Chapter 1569: Moment of Truth
“…It’s really giving me no choice, huh?”
Muttering these words to himself, Valyr went ahead and closed the screen as he pondered over the quest in a bit more detail.
With all things considered, the quest wasn’t all that different from the plan that he had in mind, especially now that both he and Ryvrthe had confirmed that they could generate electricity.
Making full use of the plot he’d bought, as well as the plot of land given to him by Algerie Kingdom, Valyr would have the Forsaken race slowly leave the inheritance and establish themselves in it.
Then, utilizing both the Forsaken race, as well as the electricity that they could now begin to harness, they would slowly expand and develop a city that would eventually be recognized throughout Veldanyr.
Of course, the young man didn’t plan on the city to be recognized because of the people that lived in it.
Instead, he wanted the city to be known as the most technologically advanced city to ever exist on the planet.
With the passage of time, Valyr was certain that everyone on Veldanyr would become curious towards the city sooner or later, which would make spreading the existence of electricity to the masses incredibly simple.
However, with the objectives that the quest had given him, the young man realized that he would have to change a couple of things to this plan of his, especially if he were to consider the two objectives he had in mind.
’Not only would I need to make three powered items and show them to the masses, but I’d also have to convince a thousand people why technology is superior to magic,’ thought Valyr to himself, feeling a slight headache the more he thought about it.
Though, rather than ponder over those objectives a bit more, the young man decided to leave them be for now, believing that he would complete all of the quest objectives sooner or later.
“What were you checking?” Seeing the expression on Valyr’s face undergo a myriad number of changes the past couple of minutes, Ryvrthe could not help but be curious of what caused it.
“Notifications,” replied Valyr, deciding to share a bit of the information with the man. “Specifically, notifications involving electricity.”
“…Huh.” Listening to the young man’s explanation, Ryvrthe faintly nodded in understanding. “A title and a quest that both involves electricity, huh?”
“I still haven’t checked what the title does, but the quest isn’t all that difficult,” said Valyr as he nodded. “The only problem would be the powered items and the thousand people.”
“Yeah.” Ryvrthe agreed with him. “I’m pretty sure you planned on establishing a city sooner or later back on Veldanyr, considering you asked if any of us were interested in heading back to Veldanyr.”
“Even the power grid wouldn’t be too much of a problem,” he continued. “It would just take a bit of time and effort on our part.”
“Introducing electricity to the empire also wouldn’t be too much of a problem,” said Valyr after Ryvrthe was done. “After all, the system didn’t say we also had to convince the empire that electricity is better than magic. We just have to make them take note of its existence.”
“Well… I do have a few inventions in mind that could be good candidates as the first powered items we make,” said Ryvrthe as he pondered over the young man’s words for a bit.
“However, we’re getting a bit too ahead of ourselves, don’t you think?” Though, rather than continue talking about it, the man proceeded to wave his hands in dismissal. “We still haven’t confirmed if we could charge the device with the stator yet.”
“Yeah.” Hearing those words, Valyr’s thoughts snapped back to the matter at hand.
Giving himself some time to sort out his thoughts, the young man then proceeded to head towards the stator, feeling slight anticipation towards the performance of the copy with the set of instructions he had made.
At the same time, he decided to bring up the description of the new title he received in his head, curious as to what kind of effects it had.
Ding!
————
[Rekindler of the First Spark] (Title)
Rarity: Mythic
To humanity, the first spark… description has been omitted.
Against all odds, you, who lives in a world mostly predominated by magic, were able to harness the power of electricity, ushering the start of an age of greater technology.
Effects:
> +10% boost to INT, WIS, and PER
> -25% cost to all advancements concerning the First Industrial Revolution and beyond
> -40% cost in all purchases concerning Technology Points
> +50% boost in efficacy of Technology Points
————
’Huh.’ By the time he was done reading through its effects, the young man did not take long to understand what it was capable of. ’It’s basically [Herald of the New Era], but better in every way.’
Aside from giving him a bit more stats than the title he had in mind, the reduction in cost was also greater compared to it, giving him a 65% reduction in total cost with the title alone if he were to unlock a new advancement beyond the First Industrial Revolution in his Technology Tree.
Though, if he were to combine its effects with [Herald of the New Era], he was certain that it was only a matter of time before he unlocked all of the advancements on the Second Industrial Revolution.
Perhaps, even the era of technology after that.
“It has been a while since I last grabbed my Technology Points from the guild,” murmured Valyr to himself, recalling the deal he’d made with Elder Alvin in the past.
Deciding to not think more about it for the meantime, the young man went ahead and conjured a copy of himself through [Ephemeral Bodies], positioning it at the same place he stood while turning the stator.
Then, infusing it with the set of instructions he had made, he soon watched the copy firmly grasp the stator, only to start turning it at a similar speed in his previous attempt.
Hum…
“Eh?” Hearing the faint hum echo from the stator, Ryvrthe could not help but frown. “Valyr, I’m still in the middle of attaching the regulator to the rectifier.”
“Could you not turn the stator for a bi—”
Just as he was about to admonish the young man for his actions, the man noticed that a translucent copy of the former was turning the stator instead, leaving the latter at a brief loss for words.
In the end, it was only after Valyr dispelled the copy did Ryvrthe come back to his senses, profusely shaking his head as he asked the former, “What… was that?”
“A skill of mine,” replied the young man with a slight smile, giving the man a brief explanation on what the skill could do. “As long as I give it the right set of instructions, it could pretty much do anything.”
“Is that so…?” Listening to the young man’s explanation, Ryvrthe soon came up with a myriad number of questions regarding the skill.
After all, if Valyr’s skill was indeed capable of doing pretty much anything, wouldn’t it be a massive help in their endeavor of making powered items.
’Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.’ Fortunately, after glancing at the contraption beside them, the man pushed his ambitious thoughts to the side for the meantime, returning his attention to the contraption as he continued to affix the regulator.
With Valyr’s help, they were eventually able to confirm that the regulator now worked as intended, allowing them to move onto the last step they had in mind.
“The moment of truth.”
Affixing a few wires to specific parts of the device, Ryvrthe took in a deep breath as he glanced at Valyr.
Giving the man a faint nod in response, Valyr then glanced at the copy he’d conjured, only to then send the set of instructions he’d come up with for the current test.
Whir…
Watching the stator start to rotate under the copy’s actions, the young man subconsciously held his breath as he watched the voltage shown on the tester gradually increase.
Hum…
Then, as a faint hum began to echo from the stator, Valyr shifted his attention towards the device, inwardly hoping to see the signs they wanted to see from it sooner or later.
“Please work…” murmured the young man to himself.
“Please work…” murmured Ryvrthe soon after, his fingers crossed as he kept his eyes glued towards the device.
“…”
