Transcendent Dawn

Chapter 712: Fierce Battle

“How much does a ticket cost?”

The sight of the Death Cultist with crimson pupils had made many people shrink back. A heavily made-up woman saw this and came forward to chirpily ask.

“It’s not expensive. It’s ten joss paper per person, no matter if you’re an adult or a child.”

The Death Cultist answered with a smile.

“Joss paper?!”

Bai Yi too was puzzled, turned towards Little Ogi and Little Star, who only returned blank faces.

“Joss paper is a special matter that comes into existence along with supernatural phenomena… Exorcists can also produce it, though it takes a lot of time and dedication…”

Su Lu faithfully explained: “And this ‘joss paper’, when you encounter a spiritual body or a curse, it can even be thrown out to take a hit for you, making it a highly sought-after lifesaver.”

Upon hearing this, Bai Yi immediately understood: “A piece of joss paper equals a life, so a ticket is worth… ten lives! Such a freaking rip-off!”

Indeed, knowledgeable people were present, and whispers of disquiet began to circulate in the crowd after his statement.

Even those who genuinely held ten pieces of joss paper might not be willing to hand them over to the highway robbers for tickets.

“Of course… those who are unwilling to buy a ticket can also sell their bodies, join us, sign a thirty-year labor agreement, our death sect offers generous packages, food and housing are included…”

“Compared to death… what’s thirty years, right? Of course… if you’re an exorcist, we offer preferential treatment.”

This was a coercive strategy, snatching up the leaders and warriors leaving the ordinary folk helpless and ripe for exploitation.

“Get lost!”

Smack!

From within the crowd, a voice suddenly erupted, along with the voice, a dark object was hurled at the feet of the red-eyed cultist: “Charge together!”

The object shattered upon touching the ground; it turned out to be a ceramic jar.

A great amount of dark energy spiraled out, revealing the specter of an elderly man dressed in black.

With a pallid face and hollow eyes, his rigid, greenish-black skin stared straight at the nearest red-eyed cultist, a stench of decay spreading outwards.

“Damn it… who brought a revenant in here?”

Cold sweat immediately trickled down the forehead of the red-eyed cultist.

Though he too was an exorcist, the horror level of this revenant greatly exceeded his expectation.

A minor mishandling, and he could possibly die!

As such, without a second thought, he retreated into the carriage.

The Train of the Undead could suppress many spiritual bodies and curses!

The old man merely lingered at the carriage door and didn’t go in. Soon, he fixed his gaze on the nearest ordinary person.

“No!”

Amid the screams, he swiftly moved forward, laying his hand on the head of the ordinary person, and slowly, but firmly, twisted it around a full one hundred and eighty degrees.

“Quick! Rush in! The doors of the carriage have a time limit to open and are not controlled by the sect.”

Another voice echoed through the crowd, and all of a sudden, everyone began to squeeze into the carriage.

Though nobody dared to approach the door where the old man was, the train had many doors!

“Charge!”

At this point, Bai Yi gritted his teeth, leading Little Ogi and Little Star, and aimed for one of the doors.

It was only a carriage away from where the old man was standing. Because of fear, fewer people dared to rush there, and the distance was much closer.

As for the strategy to deal with the old man, he had already thought it through.

“Spirit Exorcism!”

Seeing the old man glance over, Bai Yi immediately threw out a talisman.

The power of the talisman couldn’t make the old man retreat, but it bought them some time as he switched targets, clutching another person’s head, starting to twist.

“We made it!”

Taking advantage of this fleeting moment, Bai Yi, with Little Ogi and Little Star in tow, barged into the carriage and took a deep breath of relief.

But the next second, his whole body stiffened, seeing the red-eyed cultist not far away drawing his weapon.

Some passengers were sitting in the seats on the train, they watched impartially, while others, with pale faces, watched with amusement.

Clang!

As if on cue, the doors closed forcefully, blocking out those who hadn’t made it onto the train in time.

Straightaway, the train started running at high speed.

“A blood battle is about to happen…”

Su Lu also squeezed in, sighing to one side: “The carriage forbids low-tiered spiritual bodies and curses. Everyone has been turned into ordinary people… but ordinary people can also kill…”

With his words, a showdown immediately ensued between the intruders and the Death Cultists.

Even though the intruders outnumbered the cultists, the cultists had superior equipment, making Su Lu feel as if he was at the scene of a bloody movie.

Blood splashed onto the windows, limbs and flesh flew all over the place.

But soon, they were mysteriously absorbed by the carriage. It appeared that this train required the sacrifice of blood and flesh as well.

“No!!”

In the chaos, faint roars from Bai Yi could be heard.

He couldn’t protect Little Ogi and Little Star all by himself in such a situation. Little Ogi pushed Little Star into his arms, but was involuntarily swept into the battlefield herself.

“Why… Why has it become like this?”

“Death Cultists!”

Bai Yi was kneeling on the ground, his eyes filled with bloodshot rage.

But now, even if he released his spiritual body, he would be repressed by the carriage, given that the previously sealed entity was merely a lowly revenant.

“Oh Lord… I pray to you, for sufficient strength!”

Bai Yi knelt on the ground, suddenly praying fervently.

Crackle!

Accompanied by his words, the carriage light went off all of a sudden.

Chilling, horrifying…

A terrifying aura quickly spread throughout the train.

Everyone halted their actions; every pore on their bodies constricted, their entire bodies trembling.

“What’s happening?”

The Death Cultists cried out in shrill voices: “What happened to the train?”

The Train of the Undead was considered exceptionally safe; in their minds, it was as ‘common sense’ as water flowing downhill!

But now, this common sense was shattered, and the shock and fear it brought were incomparable!

“This is bad…”

An elderly passenger exclaimed with terror: “what can cause deviation on the train must be destructive curses and evil spirits! Once such a supernatural spirit is encountered, it is almost certain to be a death sentence!”

His chilling tone made everyone feel as if they had plunged into hell.

Crackle!

A layer of frost quickly spread inside the carriage, nearing Bai Yi.

He felt a chill seeping into his soul.

Through the haze, Bai Yi opened his eyes, everything around him became translucent.

In this hazy gray atmosphere, it appeared to be a massive arm covered in ice firmly held the train.

An evil spirit materialized in a white hue, with a chorus of shrieks in the background, began a massacre indiscriminately…

“The Spirit Lord…”

It was unclear how much time had passed when darkness receded, and the lights inside the carriage lit up again.

Bai Yi was tightly hugging Little Star, feeling as if they had escaped by the skin of their teeth: “We… survived?”

He glanced around the carriage, which was now considerably less crowded, and sprinted toward a pool of blood, finding Little Ogi, who had lost an arm and a leg: “She’s still alive.”

Bai Yi’s eyes lit up with joy, and he promptly started to apply pressure to stop her bleeding.

Suddenly, his expression shifted, and he wiped his hand across Little Ogi’s wound.

A layer of frost suddenly surfaced. It wasn’t bone-chilling, instead, it had an effect of pain relief and stopping the bleeding.

“What is this…”
