Chapter 1108: Raijin vs Uchiha Sasuke cont. - II

VIP Seating Area.

Watching Sasuke’s Susano’o unleash its unchecked fury, the Sandaime Tsuchikage frowned and asked, “Is there any point in continuing this fight? At this stage, it’s not even a battle anymore… The boy from the Uchiha Clan seems to have lost his mind. He’s just venting his anger or something, but it’s hard to understand why.”

‘Kuroto’ remained silent, uncertain of Raijin’s intentions moving forward. This silence surprised not only the Tsuchikage but also the Raikage. Still, neither of them was overly concerned. Whether it was Raijin or Uchiha Sasuke, both were clearly exhausting themselves, which would work to Deidara and Darui’s advantage should they face either in the upcoming rounds.

Iwagakure Waiting Room

Kurotsuchi smirked and teased Deidara, “Haha, Deidara-kun, you’re always saying you’ll teach the Uchiha Clan a lesson. Looks like you might get your chance… but judging by Uchiha Sasuke, I feel like you’ll end up regretting it if you fight him.”

Normally carefree, Deidara’s expression had turned unusually serious as he watched the battle unfold, a rare sign of nervousness creeping onto his face. Although Sasuke’s mastery of ‘Purple Lightning’—a Single Chakra Nature Transformation of Lightning Chakra—posed a bit of a threat due to Lightning Style’s advantage over Earth Style, Deidara hadn’t been too concerned before. He still believed he could handle the young Uchiha.

But now, with Sasuke having awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, the situation had changed completely. The Genjutsu prowess of the Mangekyō, combined with the nearly invincible offense and defense of Susano’o, presented a far greater challenge.

Even so, Deidara wasn’t intimidated. He snorted coldly, “Hm, all the better… I’ll make this brat pay for the trouble Homusubi of the Amatsukami caused me. Hmm… they’re all from the same clan, after all. Let them share the consequences of their own mess.”

His fighting spirit ignited, burning like a fire ready to explode at any moment. As proud as he was, Deidara wasn’t afraid of a pair of Mangekyō Sharingan. In fact, he had been training specifically to deal with the Uchiha’s infamous eyes.

Kumogakure’s Waiting Room

Shee frowned, wondering aloud, “Why isn’t Raijin putting up any resistance? All he’s doing is dodging Uchiha Sasuke’s attacks.”

Atsui nodded slightly as if a possibility had occurred to him. “Don’t tell me he’s afraid that he doesn’t stand a chance against Uchiha Sasuke now that he’s using that strange purple Jutsu…” He turned to Darui and asked, “What do you think, Darui-san?”

“Hm? Oh… what were you saying?” Darui snapped out of his deep concentration, having been intently analyzing the fight between Sasuke and Raijin.

Atsui repeated his question and added, “Raijin’s clearly not using his full power… but what’s his plan?”

Darui scratched his head, still unsure. “I’m… not really sure.” He thought back to his own fight with Raijin in the second phase of the Joint Chūnin Promotion Exam that occurred in the Forest of Death and the formidable Jutsus Raijin had used then. Judging from the strength Raijin had displayed before, he was clearly holding back against Uchiha Sasuke. Realizing this, he too wondered, ‘What is Raijin trying to do? Does he not intend to win this battle? Does he have something else in mind?’ After thinking for a while, Darui mumbled, “Maybe he’s trying to wear Sasuke down?” Although that’s a simple guess and something too obvious, but it’s the only possibility that makes some sense.

“Wear him down?” Atsui asked, a little skeptical.

Shee seemed to agree with Darui’s theory. “Yeah, that could be it. The Mangekyō Sharingan must require a lot of chakra. By avoiding a direct confrontation and forcing Sasuke to recklessly use his Mangekyō powers, Raijin might really be trying to tire him out, drain his chakra reserves.”

“I see,” Atsui nodded thoughtfully.

Konohagakure’s Waiting Room

Tsunade glanced at Shizune with a complicated expression.

Facing Tsunade’s gaze, Shizune looked utterly hopeless.

All the money they had saved over the past year had been bet on Deidara of Iwagakure and Darui of Kumogakure. Considering they were the strongest ‘Genin’ participating in the Promotion Exam, it seemed certain one of them would emerge victorious. The odds weren’t great as a majority of people have made their bet on these two but at least there was hope that they wouldn’t lose their money.

But neither of them had expected Uchiha Sasuke to suddenly explode in the final phase of the exam by awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan. Now, there was a strong chance that Sasuke might win the whole thing. And they couldn’t ignore Naruto, who had tapped into the Nine-Tails’ power, or Neji, who had apparently mastered a technique that could mysteriously break Ninjutsu, making him somewhat immune to one aspect of shinobi art. Then there was Samsara, who defeated Temari with ease, and Raijin, who’d been causing all sorts of chaos.

Looking back, either of these people can win the entire thing and that would mean that they’ll lose everything!

‘Why? Why do I always lose?’ Tsunade couldn’t help but feel the urge to cry.

Of course, Tsunade-hime hadn’t taken into account the money she had made recently during the Afforestation Project. But even then, she was very sad.

At the Arena

Seeing Raijin continually dodging between his Susano’o’s attacks, Sasuke sneered, “I want to see how long you are going to run!”

Suddenly, the Mangekyō Sharingan in Sasuke’s eyes flashed, red capillaries became deeper in his white sclera and a bloody tear dripped from his eyes.

Shraa!

In an instant, black flames materialized in front of Raijin.

The moment Raijin noticed Sasuke gathering Chakra in his eye and trying to use his Dōjutsu, Raijin swiftly activated the Body Flicker Jutsu, dodging just in time to avoid whatever he was about to use.

Raijin had anticipated that Sasuke might use one of the Dōjutsu awakened through the Mangekyō Sharingan, and Amaterasu was definitely one he had considered. Although he hoped Sasuke hadn’t unlocked the combination of Amaterasu and Kagatsuchi—believing it to be a waste of his Mangekyō’s potential—he still prepared for the possibility and did not get injured.

After reappearing at a distance, he muttered, “Amaterasu?” Raijin recognized the black flames and couldn’t help but chuckle, ‘Amaterasu seems to have become a family tradition, huh?’ Uchiha Fugaku had awakened it, Uchiha Itachi had it, and now Uchiha Sasuke had unlocked the same Dōjutsu.

While Raijin knew that awakening a Dōjutsu was more connected to a Uchiha’s emotions and inner turmoil than their bloodline, the fact that all three—Fugaku, Itachi, and Sasuke—had manifested it was still strange. It almost felt as if Amaterasu had become hereditary in their family.

‘Anyway, one of his Dōjutsu is Amaterasu, but what about the other one?’ Raijin thought, narrowing his gaze on Sasuke.

Meanwhile, the flames, having missed their target, didn’t dissipate. Instead, they quickly spread across the ground, igniting a large area in a matter of moments.

Sasuke was momentarily surprised that Raijin had managed to dodge even Amaterasu. However, his confidence, inflated by the new power he’d just awakened, overshadowed his concern. To him, Raijin was nothing more than prey—something to toy with.

After dodging Sasuke’s surprise attack, Raijin glanced at the spreading black flames.

To him, Amaterasu was insignificant. More precisely, any technique that didn’t contain Byakugan Chakra or Senjutsu Chakra wasn’t much of a threat to him anymore. With the Giant Tenseigan of the Hyuga Clan now in his possession, Raijin could absorb most forms of Ninjutsu lacking those specific Chakras.

In fact, even before obtaining the Giant Tenseigan, he could absorb Ninjutsu, but only when his soul was within his main body. While using clones, he couldn’t access the Tenseigan and couldn’t absorb Chakra-based attacks.

But now, with the power of the Giant Tenseigan, even in his clone form, Raijin could absorb Chakra, including Amaterasu’s black flames. All he needed to do was absorb them, rendering Sasuke’s attack utterly useless.

While Raijin could easily absorb Amaterasu with the help of Giant Tenseigan of the Hyuga Clan, doing so in front of such a large audience would raise too many questions. People would notice the Chakra being absorbed, which closely resembles Nagato’s ability to absorb Chakra through one of the Six Paths of Pain.

Kakashi already suspected Raijin of being connected to the Akatsuki. If he openly used a technique resembling Nagato’s ability, it would only confirm Kakashi’s suspicions. This could lead Kakashi to interfere in the battle and attempt to subdue him—something Raijin definitely wanted to avoid. Not to mention, unless driven into a corner, Raijin didn’t want to reveal this power to everyone. That left him with two options: either seal the Amaterasu or continue dodging. Sealing the black flames would take time, as he’d need to pull out a scroll and carefully contain them. While that’s fine when cleaning up the battlefield after a fight, doing so in the middle of a heated battle against Sasuke would make him an easy target for attack. Therefore, dodging remained the most practical option.

However, if the situation demanded it, Raijin wouldn’t hesitate to absorb Amaterasu. He had invested too much into developing this Lightning Clone to let Sasuke destroy it. Kuroto simply didn’t have the time and luxury to start over and develop Lightning Nature Clone another from scratch.

For now, though, there was no need to resort to that. Raijin still had plenty of room to maneuver. With that in mind, he focused on observing Sasuke’s Susano’o once more, analyzing its movements.

At that moment, Sasuke’s Susano’o appeared as a half-body skeleton, lacking muscles, armor, and weapons. ‘Since it is still in the second stage…’ he thought. This form of Susano’o is quite vulnerable to physical attacks.

‘Let’s not wait for Sasuke to cover the entire arena in Amaterasu. Now that I’ve confirmed one of Sasuke’s Dōjutsu, it’s time to start fighting back.’ Although Raijin wasn’t certain whether the other Dōjutsu was Kagatsuchi, he was ready to counter the young Uchiha.

‘Sasuke, as your elder, let me teach you a lesson for free!’ Raijin declared internally, weaving one-handed hand signs while gathering lightning in his other hand. ‘White Lightning Style: Dragon!’

Instantly, the white lightning that had gathered on Raijin’s arm surged to life, growing in size and taking the form of a lightning dragon more than two meters in girth and dozens of meters in length. It charged toward Sasuke’s Susano’o.

“This…!?” Sasuke’s eyes narrowed as he instinctively raised his arms to protect himself. He hadn’t expected Raijin to wield ninjutsu on such a scale.

Rumble…

The massive lightning dragon collided with Sasuke’s Susano’o, forcing the skeletal form back several meters and zapping him with lightning, leaving him feeling somewhat numb.

Huffhuff… I blocked it!” Sasuke gasped, having retreated a few meters with his Susano’o. He felt a flicker of fear; if not for the protection of Susano’o, he would have certainly been knocked unconscious and paralyzed by the intense lightning chakra.

However, before he could relax, another zap of lightning shot toward him from behind. “!!” He quickly turned around but wasn’t fast enough, causing him to be thrown off balance. He heard several cracking sounds that resembled bones breaking.

Bang!

“How… how is this possible!?” Sasuke exclaimed as he got back on his feet, noticing several cracks on his Susano’o.

Chirrrrrpppppp!

Before he could fully recover, the familiar sound of thousands of birds filled his ears. Raijin, with dazzling white lightning wrapped around his right hand, suddenly flashed toward Sasuke’s Susano’o.

Sasuke instinctively shouted, “Chidori!? How can you…?”
