Chapter 1603: To Empress Morgana

Chapter 1603: To Empress Morgana

<Killing Intent!>

Threat: Low

Description: A nearby entity harbored killing intent towards the user! Find and kill that person!

Time Limit: 10 minutes.

Rex sucked in a deep breath and smiled.

As soon as the killing intent quest was triggered, his acute senses caught the killing intent.

He didn’t need to look around the inn—didn’t even need to turn and look.

Just from his acute senses alone, honed through countless life and death scenarios, he already knew the person who harbored this ill intent. Bearing this malicious intent in front of a Werewolf, a creature who was introduced to bloodlust since their birth, was a grave mistake.

Rex could scent it in the air like smoke from a fire.

Since he now knew the spy, the one who would eavesdrop, he could take that person down.

But he didn’t move from his spot.

Normally, Rex asked the serving maid to bring him a drink.

Once she came back and placed it on the table, Rex smiled in gratitude and grabbed the handle.

I don’t need to be hasty—there might be more than one.

Rex wasn’t naïve enough to assume that the interested parties to this meeting were only one.

He was talking with the Empress’ messenger, so it could be more.

And he was going to test it out.

Rex rose abruptly, drink in hand, the chair scraping harshly against the wooden floor as it shot back.

His move made a jarring sound that cut through the hum of conversation, drawing every eye in the inn toward him. In an instant, he became the center of attention. Even the bartender paused, watching him with guarded eyes, ready to intervene should trouble follow.

Rex rose abruptly, drink in hand, the chair scraping harshly against the floor as it shot back. The jarring

Across the room, Princess Davina looked at him with raised brows.

In front of her was already a man, shooting his chances, not knowing he was talking with a princess.

“Sorry for disturbing—but I wanted to make a toast, to get something off my chest.” Rex raised the drink in his hand, looking at the people in the inn with a radiant smile. “To Her Imperial Majesty, the crown jewel of the empire, the only woman worthy of a throne. Let it be known that beauty is a lot more than the surface. The imperial harem may wear silk and a sweet smile, but it certainly takes more than a sweet fragrance and painted cheeks to rule beside a God.”

“The Emperor chose well, and I envy him,” Rex raised his hand higher. “To Empress Morgana.”

Instinctively, the people in the inn also raised their drinks.

Nobody would shame a person for praising the Empress, and it’ll look bad if they don’t do the same.

Rex scanned the room and smiled inwardly.

A lot of parties who was aiming for Empress Morgana could come from everywhere.

She’s the second strongest person in the whole empire; in fact, she could even be the strongest.

It all depends on whether she has the Emperor’s heart firmly gripped in her hand.

However, the greatest danger to Empress Morgana lay not beyond the palace walls, but within them—inside the imperial castle itself. It was a nest of fiery ambition; everyone vied for greater power as well as influence.

And among those who most desired her downfall were the Emperor’s concubines.

Beautiful women were taken into the Imperial Harem.

One who has the chance of becoming an Empress if, so ever, the seat becomes empty again.

Of course, there’s a chance that the spies here weren’t sent by them.

But Rex took the chance as it’s the most likely scenario.

And soon enough, he was proven to be correct.

<Killing intent!>

<Killing intent!>

Rex sat down again, but not before he mentally noted the people who wanted him dead.

He wasn’t even doing it discreetly, openly looking at each one of them, and even shot them a smirk.

Once he was on the chair again, he turned to Princess Davina and nodded.

Swish!

One of Princess Davina’s eyes glowed with an emerald light.

Nobody noticed she activated her powers.

Only the three spies, who were still glaring at Rex, felt the change in the air, a suction that made them breathless as if the air inside their lungs—and around them was taken away, leaving them with nothing but a void.

Sat near the entrance, a man with long brown hair clutched his chest hard.

He was gasping for air, growing more desperate by the second.

But the suffocation was soon overriden by a searing pain on his chest, one that forced him to shout.

“Haargghk!!”

All eyes turned towards him as he stumbled to the ground, curling like a ball because of the pain.

Readily, the bartender rushed to him, checking what was wrong with him.

As he turned the man’s body over, his eyes caught sight of a winged star mark branded into the skin.

It was charred and glowing with a faint emerald light.

He reached out to touch it, but jerked his hand back immediately as it was incredibly hot.

Then, before the bartender could react, two more people fell to the wooden floor with a heavy thud.

All of them were in the same condition—gasping for air, and in pain because of the brand.

Rex rose from his seat and quickly walked over to the collapsed people—with fake concern on his face as he knelt beside the bartender. With a sympathetic nod to the bartender, he began helping to haul the unconscious men outside.

Together, they dragged the trio out under the watchful, bewildered eyes of the inn’s patrons.

All of them were confused and unsure of what they had just witnessed.

First, a man suddenly made a toast to the whole inn, and now this?

On the other hand, the man who was taking his chance with Princess Davina leaned away in shock.

A bead of cold sweat was trickling down the side of his face.

Even though others might not realize it, he saw how one of Princess Davina’s eyes was glowing eerily.

And soon after that, those three men collapsed.

Clearly, it was Princess Davina’s doing—no doubt about it.

As if she hadn’t just brought three men to the floor with nothing but a glance, Princess Davina turned back to the trembling man across her. She clasped her hands together, rested her chin delicately atop them, and offered a faint, amused smile.

Her eyes glinted with a curious, almost eager interest.

“You were saying? You said you’re stronger and more capable than you look?”

“I-I remembered I have somewhere to go. It’s-It’s nice knowing you!”

Not even waiting for Princess Davina to answer, the man slid away, leaving the inn as soon as possible.

He didn’t know what was going on, but today was certainly not a good day to be in that inn.

Outside, Rex and the bartender brought the three men to the stable behind the inn before calling for aid.

“I’ll report this to the guards. They can bring these men to th-“

Before he could finish his sentence, a measured strike landed on his nape, knocking him unconscious.

Rex caught the bartender before he fell and placed him on the side.

Then, he turned to the three men—each one a Master Immortal Spirit, but none of them were even close to Rex in strength. Even if some of them were matching his strength or even stronger, Princess Davina already crippled them, so there was no chance for them to escape their situations.

I’m curious, what kind of Echo does she have? She took these people down with only a look.

But then again, I don’t really know what kind of power a Divine Spirit like her possesses.

As he approached, the three men whimpered, trying to wiggle their bodies away.

Of course, it amounted to nothing as Rex reached them easily.

Rex crouched down and stared at the man with long brown hair first, narrowing his gaze menacingly.

“Speak. Who sent you here?”

“Mrghmmh!”

Despite trying his best to speak, all that came out of his mouth was a growl.

Now that Princess Davina’s attention had shifted elsewhere, he could finally breathe—but the pain still clawed at him, tightening his jaw and making every word a struggle. Not that Rex cared, as he wasted no time sharpening his index fingernail into a claw and drove it into the man’s knee, twisting it to cause more pain.

“Mmrrghh!!”

A muffled scream escaped the man’s mouth, and saliva drooled from the corner of his mouth.

Rex could use his Dark Auctoritas Echo that was associated with his Red Dawn of Kaiser, but that would be too eye-catching. Any powerful activity would trigger the alert the city possessed, so he couldn’t use any high-profile ability.

It was different for Princess Davina since she was exempted from this rule.

She probably possessed something that could blot the alert.

So, Rex could only resort to the normal way of information gathering.

“Let me ask you one more time… who sent you? If you refused to answer, the next poke will be in your heart.”

“Cr-Crystal!”

Desperately, the man forced out a word.

He didn’t want to die here.

“Crystal?” Rex tilted his head. “Is that a code? A name? Tell me.”

Once again, the man couldn’t answer.

But Rex didn’t care and puncture his claw into the man’s chest.

Since the man could speak if he tried hard enough, then all Rex needed to do was to give him motivation.

“Nickname! H-Harem!”

Rex’s forehead creased.

Hmm, so there’s a title or nickname for the women in the Imperial Harem? Maybe a nickname was only given to the women closest to the Emperor? Davina probably knows more about this, so this is a good thing to know.

Then, he turned to the other two men.

“What about you guys? Who sent you?”

“R-Ruby!”

Out of the three spies, only two confessed.

Rex turned his gaze to the last man—a hardened, older figure with a steady glare.

Despite the pain etched across his features, causing the veins to bulge, he endured it in silence, no sign of wavering. He was the only one who hadn’t uttered a word, even with Rex staring him down, a look that was demanding him to name his employer.

Even as he poked several holes in this man’s body, he didn’t waver.

Rex didn’t waste any more time asking, knowing that this man would not open his mouth.

All he did was memorize this older man’s face before pulling out his adam’s apple brutally.

Blood squirted out from his neck, but the sight was so mundane now that Rex didn’t even flinch.

Then, he turned to the remaining men and smiled wickedly.

Seeing the smile on his face was like gazing into the eyes of death itself—and in that chilling moment, the two men came to realize that they were never meant to leave alive. Rex had decided their fate from the start, and both of them would die.

And now, unlike the older man who died an honorable death, the two of them would die as weak men.

Like the older figure, Rex ripped out their throats.

He looked at his bloodied hands and shook his head.

“It’s your own fault for triggering the killing intent quest. I had to kill you now.”

Rex stood up and went to grab a cloth on the side, wiping his hand clean slowly as the horse inside went to the corner of his cage, sensing the predatory aura that Rex was emanating. Once he was done, it was time for him to go back.

Now, he can make a kind gesture to Empress Morgana to win her approval.

Crystal and Ruby, those names might prove to be useful for her.

As he was about to put these corpses away, pointing his hand at them, he stopped.

His mind flickered with the moment where the Invincible Apparition clashed with the Singing Lady.

It was vivid, and he remembered what happened back then.

How he got his Puppet Resistance skill.

Rex smacked his lips as he approached the corpses with hunger burning inside.
