“Huh? Is this a barrier formation?” exclaimed Guy in surprise as he noticed the sudden appearance of a translucent barrier in front of him. For a moment, Guy considered touching the barrier with his finger to see if he could pass through it, but Kakashi stopped him. “Don’t touch it… We don’t know what it might do.”
“Hmm, alright,” nodded Guy as he withdrew his finger. He then broke off a small tree branch and used it to test the barrier.
Whoosh! The moment the tree branch touched the barrier, it ignited and started turning to ash.
Watching the branch burn, Kakashi murmured, “So, we really can’t pass through this barrier.”
Shikamaru looked toward the Amegakure Genins and wondered to himself, “Is the purpose of this barrier to prevent us from interfering, or to stop Shira of Sunagakure from escaping?”
Kakashi responded thoughtfully, “It’s difficult to determine the exact reason. Maybe they created this barrier with both purposes in mind.” Although he said this, Kakashi personally felt that the barrier was primarily to stop them from interfering.
At the same time, Asuma raised his head and, while gazing at the Amegakure Genins, muttered doubtfully, “What the hell are they thinking? Do they actually believe they have a chance of escaping after doing something like this?”
Despite Kakashi’s earlier concerns, which he had shared with Asuma and Guy, none of them truly expected the Amegakure Genins to attack Shira of Sunagakure. However, it turned out they had severely underestimated the audacity of these Genins. Not only did one of them step forward to fight the Suna Genin, but another created a barrier to prevent them from intervening.
“Kakashi, what should we do?” asked Asuma, somewhat worried. As Kakashi had said earlier, they couldn’t allow the Amegakure Genins to act freely. If something serious happened—such as Shira being injured or, in the worst-case scenario, killed—Konoha would also bear some responsibility.
“Let’s first try to talk to the Amegakure Genins and persuade them to stop,” said Kakashi after a moment of contemplation. He added, “We should also immediately inform the Suna representatives.”Kakashi couldn’t help but wonder why Shira of Sunagakure was alone in the training field. Why weren’t other members of his squad or his Jōnin instructor with him? It was strange, but at this point, he couldn’t dwell on that and had to focus on what he could do.
With that in mind, Kakashi instructed Asuma and Shikamaru, “You two go to the guest house where the Sunagakure ninjas are staying and inform them. Meanwhile, Guy and I will talk to the Amegakure Genins.”
Asuma and Shikamaru nodded, saying, “Be careful.” Then they left the training field, heading toward the guest house where the Sunagakure ninjas and staff were lodging. Since it wasn’t far from this training field, it wouldn’t take them long to get there.
On the other hand, Guy and Kakashi approached Raijin and Samsara.
…
“9987… 9988… 9989…”
Under the dim light of the moon hanging in the night sky, Shira stood in front of a large boulder and continuously punched it with his bare fists, bang! Bang! Bang!
There were several cracks on the boulder and with each punch from Shira, they continued to expand becoming larger and covering the entire boulder. As he reached the 10000, Shira let out a battle cry, “Haaa,” and punched the boulder with all his strength, “10000!” Bang! Smash!
As the ten thousandth fist landed on the boulder it couldn’t sustain the damage anymore and collapsed into multiple smaller chunks of rocks.
With the boulder collapsed, Shira broke his stance, took a deep breath, and looked at both fists covered in bandages with a thoughtful expression, “I can still go on.”
Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
Suddenly, the sound of clapping echoed in the training field alarming him. He immediately turned around, looking in the direction of the source of sound, and noticed a figure walking out of the darkness. Looking at that figure, Shira squinted his eyes, “Um?”
Before he could determine the identity of the figure Shira noticed the surrounding sky as well as the trees in the distance become a little translucent, “Is it a Genjutsu?” He tried pinching his arm to no avail then tried to disrupt his Chakra flow in an attempt to break out of Genjutsu, but it didn’t work. Feeling a little confused, “It’s not a Genjutsu?” He rubbed his eyes to make sure that he wasn’t mistaking what he was seeing, but he was really seeing what he was seeing, “Is it a Barrier Formation?”
“Just to make sure that no one interferes,” said the figure as he stepped out of the darkness and arrived in front of Shira.
Looking at that Tengu mask, Shira immediately realized the identity of the figure, “You are… Tengu of Amegakure.” At the same time, his vigilance heightened as he questioned tentatively, “Is there anything you want from me?” No matter how he looked at it, it was obvious that the other party did not have any good intentions toward him.
Taking out a pair of Stiletto-type large needles with feather ends from his sleeves, Tengu disappeared from his position, appearing in front of Shira in the blink of an eye he attacked the Sunagakure Genins in the face with the needle, slashing the needle in this right hand in the upward motion, saying, “How about entertaining for a while?”
‘Fast!’ thought Shira as he instinctively tilted his head to the side. Although he had instinctively tilted his head, the needle still grazed him on the life side of his chin, tearing through the flesh and drawing out blood, “Ahhh!”
The needle slash in the face from Tengu was followed by a kick in the gut, bang!
Although Shira tried to block the kick in the gut using his arms, the pain from the wound on his chin had dulled his senses a little which made it a little difficult for him to perfectly block the kick and was sent flying as his body smashed on a tree, smash!
“Are you truly the most talented Taijutsu user of Sunagakure?” asked Tengu in a cold taunting tone of voice. On their way from the guest house to the training field, Raijin told him some information about Shira of Sunagakure.
“What are you trying to do?” asked Shira as he wiped the blood on his chin and got up with some difficulty. Although he failed to block the kick from the Amegakure Genin, he had instinctively clenched his stomach so the kick in the gut didn’t hurt him much. The burning pain on the chin was indeed a bit annoying, what annoyed him more was the action of Amegakure Genin. Shira is unable to understand the thought process behind the actions of Amegakure’s Tengu. He doesn’t know why Tengu is targeting him all of a sudden. It’s not like he has any previous hatred with the other party… heck, before today, he hasn’t even spoken to the party.
“There is no particular reason… it’s just for amusement,” said Tengu as he once again disappeared from his position and appeared in front of Shira, attacking him once again with a slash in the face which was once again followed by a kick in the gut.
But unlike last time, this time, Shira was well prepared. Not only did he manage to avoid the slash from the needle, but he also dodged the kick in the gut and then followed up with a punch in Tengu’s face, as he questioned, “For amusement? Stop joking around, do you think I’d buy that?”
“What you believe is up to you,” answered Tengu tilting his head to dodge the punch in the face and followed up with his own attack.
With that, a Taijutsu battle broke out between Tengu and Shira.
