Chapter 271: All out War (1)
After the invading army had finally composed themselves, they managed to cut through the attacks which were coming from the ground level, sending down their own counterattacks.
Each of the alien soldiers held a weapon that did not look common. One could tell from a glance that they were better than even the best weapons that had dropped from monsters on Earth.
There were larger soldiers who held a long spear, while there were others that held short swords, each had a brilliant sheen, a sign that they were made by a master blacksmith. The alloy looked tough, yet there was a certain finesse within the craftsmanship that made those who gazed upon it appreciate it.
Of course, that was only if the person was not an enemy.
Before long, the enemy army was sending out slashes and attacks from their high vantage point. The superior weapons shone with a bright luster as they amplified the attacks of the invaders.
The human army which were dominating the exchange moments earlier suddenly fell into a panic. They had not expected the domineering attacks from the vulnerable enemies in the sky, therefore casualties were unavoidable.
Due to the mass of people on the ground, each attack dealt damage to many soldiers at once. The sound of screams echoed throughout the battlefield as the attacks landed on the ground.
At a glance, the initial attacks had killed at least 100 members of the human army who had not been prepared for the counterattack.
“F*ck!” Colin cursed, seeing the devastation in front of him. While he was not well versed in war tactics, he could instantly tell that they were in an unfavorable position, despite their earlier success.
“Get back!” He bellowed, directing the surviving army members to get behind him. Thankfully, they were more than happy to oblige, quickly organizing their retreats before becoming casualties themselves.
Suddenly, Colin could see a bulky alien slash down with a ridiculously over sized scythe, sending out a ranged attack at the members who were retreating with their backs turned.
His face contorted in anger before Colin threw himself forward to take the brunt of the attack. If it was to land, there was no doubt that at least 50 lives would be reaped from that one attack, that’s how strong it was.
As he was stepping forward, his eyes locked onto the bulky invader who had thrown out the attack, only to see his expression form into a devious grin. Yet Colin paid it no heed, putting forth his Greataxe in front of his large body in order to stop the attack.
Colin braced himself as the slash landed, instantly tearing apart his shirt and exposing his taut muscles. He was pushed back almost 20 meters with his feet digging into the Earth after attempting to stop the attack.
Thankfully, he had managed to disperse the energy eventually and without a scratch no less.
By the time he had recovered, the soldiers had begun to touch down on the Earth with the large alien at the forefront. He looked at Colin, focusing on his rippling muscles for a moment before scoffing audibly.
Without saying a word, he slammed his over sized Scythe into the ground and began to take off his top. As the alien lifted his shirt, his light green skin rippled with vasculated muscles.
He then flexed his upper body, as if he were having a pose off with Colin from across the battlefield. Colin watched on with his jaw almost dislocating from how fast it had dropped.
The human army were also dumbfounded by the display, not knowing how to react.
Out of instinct, Colin almost began his bodybuilding poses in response, however he was able to hold himself back. Now was most certainly not the time to get into a vanity competition with the enemy who wished to invade and destroy their world.
Yet before he could organize the troops, the large alien who had been tensing his bulging muscles, suddenly choked, letting out a gurgling sound. Colin’s gaze quickly moved, only to see a fountain of blood flowing out of his throat.
Out of the corner of his eye, Colin saw a shadowy figure retreating from the enemy line, unnoticed by the invading army. They were too focused on the large being at the front of the pack who was currently in his death throes.
’Zane…’ Colin caught sight of the figure who had currently returned to the edge of the army. He saw the handsome yet stoic man retrieve a cloth and casually wipe the blood off of the Bloodfang Dagger in his hands.
It was as if he was just casually doing the dishes, not cleaning the blood of a strong enemy off his weapon. Yet despite the macabre sight, Colin’s face turned up into a grin.
He turned to the side, seeing Heath, Ben, Amber, Lianna and his wife Jackie beside him. Suddenly he began to fill with confidence. How many times had they overturned all odds and come out as the victor with these people?
“Heath… Let’s use the arrow formation. I’ll go from the front and you go from the back. We’ll have the others attack the flanks” Colin said after a moment, turning his attention to the invading army that still seemed to be in a panic at the sudden death of one of their members.
“Ah, okay.” Heath responded, his face turning stern. He was more motivated than ever to clean up this army and head back to his wife and child. This was the longest that he had been away from either of them since his baby Rowan was born.
“Jacks, Ben, Amber. I need you to attack the flanks when the army breaks their formation.”
“Yes Vice Leader.”
“Yes honey.”
They answered without pause to which Colin nodded in appreciation. He felt a few butterflies after being referred to as Vice Leader without a sarcastic tone for once in his life.
“Lianna, can I count on you to send some heals our way?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be keeping an eye on you all.” She responded.
Leah also came beside her sister and spoke up. “I’ll also do some healing.”
