Chapter 1570: Awakening the Device

Hum…

With Valyr’s copy continuing to turn the stator at a consistent rate, Valyr and Ryvrthe intently watched the device for any signs of it responding to the influx of power.

However, rather than receive any sign from the device that it received said power, the two were instead met with no response from the device even after 10 minutes of continuous waiting.

Still somewhat confident that the device would eventually light up with the stator’s power, Ryvrthe decided to take a brief glance at the tester, curious as to how much power they were currently making.

“…I suppose you could make that skill of yours turn the stator faster, no?” Seeing that the total amount was below half the amount needed to wake the device up, the man quickly understood what was going on as he posed a question to Valyr.

Getting the underlying meaning behind his words, the young man nodded in response as he sent a new set of instructions to his copy. “Guess we’re not making much power, then. Speaking of, how much power are we making at the moment?”

“At the end of the regulator, roughly 10 watts,” said Ryvrthe, his attention still focused on the tester.

Watching the reading on the tester slowly go up, the man briefly shifted his focus towards Valyr’s copy, noticing that the speed at which it turned the stator was about 25% faster than before.

Seeing that the tester now showed a reading of 13 watts, Ryvrthe asked Valyr once more to increase the copy’s turning speed, wanting to see how far they could push the stator before it couldn’t go any further.

With his attention still focused on the device, Valyr sent yet another set of instructions to the stator, changing its commands to where it gradually increased its turning speed after a set amount of time.

With that, the two of them watched both the device and the tester as the stator slowly began to generate even more power than before.

Hum…

Ignoring the hum that was getting louder in the background, both Valyr and Ryvrthe watched as the tester slowly got up to 18 watts.

At that point, the device had surprisingly given them a response, its gears slowly rotating as if it were slowly coming back to life.

Unsurprisingly, both of them became ecstatic after this, confident that it wouldn’t be long until the device fully lit up under the stator’s power.

By the time the stator was producing 20 watts, the gears around the device began to rotate at a faster speed, reminding Valyr of the time Ryvrthe used the device to learn his language back then.

In fact, not only were the gears surrounding the device spinning faster than ever before, the screen of the device also began to give them a reaction, blinking every once in a while with the stator’s power.

“It’s only a matter of time before it fully comes to life,” murmured Ryvrthe, his fists clenched as he watched his dreams slowly become a reality. “I think 24 watts is enough for it to fully awaken.”

“I think it’s doable,” said Valyr in response. “After all, we’ve already doubled the initial output of the stator.”

“Another 20% increase wouldn’t be too hard to do.”

Confident that the stator still had a bit more to give, Valyr changed the copy’s set of instructions one more time, speeding up the rate at which it increased its turning speed.

With that, the changes to the tester’s reading became more frequent, with the reading easily reaching 21 watts just after a few minutes.

At that point, the tester’s screen had fully come to life, giving off a warm light as the gears surrounding it gradually began to slow down.

With the screen’s text being the only thing left for the device to be considered fully awakened, the two of them had hopeful smiles on their faces, already anticipating the moment the device could be used just with the stator’s power.

However, as if the heavens did not want them to achieve their goals that easily, the stator eventually hit a limit in how much power it could produce, being only 2 watts away from reaching the bare minimum to fully awaken the device.

Watching the tester’s reading slowly go down as the copy continued to turn the stator even faster, a sense of dread washed over both Valyr and Ryvrthe, prompting the former to revert the copy’s turning speed back to the speed that allowed the stator to output its peak power.

“…” For a while after that, the two of them stared at each other in silence, their minds still going over how close they were to powering the device with the stator.

Though, once they were able to get over that train of thought, the two eventually let out low sighs, inwardly shaking their heads at the confidence they showed just moments earlier.

“I guess it’s a bit too much to ask for a stator to generate that much power,” said Ryvrthe as he let out a wry chuckle. “If anything, it’s a miracle we were able to push the stator that far.”

“Yeah.” Valyr nodded in agreement, finding it somewhat surprising that the stator the man made could generate that much power.

Though, as he thought about the stator for a bit more, an idea soon popped up in the young man’s mind. “Say… if we used one of the complete stators from the start, how much power do you think we’d generate?”

“Do you think it’d be possible to power the device with just the stator?”

As this question left the young man’s mouth, Ryvrthe immediately went silent as he pondered over the question for a bit, only to go ahead and hastily grab one of the intact stators after that.

Having Valyr dispel his copy for the meantime, he then proceeded to detach the stator he built from the contraption’s main contact wires, swiftly changing the stator they were using to the intact one he just grabbed.

After making sure that the main wires had a firm grip on the new stator’s contacts, it was only then did Ryvrthe allow Valyr to conjure his copy once more, affixing the crank to its center as the copy began to turn the crank.

Whir…

Watching the stator’s center gradually pick up speed, Ryvrthe’s attention soon fell on the tester’s reading.

Noticing that the power the stator was making increased 50% faster than the one he made, the man’s eyebrow raised in curiosity as an expression of anticipation slowly appeared on his face.

Taking note of this, Valyr also took a look at the tester, prompting him to change the copy’s set of instructions to the last one he used for the previous tester.

In a matter of minutes, the new stator was able to reach an output of 22 watts, only to then reach the device’s minimum amount of 24 watts a few minutes after that.

In the end, by the time the copy’s turning speed gave diminishing returns, the two were able to find out that the intact stator could generate 50 watts without a problem, over double of what the first stator could output.

And naturally, with that much power…

The device whirred to life.
