Chapter 1118: 1118 First Guests
While they were discussing what King Leandro might bring as a Coronation gift, and whether it would contain an aphrodisiac, the sensation of a portal opening caught Wolfe’s attention, just before the polite chime requesting entry sounded in the courtyard.
“I should answer that.” He sighed.
“I will go update the time on the kitchen whiteboard.” Cassie agreed.
Wolfe used a portal to get to the courtyard, where the travel circles for long-distance guests were organized.
It was easier to put them out in the open, far from the main keep, as some would be arriving with loads of goods, or with larger species that would make being inside impractical.
This arrival was the second sort. Queen Jasmine of the Wrath Demons arrived with King Memo of Sodom and Queen Elizabeth of Gomor, where Wolfe had spent most of his time in the Demon Realm.
While Elizabeth was on the smaller side for a Demon Queen, Memo and Jasmine were both giants, and they had brought retainers pulling some sort of chest on wheels.
Wolfe knew that many of the gifts would be over the top and luxurious, but the Demons would know that the Magi didn’t actually have much use for fancy things. Instead, as King Leandro was planning, it was better to bring them something unique and interesting instead of a load of gold and jewels as you might send to a nonmagical kingdom.
“Welcome everyone. It’s a pleasure to see you here for the Coronation event.” Wolfe greeted them.
“King Noxus, it’s a pleasure as always. I hope you don’t mind the early arrival, we wanted to show off a bit before everyone else was here. You see, we have been working together on this project, and I think that it might just be worthy of being called unique in all the worlds.” Queen Jasmine replied.
That was a strong statement. There were countless worlds that Wolfe knew of, though he had only learned of many of them at his advancement to King Rank, but the Demon Realms surely knew of them all.
The large golden box on wheels was rolled to the middle of an open lawn, and the lid was opened.
The interior unfolded to create a beautiful golden building, assembled with magic, and Wolfe gave them a curious smile.
“Now I know that this isn’t just the coolest tent that I’ve ever seen.” He joked.
The Queen of the Wrath Demons laughed. “Well, I suppose it is that as well. But no, the real treat is inside.”
She gestured towards the door with a grand gesture, and the King of Magic hopped out of the building with a flourish.
“Tada!”
Wolfe burst out laughing, while the Wrath Queen began to hurl swords at her feathered counterpart.
“How did you even get here to mess up the grand reveal?” She demanded.
“I was inside, of course. I sneaked in while you were testing it and made some refinements.”
King Memo sighed as the old friends argued and motioned for Wolfe to enter the building.
Wolfe stepped inside and found himself looking at the inside of a grand palace, larger than the castle that they had entered from.
“We managed to isolate a usable section of spatial magic, an expansion array. If you wanted a space the size of a house, you could have it in a package the size of a book.
But this looked much more impressive, and fit for a coronation gift.
The array is inscribed here, in the expanded space, and… what is all this?”
The Magic King stepped in behind them, followed by the two Queens.
“I made a copy of the entire Magi repository that was left in my Kingdom, and added a memory crystal from the Tardix Family. Well, a copy of it, anyhow. It is a training crystal for Spatial Magic, one of a kind and priceless.
We didn’t even know that we had it, they had hidden it in the binding of one of the books, within an expanded space. It was only pure dumb luck that someone dropped the ancient manuscript and I sensed the disruption of the spell.
The Tardix Family was wiped out tens of thousands of years ago, and it’s been at least a thousand since I heard of anyone who knew their specialty.
But, they made you a most wonderful tent out of it, and I managed to duplicate the training crystal.” The feathered King announced.
Wolfe looked around in awe.
“I don’t think that anyone could top this. You brought me a lost magic that not even the library at the Noxus Family home contains. This truly is a priceless gift, and I can see why you brought it so early.”
Wolfe focused on the Array on the floor, memorizing the layout to add it to the spells in his Inheritance.
He would need to use the training crystal to see if he was at all compatible with the magic, but at the very least, he knew how this spell was supposed to be cast. There weren’t many spells that a King Ranked Magi couldn’t accomplish, even if they had no affinity for the magic.
They could manipulate the mana around them with enough precision to emulate crude proficiency, which is what the Demon Monarchs had done to make this building. Anything more intricate than simply expanding a set space might be beyond them all, but now there was hope that they could bring a lost magic back to the world.
“Why don’t we lock this up and go get some lunch before I give in to temptation and get lost in the memory crystal?” Wolfe asked.
Compared to the crude storage bags, which used magical beast materials, expanding space with an array felt somehow purer to Wolfe, not to mention that it was hundreds of times more efficient.
“Yes, of course. We can close it up when we leave, and move the cart to your vault.” Queen Jasmine suggested.
They moved outside, and she tapped at the front of the building, showing Wolfe how to operate the built-in failsafe, so nobody got trapped inside without the ability to open it themselves.
“Now, did someone mention snacks? I brought a most wonderful carrot cake.” The Magic King informed them with a laugh, as he produced the cake in question from storage.
“I will call the ladies.”
