Chapter 1078: 1078 Perhaps
With the examination spells in place, Vladimir’s excitement began to turn to the professional curiosity of a millennia old researcher.
“Can you release the restraints on your aura and mana? I can’t get a clear picture with it restrained this way.” He requested.
“Sure, just give me a second to shield our friend.”
The Selkie rolled her eyes, but when the barrier came up over her, followed by a flood of Wolfe’s power and an oppressive aura so thick her body instinctively wanted to kneel in submission, she understood.
That was no normal magic user. Even the Fae Queen didn’t have a dominant aura that oppressive.
Vladimir whistled. “I don’t even know what sort of being could do that to you. As far as presence goes, I would say that you’re already one of the stronger Kings, and your mana capacity would certainly meet the standard, but you only have eight mana cores, and you lack the knowledge transformation that comes with the enlightenment.”
“Enlightenment?” Wolfe asked.
“Like the Saint Rank, the King Rank has a form of natural trial, where the new leader is put through a form of natural tribulation. Most of the time there is lightning, hellfire, that sort of thing. The humans call it a Divine Tribulation, but it’s really just the aspirant trying to adapt to the universe on a new level.”
“So, what I’m lacking isn’t power but understanding? That makes sense. With everything that has happened, I am a bit ahead of schedule compared to those who came before me.”
The Selkie gave him a curious look, while Vladimir laughed.
“Yes, by a few centuries. But understanding doesn’t always have to come slowly. I can provide you with access to the memory crystals and give you the basic information compiled by those who came before you, and then you can work it out on your own time.” He explained.
“That would be great. I know that the Queen of the oceans is eager for me to put more effort into cleansing the corruption over the continent, but I can do that more easily if I have a better understanding of magic.
The humans destroyed all the knowledge that they could find after the war. Now, there is nothing left there to learn from. Even the Witches lost most of their knowledge with the Bloodline Curse that was put on them at the end of the war.” Wolfe explained.
Vladimir laughed. “Oh, I know the one that you mean. They were talking about that for years before the end. Nobody wanted to use it, they claimed that it was overkill and punished the innocent. Some of the Rebel Witches claimed it was the only way to break the cycle, and that after a few generations of weak Witches, they would cleanse it and raise a new generation with better attitudes.”
“Well, that went a bit off track. Mostly because everyone was dead at the end. But we got the new generation with better attitudes before I started to cleanse the bloodline curse.” Wolfe joked.
“How bad were the casualties?”
“About ninety percent of the world’s population was dead by the end of the war.”
Vladimir didn’t seem to be shocked by the news, so he had likely gotten enough information that he had a good idea.
Of course, unlike the few other survivors on the continent when it was sunk, he actually knew what was coming, and was most likely kept appraised of the situation.
“I will get the crystals now, and we can get started with the process. If the lady Emissary would like to rest, we have appropriate resting rooms for all species.” Vladimir suggested.
“An appropriate resting room for a Selkie?” She asked, confused.
Now the Vampire was giddy like a young child who was getting to show off his toys to a new friend.
“Yes, just this way, please. You will see, it is very well-equipped for your species.”
The resting area he led them to appeared to be a combination living room and bedroom on one side, with a swimming pool on the other. There were smooth stones, designed to relax on, both just under and next to the pool, and Wolfe noticed that there was a complex light and heat spell placed on the ceiling.
“You can adjust the settings for sleeping, basking in the sun, cold deep water, warm tropical waters or anywhere in between. So, you may rest in either form, and there are entertainment crystals mounted along the basking stone, underwater, and in the headboard of the bed if you would like to watch a show.
I suppose they’re all classics at this point, but there are a few thousand different titles available.” Vladimir proudly announced.
Wolfe took in the room as the Selkie rushed around looking at everything. He had been remiss in his hospitality. This room was spectacular.
Once he got back, he was definitely adding relaxation rooms like this to the city. Even if they weren’t aquatic animals, many of their guests would love it.
“We will allow you to relax here. If you touch the screen on this wall, it will summon a servant spell, and they can bring you anything you need. Food, refreshments, or even a change of clothing. It is all made to order with magic, so no need to hold back.” Vladimir explained.
She was so enthralled with the room that the vampire had to repeat himself.
“Got it. Press the screen to request what I need. This is wonderful, I will gladly wait for Saint Noxus right here. To think, I actually get to experience the legendary Magi Hospitality.”
Wolfe chuckled as he realized that there were ulterior motives to staying with him, and they seemed to involve basking on a rock in the sun.
“Patriarch Wolfe, if you would follow me this way, I will bring you directly to the Archives. They are a sealed and restricted area, but the house has recognized you as the current Patriarch, so there shouldn’t be any issue with you accessing anything that you might need.”
