Chapter 1087: Seven Heavens Breathing Method

Under the dim light, a lone figure tumbled up and down in a secluded training ground. This scene differed from Raijin’s previous practice, where the training area was filled with erratic lightning streaks. This figure was different. Every time he waved his hands and feet, the air pressure produced blew away blades of grass and leaves from the trees.

Undoubtedly, this person, covered in sweat as he trained relentlessly, was none other than Shira, the strongest Taijutsu user in the history of Sunagakure.

Shira’s title as the strongest Taijutsu genius in Sunagakure’s history was not only due to his extremely high attainments in Taijutsu but also because he independently developed a secret Taijutsu technique known as the ‘Seven Heavenly Breaths.’

To put it into perspective, the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ is a specialized breathing technique. It allows the user to increase their lung capacity severalfold, enabling them to breathe in more oxygen. This oxygen is then used in the respiratory process to keep the cell tissues of the whole body at extremely high oxidation levels, thereby increasing the body’s activity and strength.

Shira’s ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ is distinct from Konoha’s ‘Eight Inner Gates Formation,’ which allows practitioners to break through their body’s limitations and access the full potential of their chakra, thereby increasing physical strength and speed. It also differs from the Lightning Stimulation Method, which uses lightning to enhance the body and brain’s speed and response.

The ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ is an incredible Taijutsu technique focused on specialized breathing techniques.

During the second phase of the Joint Chūnin Promotion Exam, Shira used the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ in a fierce battle against Rock Lee, who employed the Eight Inner Gates Formation. To the surprise of those present on the battlefield or watching via hidden cameras, not only did Shira avoid defeat, but he also dominated the battle as Lee began to run out of stamina.

Although their battle ended without a definitive conclusion—due to Neji, Kiyomi, and Lee retreating from the battlefield with Team Asuma covering for them—the fact remains that a Sunagakure Genin overwhelmed Rock Lee using the Eight Inner Gates Formation.

Of course, it’s important to consider that the current Rock Lee is a few years younger than Shira of Sunagakure. However, this doesn’t change the fact that Sunagakure has developed a Taijutsu technique quite similar to Konoha’s Eight Inner Gates Formation, and it could be fearsome if mastered by a Chūnin or Jōnin.

However, the question remains whether the potential of Sunagakure’s ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ is as high as Konohagakure’s Eight Inner Gates Formation. While many are uncertain, Kuroto is confident that the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ will never match the power of the ‘Eight Inner Gates Formation,’ considering the heaven-defying strength unleashed at the cost of one’s life when the Gate of Death is opened.

The ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ focuses on the respiratory and cardiopulmonary systems, enhancing bodily functions by converting stored fats and proteins into energy and strength. It doesn’t tap into the body’s hidden potential at the cost of burning one’s life. Since the human body can store only a limited amount of energy, the strength this Taijutsu technique can provide is also limited. This is why the upper limit of the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ will never reach that of the ‘Eight Inner Gates Formation.’

Nevertheless, the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ offers significant advantages on a smaller scale, as it is relatively easier to use, adapt to, and control.

Unlike with the ‘Eight Inner Gates Formation,’ using the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method’ doesn’t leave the user’s body painful and haggard after each use.

Understanding this, Might Guy has become quite interested in Sunagakure’s Taijutsu genius, Shira. Whenever he has free time and isn’t training Rock Lee or Naruto, he comes to watch Shira’s training sessions.

Guy’s purpose isn’t to secretly learn the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method.’ For him, the ‘Eight Inner Gates Formation’ is more than enough to occupy his entire life with study and mastery. Instead, it’s the curiosity of a Taijutsu master wanting to understand the limits of another. If not for Shira being so young and preparing for the third phase of the Joint Chūnin Promotion Exam, Guy might have even challenged him to a few exchanges to personally experience the effects of the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method.’

As Guy was watching Shira train, Kakashi, Asuma, and Shikamaru suddenly arrived at the edge of the training field and landed beside him.

Surprised, Guy asked, “What are you guys doing here?”

Asuma, noticing Shira training in the distance, mumbled, “Huh? Is this the training ground Sunagakure’s Shira is using?”

Guy, now even more confused, replied, “You didn’t even know this training ground was given to Sunagakure’s Genin? So, what brought you here, especially this late at night?”

Shikamaru pointed at three figures in the distance and said, “We followed them.”

Guy looked in the direction Shikamaru indicated and noticed the three figures. All of them were wearing masks and observing Shira’s training. Without a doubt, these were Raijin, Samsara, and Tengu.

“Those are… Amegakure Genin… Are they here to gather intelligence on Sunagakure’s Genin?” Guy muttered as he watched them occasionally point at Shira while conversing among themselves. It wasn’t surprising for Raijin, Samsara, and Tengu to be here, since all the participating Genin seemed to be trying to acquire information on their competitors for the final phase of the Chūnin Promotion Exam. He reckoned that the three Amegakure Genins were trying to do the same.

“Maybe…” Kakashi replied, his tone uncertain as he observed Raijin and the other two Amegakure Genin with a thoughtful expression. He then turned to Guy and Asuma, saying, “Just in case, let’s stay vigilant.”

Given that Shira from Sunagakure was the only one at the training field and considering the past behavior of Amegakure’s Raijin squad against Team Seven of Konohagakure, Team Darui of Kumogakure, and later again against Sasuke, Kakashi couldn’t ignore the possibility that the three Amegakure Genin might be planning to attack Shira to eliminate him from the third phase, possibly through injury or some other means.

“Understood,” Asuma and Guy responded, understanding Kakashi’s concern. They became alert, aware that if anything happened to Shira, the responsibility would fall on Konoha, and they needed to prevent any trouble.

As Raijin had anticipated, Shira wasn’t relaxing or having fun. Despite the late hour, he was still training hard, preparing for the final phase of the Joint Chūnin Promotion Exam.

Samsara and Tengu, standing beside Raijin, couldn’t help but ask, “Raijin-sama, why did you bring us here?”

Raijin looked at Tengu and, pointing at Shira in the distance, said, “Go, have a duel with him. Push him to his limits so that he uses everything he has.” By pushing Shira to his very limit, Raijin hoped to force him to fully utilize the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method,’ allowing Raijin to observe the Sunagakure Genin’s Taijutsu technique in detail.

Although Raijin could have fought Shira himself, it would have been difficult to capture every detail while in combat. His goal was to observe and learn the ‘Seven Heavens Breathing Method,’ so sending Tengu to fight while he observed from the sidelines was the right decision. Besides, the battle against Shira would provide valuable fighting experience for Tengu, and Raijin also needed to keep an eye on Kakashi and the others.

“I understand,” Tengu nodded as he unfurled his wings.

Just as Tengu was about to fly toward Shira, Raijin reminded him, “Make sure not to use Sand; it will be troublesome.”

“Got it,” Tengu replied, then took off.

Samsara, eager for a task of her own, asked, “Raijin-sama, what about me? What should I do?”

Raijin didn’t disappoint her. “Deploy a barrier formation to prevent the Konohagakure ninja from interfering in Tengu’s battle.”

“Got it,” Samsara nodded excitedly. She immediately began weaving hand signs, then pressed her hands to the ground. The ground illuminated for a moment before a barrier formation suddenly enveloped the training ground.
