“Are you okay?”
Little Ogi and Little Star quickly helped support Bai Yi as he fell limply to the ground.
“I… I’m fine!”
Bai Yi forced out these words through clenched teeth, knowing that although his first exorcism was successful, the sealing of necromancy within his body was a great test of his constitution.
At this moment, he felt as though he was in a state of total exhaustion, feeling the painful scraping of icy blades over his body.
If they encounter another undead, they will surely die.
Fortunately, they did not encounter any more undead during this last part of their journey.
At the station.
The warm orange light glowed brightly, and even though there was only one platform, it attracted many people.
Little Ogi and Little Star helped Bai Yi walk in, attracting a lot of attention. Many glanced over them, their gazes filled with scrutiny, disdain, and other feelings, then shifted away.
Bai Yi picked a corner and glanced at the people waiting for the train.
There were several groups around him, mainly young men and women. Some were sitting on the ground, eating canned food from unknown sources, while others were sharpening their weapons.
These weapons wouldn’t help much, or rather, they weren’t meant for the undead, but for other people.
‘I hope there aren’t too many people…’ he silently prayed.
The capacity of the train was limited. If there were too many survivors and the capacity wasn’t enough, one wouldn’t need much imagination to know the cruel events that would ensue.
At that time, his weak and vulnerable group would undoubtedly become cannon fodder.
‘If only I could squeeze in…’ Ba Yi sighed as he looked around the station towards the train’s entrance.
Others would have had the same thought, and by now, that area was densely packed with sturdy men, many of them equipped with firearms.
“Next stop, Zhenbei City! The train to Zhenbei City will arrive in five minutes. Passengers are asked to prepare to board in an orderly manner!”
A voice rang out like someone pressing a button. Immediately, everyone became alert, gripping their weapons, ready to push toward the platform.
But then, they realized something was wrong.
The Train of Undead did not have a station announcer!
With this realization, many turned to look at the source of the voice and saw a young man in his twenties walking towards them.
“Haha… Sorry, you all seemed a bit listless, so I wanted to liven up the atmosphere.”
Su Lu apologized with a laugh.
Bai Yi: “…”
Aren’t you afraid of getting killed?
He noticed several menacing glares but nobody made a move, seemingly wary of each other.
And that young man, after a quick survey of his surroundings, came directly to them.
‘Don’t come over, don’t come over!’
Bai Yi silently prayed. Unfortunately, the gods seemed to have ignored his prayer as the young man made his way straight to him and chuckled: “My name is Su Lu, may I know your name?”
“Bai Yi!”
Bai Yi spat out his own name, then quickly turned his head away, giving off a ‘I don’t know this guy.’ look.
“Ah… After the fall of Anxi City, the situation in the city center was terrible… I barely managed to escape and made it here…”
To Bai Yi’s surprise, Su Lu casually struck up a conversation: “Do you know about Zhenbei City? I’ve been there before… It’s under the control of a major force called the ‘Death Sect’ which charges fees for public transport.”
“What?”
Startled, Bai Yi realized that he had never considered this issue. Afterall, he had only arrived in this world a few months ago and his knowledge was limited to Anxi City and its railway network.
“If you encounter them…”
Seeing many around him prick up their ears to listen, Su Lu chuckled: “If you can’t afford the train fare, you’ll either be kicked off the train or forced to sell yourself into slavery.”
“Of course… Even though life is tough as a slave in Zhenbei City, it is, at the very least, a path to survival.” He paused, then continued: “Apart from professional exorcists… ordinary people are having a hard time there.”
‘Exorcists?’
A thought flashed through Bai Yi’s mind, and Little Ogi and Little Star glanced at him.
However, he felt that there was something off about ‘Su Lu’.
Whoo-Whoo!
Just then, a sound echoed from afar. It was the train’s whistle.
Along with it came a powerful light piercing through the darkness.
“It’s the real train!”
“The train has arrived.”
There was a commotion on the platform, and Bai Yi subconsciously glanced at his watch: “Exactly five minutes… Are you sure you’re not a station announcer?”
“No, it’s just a coincidence.”
Su Lu chuckled coldly as he watched everyone scramble forward, yet he made no move.
Noticing his inaction, Bai Yi felt puzzled, but suppressed the restlessness of Little Ogi and Little Star beside him.
When the train arrived and the doors opened, a row of figures in black windbreakers emerged. They guarded the many train doors, and a crescent moon shaped symbol was located on their collars: “We are representatives of the Death Sect. Do you want to board the train? Then you should know the rules. Where are your tickets?”
“Tickets? All intercity train transportation is free!”
Someone in the crowd called out.
“Very good, very courageous.”
A death cultist with pale skin and red pupils sneered, a phantom emerging from his body.
Around them.
Several lights flickered erratically, as if disrupted by some magnetic field.
Suddenly, a middle-aged man in the crowd shot both hands up, clutching his own neck and refusing to let go, as if trying to strangle himself.
The crowd dispersed in shock, creating a clear space with the man, his face turning purple, at the center.
“This… this…”
Bai Yi watched the death cultist with red pupils: “It seems to be the power of a Spiritual Body… How did he do that? How is that possible, we’re at a station!”
“Spiritual Bodies merely dislike coming to stations; it’s not that they can’t… The only thing that can suppress lower-level Spiritual Bodies is the train itself.”
Su Lu laughedat Bai Yi’s question: “As for his power… you can also have it, it’s just a variation of the Exorcist profession…”
“A variation?”
Bai Yi seemed to have thought of something, his eyes lighting up.
“Since you have already sealed a Spiritual Body inside you, can’t you extract its abilities? This is essentially the ‘Human Pillar’ mode…”
Su Lu shook his head: “Of course… this is deliberately causing a breach in the seal. If you can’t suppress it, death will be hideous…So, you’ll need the help of an external force. The Death Sect worships Lady Moon!”
“Suppressing with divine power?”
Bai Yi murmured to himself, realizing he might have a chance to become a ‘Human Pillar’.
Just then, a loud voice caught his attention.
It was the young man with the red pupils, speaking through a megaphone: “Listen up… all you desperate losers. If you want to board the train and survive, either buy a ticket or sell yourself!”
Inside the train’s carriage, there were a few scattered passengers who seemed indifferent to the commotion outside.
