waiting for. Wolfe had come into sight just as Risa and the twins fell into formation around him, escorting him to the stage.
“Saint Noxus, welcome back.” Dozens of voices called out at the same time.
Wolfe replied with a wave and without slowing his progress toward the Witches, who were eagerly awaiting his arrival.
“Well, how did it go?” Cassie asked.
“Better than expected. Petros is mad about us taking the last of the libraries, as the mages burned the rest of them during the war. But he calmed down pretty quickly when he realized he could still send people here to get trained or hire the local graduates.
It should help us with our population explosion as well. With nothing hunting them, we will have an influx of new residents of the Frozen Wastes over the next few years, and they can all be trained to take jobs as mages off-world.
They might be commoner mages by the logic of the Fallen Empire, but it would be high paying, and they wouldn’t have to worry about unemployment.”
Cassie smiled. “I’m glad you’re thinking ahead. But we have more news for you that we will announce at the end of the advancement speeches.
Tonight is also a full moon, where the sun and moon will both be up at the same time, so we will be doing a Familiar Summoning, and the Fae suggest that the new Saints join in and add to our menagerie of Familiars.”
Wolfe looked down to the edge of the stage, where Ember and Pup were napping in the shade. There were countless tame animals wandering the city already, and Wolfe could only imagine how it was going to be when every Witch had a chance to summon another.
They had almost all advanced today, after all.
Ella nodded in agreement and smirked at Wolfe. “We think we know a way to extend the circle’s effects to cover the entire city, using the existing boundary lines, so we can all do it at once at the perfect moment.
It’s going to be spectacular, though there are some concerns that we might all end up summoning very similar familiars.”
“Then let’s hope they’re Faeries, not giant bears.” Wolfe joked.
A few of the witches groaned at the thought of thousands more Faeries flying around the city. It would be a level of chaos far beyond today’s advancement, as the inquisitive creatures tried to learn everything that there was to know about the city and colluded with the existing population to come up with fun new things to do.
Cassie and Ella took Wolfe’s hands and led him up onto the stage, where a congratulatory banner had been set up for the new Saints, and most of the others had already gathered.
“Let’s get this started.” Wolfe muttered as he realized that the entire population was now staring at them, while the Witches were clearly hiding something from him.
