Whoosh!
Watching the bullet he prepared leave the barrel, Valyr felt a hint of trepidation as he heard a slight sound come out of it.
Fortunately, with Harold having already made sure that the sound of the shot would also be masked beforehand, none of the guards were alerted to their presence, allowing the young man and the others to focus their attention on the bullet.
’We’ve definitely got this in the bag,’ thought Valyr to himself as he began to feel as if the world around him began to move in slow motion, allowing him to briefly go over all of the skills he used for the shot in his mind.
Naturally, the usual buffs were included in that list, such as [Limit Break: Second Verse], [First Encore], [Rage of the True Wyvern], [Refined Offense Aura], and so on.
With that, it also went without saying that he activated his strongest Intent, as well as applied the intricacies of the Truth Weaver Scripture to it in order to further improve its effects.
Although he did not make use of his ultimate skills like [Descent of the True Wyvern] to bolster the shot’s lethality, he was able to somewhat compensate for that by having Vera buff him with Mystic Energy, only to then also buff himself with his own Mystic Energy.
Considering the fact that a single shot of his arquebus was more than enough to render an early Myth-level monster with over a million HP dead, Valyr was more than confident that his shot packed enough firepower to kill the Grand Chieftain ten times over.
Yet, as if the heavens felt that it was unfair for the young man to achieve his goals that easily, a faint blue barrier appeared in the trajectory of Valyr’s shot all of a sudden, causing the strength contained within it to instead disperse far away from where the Grand Chieftain was.
Of course, included in that dispersion was the sound its collision made."…!" Hastily conjuring a barrier around the area where the bullet exploded to muffle its sound, Valyr watched as Harold hastily applied barriers of his own on it, sending out spell after spell without hesitation to muffle the remaining sound his barrier couldn’t.
"Well…" Faintly letting out a sigh after seeing that the guards weren’t alerted to their actions, the young man soon turned around to look at the others as he scratched the back of his head.
"Looks like killing the Grand Chieftain is gonna be a bit more difficult than we initially thought."
"Honestly, we should’ve probably expected something like this to happen," wrote Hal in response to Valyr’s message in the group chat. "After all, even our high-ranking officials have been deemed targets for assassination by the opposing races."
"With that, it’s not really that much of a surprise that they’d have a barrier or two surrounding them while they’re at their most vulnerable moment."
"Well, that answers the question as to why the other War Squads have been biding their time," wrote Vera after that, to which the others faintly nodded in agreement.
"They’re waiting for the exact moment the barrier around the Grand Chieftain is disabled."
"Would it be possible to dispel the barrier around the Grand Chieftain before then?" asked Valyr. "After all, we’d be fighting against the other War Squads on who would be the squad to kill him if we were to bide our time."
"Plus, if you think about it even further, us fighting over that position just means there’s a chance the tables are turned on us and they kill us instead."
"Unfortunately, I don’t know much about dispelling barriers," answered Hal through the group chat as he bitterly smiled. "Though, judging from how it was easily able to nullify your shot, I’d presume the barrier is being powered by an energy construct."
"Is it?" Valyr raised his eyebrow at that question, only to then ponder over the information.
With the gears in his mind working on overdrive, the young man soon had an idea that might allow them to salvage their current situation.
"Say, Nerissa. Would it be possible for you to enter the tent and check if the barrier is actually coming from an energy construct?"
"I could," replied Nerissa after looking at the window for a brief moment. "Why?"
"Well…" In response, Valyr went ahead and explained his new plan to the others through the group chat, causing both Harold and Nerissa to look at him with wide eyes and briefly wonder if he was suicidal.
However…
"It might just work…" murmured Hal to himself, only to catch himself doing it before writing it through the group chat. "But that means you’ll be putting yourself in great danger, Ylvar. Are you sure you wanna take the risk?"
"For the sake of getting fully supported by the military, I feel like it’s a good trade," replied Valyr as he let out a soft chuckle. "Plus, it’s not like this is the first time I’ve dealt with Myth-level beings before."
Hearing those words, both Hal and Vera wryly smiled at the young man, while Harold and Nerissa looked at each other in confusion, only to realize what Valyr meant by that.
"Wait… are you… that Ylvar back at the tournament?" asked Harold after some time, his eyes glistening as he looked at the young man.
"If you’re talking about the one that forced all of us to participate, then that would indeed be me," replied the young man with a faint nod, only to then notice that the demeanor of the two subtly changed because of it.
"I’ll go ahead and check now," said Nerissa, her expression betraying her attempts at hiding the excitement she felt from working together with a renowned figure.
Fortunately, that did not stop her from doing her job perfectly, deftly making use of her stealth skills to quickly survey the insides of the tent.
Whoosh!
"The barrier is indeed powered by constructs," sent Nerissa to the group chat after quickly scouting the Grand Chieftain’s tent. "From what I could tell, there are four small pillars making up the barrier that blocked your attack earlier."
"Could you mark down where they are?" asked Valyr in response, to which the woman replied by making use of a skill that allow those pillars to be more visible from their vantage point.
Thanking her through the group chat after that, the young man went ahead and stepped forward once more as he prepared his arquebus for another shot.
"[Superior Analysis]." Wanting to really make sure that the Grand Chieftain would die from his attack after dispelling the barrier that protected him earlier, Valyr went ahead and identified the man’s stats.

"Definitely more than enough." Confirming that his attack was more than capable of killing the Grand Chieftain in one shot, Valyr faintly nodded as he activated [Extended Charge] on his arquebus yet again.
Whoosh!
At the same time, he went ahead and conjured a few energy bolts, imbuing all of them with the property of [Traceless] as he aimed to end all of it before any massive problems arose.
"…Alright." With the arquebus charged to its utmost limit yet again, the young man slowly took a calming breath as he directed the energy bolts to strike a pillar each.
Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
Considering how his stats were around twice as high as they normally were, it went without saying that the bolts were able to destroy the four pillars with ease, disabling the barrier that had been protecting the Grand Chieftain from any ambushes.
"Mn…?" However, that also meant that the Grand Chieftain had been alerted to the barrier breaking, forcing the orc to escape from its slumber as it looked around for the assailant that aimed to take his life.
Yet, before he could even figure out where the assailant was…
