Chapter 1105: 1105 Future Proof

“I suppose that as a castle, it’s only normal that there will be generations of the Family living here, along with all of the advisors that a King will need, and the foreign dignitaries.

We will have to make some servant quarters in the castle as well. For those who don’t have a family and need to be available on short notice, it makes no sense to send them all the way across the valley at the end of a long shift, even if it is somewhat uncomfortable for them to be around the powerful auras.” Wolfe suggested as the ladies drew their vision for their quarters.

There would be six separate sections. Five for the Pentacles, and one for Wolfe and whoever was hanging around him for the day.

That was the best plan that they could come up with, as each of the Pentacles would want different living conditions, and when they did eventually turn over the castle to the next generation, it was likely that the next King’s advisor’s and wives would not have that sort of overlap.

So, even though a half dozen more or less lived with him, and there were others who weren’t technically part of the Pentacles, it would work out in the long run.

“If we design them like villas, like the design in Forest Grove, but larger, with three-bedroom suites around a central common area, we can keep everyone together, and we would still have privacy when we need it, especially after we have children.” Lucy suggested, while playing with the tip of her long ginger braid.

They tweaked the design a bit more, and then added a few more design features that reminded them of Forest Grove that they were sure the Fae would like. Two of them were underground sorts, with Drazzit preferring the depths, and Monika preferring the forges, so that part was simple to accommodate.

But setting up rooms for a Forest Elf, a Nymph and a Faerie, all under a mountain, was not going to be quite as easy.

“What if we make a large cavern like this at the bottom? Then we don’t have to increase the spacing of the others, and we can make a hidden forest for them? That would be better than a fake forest with low ceilings.” Jessica suggested.

“That could work. But a full forest for living quarters still feels excessive.” Francisca sighed.

Annette flitted over, checking their design, and landed on the girl’s shoulder.

“It’s better to just give us rooms with an easy exit from the mountain. Adding more trees deep underground doesn’t make it feel any less like being buried under a mountain. There is no fresh air that deep underground.” The Faerie informed them.

“So, on the upper levels, near the Witches? And then we can move the Demons’ quarters down?” Francisca asked.

“That would be good. We can always just go through a portal to get to trees, but getting fresh air every day is essential, and being close to the surface is more comfortable.”

With that advice, they began to redraw the design so that they could more comfortably accommodate everyone.

“You all work on the underground details, and I will get the castle itself ready. I can do the interior of the rooms before you’re ready to do the rest of the building, and then we at least have a spot to sleep if we don’t get everything done tonight.” Wolfe informed them.

Cassie waved him off, settling in to make room designs. They had obtained Risa and Annette, so at least they had someone from each species category to give input on the living areas. But with so many different requirements, they were going to be quite a while.

They also had to plan the entertainment, relaxation and other areas for themselves. Making spaces for others could be simple and clinical, but when it was your own home, it was personal, and they were getting constantly sidetracked with new ideas.

But the interior of the castle wouldn’t be too hard for Wolfe to do. He just needed to pick a new theme, something that he hadn’t used before, so that guests would be suitably impressed as well as immediately able to identify where they were, should they happen to pass out drunk.

That happened at parties far more than Wolfe would like to admit, and it was incredibly common to find people passed out under the stages and stalls of the central market area in Forest Grove after a celebration.

There wasn’t anywhere in town that was more than a ten-minute walk from there, but sometimes they just partied until they dropped.

This time, Wolfe decided to go more with a theme that he had seen in many of the other Royal Palaces. Highly polished hardwood floors with simple pattern, extremely detailed vaulted ceilings with frescoes and carvings, and walls that were either vibrant colours, or gold-plated on the lower half with a simple cream colour at the top, to highlight the artworks that would later be added to the lower sections.

Then it was carpets, furniture, and all the little things that you needed to call a room complete.

The final effect was grand, and very impressive, with a sense of grandeur, just what he wanted out of the Palace.

It didn’t have the thousands of years of history and grandeur, but he didn’t want to make everything look the same, so as Wolfe moved out of the public spaces, he began to change the themes.

There were eight sets of suites for visitors in the upper castle, each of which got a different colour scheme, while the outside and the castle walls were left as the simple stone blocks that the castle was built from.

The spire in the centre of the complex was already a marvel, so Wolfe didn’t do anything to it on the outside, and only decorated the top levels with the private quarters and the large banquet hall that they had agreed on.

That should be enough for the day. There was somewhere to sleep and somewhere to eat. But Wolfe also did the sleeping and common quarters, including a rec room and an empty library for the servants who would be stationed in the Castle.

They were going to be needed soon, and it wouldn’t do for them not to have anywhere to move into.
